Man Zurgo is disappointing. What's legendary about him? I like his cost, sure, but sheesh...couldn't he have an upside or something?
I am pretty sure his upside is his casting cost of 1, and being a 2/2 creature for 1, which would be important in the type of aggressive deck he would see play in.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
I guess Zurgo never hit the gym in this time line. Now he basically is a cowbell ringer on the side line of a sporting event. What a sad fate. Card is cool though.
So Zurgo is Will Ferrel?
Dromoka has a friend of mines favorite text on it. Between this and Dragonscale Sentinals I'm really thinking he's secretly designing cards for WoTC.
Zurgo is fine for aggressive red decks. A 2/2 for R with basically no drawback? Yeah I'm sure they're happy with him.
Gonna love how my turn 8 against control will be "resolve Dromoka, Thoughtseize you" when I want a late-game Thoughtseize to resolve instead of the other way around when you use a discard spell to resolve a threat. A very solid sideboard card.
I kinda wish he had a mana cost of 2 and a Dash of 1. It'd make him seem much more like a legendary Ironclaw Orc, and he'd be cooler for EDH. Probably OP for constructed, but eh, who cares about that?
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
I guess I would have liked him to have haste, or a dash cost of only R. Making him kind of Goblin Guide-ish, I suppose, with a drawback of not being able to block.
I play Boss Sligh, and it may be a personal preference, but I don't like Dash creatures in it at all. It may be great for slower, RDW styles, but in a deck where one plays combat tricks and hammerhand or dragon mantle with only 18 lands, you typically don't have mana to spend on dashing a creature. In any case, since he's legendary, you probably don't want 4 of him in a deck, which is a slight drawback as well.
He's completely playable, I was just hoping for a bit more.
I like a 2/2 as 1-drop for aggressive decks, but the legendary clause turns it somewhat off. As a Bellcaller, would have thought of some dragon summoning ability though.
2/2 for 1, with Dash. There's your upside.
I'm glad not every legend is printed with derpy EDH players in mind. Tournament Magic wants creatures too.
His cost is his upside, silly.
Why would they give red a 3 power one drop? If they were to do that with Zurgo, he'd have a huge drawback attached.
This Zurgo seems very good.

Expecting 2-4 Zurgos in RDW decks in the near future.

I mean, it's not like Zerg(o) Rush decks generally care all that much about what their creatures are, beyond a few (like Rabblemaster).
They want consistency, and being able to play 6 Scouts instead of 4 (with a slight drawback) makes for better consistency, no?
Oh and Zurgo is adorable.

Dromoka is a very nice card for EDH. Not overpowered at all but will open up some more controlling strategies for GW.
