I wasn't meaning to to be mean or anything I enjoy his content too but I do know I need to step back and calm down about cards after he talks about them. The dude is just pure excitement it gets to be too contagious.
This artwork really cracks me up for some reason. Looks like Spitebellows or Hedron Rovers distant cousin or something. Card is just plain weird and awkward for a rare. It's Temur, yet it doesn't help with enabling ferocious or formidable until you have combined power 8 already. I'm gonna pull so many of those I can already see it clear as day.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I don't like this one. Didn't expect a formidable creature with 0 power, I thought all of them would at least give you half the power you need to turn it on. I find it annoying that you need 8 power to get 8 power, seems like getting what you wanted when you don't need it anymore.
Maybe it's still playable just for the stats and first ability, but I'm not going to put my money on it.
This card is so perfect. It's an early to mid game play that completely walls almost all ground creatures in the format. It dodges all form of burn, which forces them to remove it with a hard removal spell, which isn't optimal on a 3 mana 0/6, and when they try to do so, you can sacrifice it to gain value nevertheless. If you're facing down a flying threat such as stormbreath dragon or ashcloud phoenix, this can kill it. It's formidable ability may seem win more at first, but in a grindy midrange Green Red deck, this ability can turn your mana elves into real threats. a couple of rattleclaw mystics and elvish mystics and suddenly this only takes one real creature to activate, and it becomes a very real threat. The versatility of being able to attack isn't irrelevant either, because wingmate roc is a thing. overall, a very good if not exciting card; it works well at all stages of the game and regardless of the board state. I wouldn't be surprised if this saw play in midrange decks such as naya or jeskai.

Ignore that ability and evaluate as if its a 0/6 wall that sacs to kill something. To me this just looks like yet another red rare wall - something WotC likes to slip in from time to time, but we've all forgotten about them because they are red walls.
From the Name and Number Crunch, there is only room for one more land, but they are not 100% sure on that so who knows.
Yeah, there's a lot of scenarios for a land cycle to work. Neither the 15 basics nor the number of artifacts are confirmed. The answer they gave at PAX about the lands in this set hinted at something exciting but was completely vague.
Alesha, Who Smiles at Death welcomes crater elemental with open arms. Promises to kill the elemental once a turn for WBR to keep the opponent's board clear, and possibly swing for 8 extra damage from the graveyard for five mana.
Come to think of it, it's also a possible sideboard utility creature to have for Jeskai heroic. If you have the creature on the field for 2R you can most likely redirect Crackling Doom to it, rather than losing your draw after just casting Ordeal of Thassa on your beater.
msun: Knives scoop ice cream.
Highroller: No they don't, knives don't scoop. Spoons scoop.
msun: Well, knives SHOULD scoop icecream.
Highroller: We have spoons that do it. Moreover, the shape of a knife that would scoop ice cream would make it horrible for performing the functions of a knife.
msun: Highroller, you bring up spoons as though they were the utensil used for scooping ice cream.
Might have a home when Battle for Zendikar comes out. Elemental tribal, perhaps?
When we started seeing elemental mythics this set and starting in FRF I thought it was the "seeds" for the next set. Now that we know it is Zendikar, I think we can guarantee that we'll see a lot of elementals in Zendikar (possibly enemy man-lands).
And I like this card. It blocks a bunch or stuff and can kill something pesky in a pinch. 5 damage would have been so much better though.
I'll just post what I posted on Magic Spoiler about this card, probably my longest rant yet:
Constructed playable. Comes down relatively early, walls every ground creature in the format (barring a monstrous Polukranos), and kills almost all flying threats in the format. This forces the opponent to use a hard removal spell on it (as it can't really be burned out well), and you can still sacrifice crater elemental for a 2 for 1, killing one of their small creatures and getting rid of their removal. This is, of course, ignoring the fact that your opponent had to remove your 0/6 creature instead of something that matters. The formidable ability will be most relevant in midrange GR(x) decks, where your mana elves and rattleclaw mystics will make up the bulk of that 8 power. Once you have the ability active, it can help finish off games that were otherwise even, as an 8/6 is a 3 turn clock. keep in mind that the ability has the potential to go off as early as turns 4 or 5.
If we get even further into the intricacies of this card, you'll see that it has even more applications. Its ability to attack even with 0 power is important for cards like brutal hordechief and wingmate roc, and the fact that it survives anger of the gods lets him become a lingering wall and later a threat against aggro decks. Aside from traditional GR(x) midrange, I think he works perfectly in a red based control build. Not only does he fit perfectly into the curve, right before outpost siege, but it also gives these decks protection against siege rhino and tasigur where before they were lacking.
I think this card has serious standard potential due to its low cost and high versatility. If you have other opinions, I'd love to hear them out!
I like the design of this card a lot. I'm actually surprised that they could impress me with formidable. It might not be the most powerful card, but it looks like fun.
I would LOVE a less efficient version of this for my cube. Like 5 to sacrifice with the same stats. Even without the Formidable trigger. Red blockers are <3
It seems like it will be a very useful card in standard, perhaps not maindeck in too many builds, though it seems to have the potential to anchor some control archetypes (R/U Counterburn?). I would certainly like to have at least 3 in the sideboard of my G/R devotion deck. A 0/6 wall that becomes a stoke the flames or an 8/6 creature is pretty incredible in the right situation, and G/R devo is definitely one of those right situations... I'm really digging it!
Like before, Jeskai control is probably best place for it. Running red to have anger in sideboard already seems good, and the mana isn't much harder than UW due to tri lands. Oh, and lets not forget roast which could be premium creature removal
I don't understand the concept of 'formidable'. Flavorwise...
Seems like kind of a dormant volcano type thing, until enough people get together, wear antlers made out of branches, and dance around until it gets angry.

WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.

Don't play much limited eh?
Seems like it will be very useful in limited at any point in the game. Blocks all day, removal on a stick - and win more late game.
No complaints here.

I meant for constructed. Even without the extra power it would be a strong combination of a removal spell and a wall in Limited.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

Also Shirei loves this.

what is formidable? the thing with the ability, or the board state?
Passive +8/+0 wouldn't require 3 mana to utilize. Being an ability for +8/+0 would let it stack.
