Loving this card. Don't know about impact on standard given that 4 is kinda high and you probably want to cast even later in order to hold up some means of protecting it from removal. That being said this card really does everything. Consider me intrigued!

I doubt it. It can only be protected if you have an instant and mana available to cast it, and it has no immediate impact on the board. It wants to be in Jeskai tempo or UW heroic style decks, but those decks generally want cheap creatures to pump up. If anything I think he would be good for those decks against control.
Aetherling could only be protected if you cast it later to have flicker mana up, and had no immediate impact on the board. Your point?
Aetherling:
Killed in 3 turns
Was basically unkillable
Was unblockable
This Card:
Kills in 5 turns
Needs a spell to tap one creature
Needs a spell for each time you want to protect it
This is a much worse finisher then aetherling was and is a worse finisher then elspeth, PLA or Ugin

K. When this card starts making top 8s don't be surprised.

I'm not saying it won't make top 8's. I'm saying it won't do it in a control deck.

Right, so it will do it in another deck that likes keeping mana up for instants and likes having lots of mana so it can play this and protect it in the same turn....
What a cool interaction. Play him, give him lifelink and first strike, he gets blocked, first strike damage gains you four, flicker him.

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?

Right, so it will do it in another deck that likes keeping mana up for instants and likes having lots of mana so it can play this and protect it in the same turn....
It will do it in a deck that is interested in a 4/4 for 4 with extra abilities. U/W control already has a great finisher in Elspeth it doesn't need a 4 mana 4/4.

Making wagers about Standard playability seems like an uphill battle. There are just too many factors at play. All I know is this card is going to make some casual players very happy. Anything past that and it's too soon to tell.

Fun fact. Elspeth only has 6 months left.
Speculating on what a card will do in a format that we know 40% of is pointless
I don't think this guy is a control finisher based on one factor; he doesn't avoid wrath effects. His full ability resolves before the stack clears - that's a problem for this card to be used as a control finisher. Other than that, I think the potential of this guy is amazing!
Technically not as good as my buddy AEtherling for control, but the key thing people forget is that we don't have an AEtherling in standard anymore. This guy can also net you life and pin down your opponents creatures as well, and comes down two turns earlier than AEthering. I could see some sort of Tempo/Control arising with this guy as a win condition. We need a lot of instants and sorcery spells though.
This card will not be played while Siege Rhino is in the format, as it just matches up so terribly against the Rhino.
Once Rhino goes away, it might get there as either a curvetopper in some form of tempo or aggro deck or as a player in a midrange deck.
Attack in, they declare block with Rhino. Wild Slash rhino, give Ojutai Exemplars first strike/lifelink. Rhino dies, gain 4 life. This guy is designed to be in spell-heavy decks and isn't meant to be played on it's own like Rhino. Or just play Valorous Stance like every white deck should be playing.
