I like Pokemon TCG Online's model. You buy physical cards and you get to use them online. Not MTGO though. Spent all your cash on your paper MTG collection? Spend it again on the online version. I don't mind if MTGO has this kind of model, but I do wish that this game is going to have a feature where Magic Origins packs have a code inside that you can give to someone else, or keep for yourself, that enables you to "buy" a virtual booster in the game for free. Same thing with precons, which allows you to "buy" that exact precon in the game for free.
I am with you. In addition, you can buy redemption tix for a Pokemon pack for like 50c each on ebay.
lol what is Wizards thinking? The Xbone's sales have been ABYSMAL compared to PS4 and Wii U. This must be a timed exclusive that other consoles will get eventually because Micro***** has to have "exclusives" that are only exclusive for a certain amount of time.
While PS4 is certainly far out ahead, Xbox One isn't behind Wii U at all...
Given last year's DotP wasn't on sony either, it's possible the studio that makes these games for WotC just doesn't feel they can do all console platforms at once. The first DotP came out about a year early on xbox, so the studio may just feel they are better at working with the xbox first. Microsoft is also likely helping to fund the development.
Whoops, I must have only looked at PS4 sales vs Xbone sales recently but not Wii U, I thought it was ahead because of amiibo and smash.
I'd rather pay $10 upfront and unlock the decks through the campaign. Paying for each of the premium cards in DOTP 2015 was a joke.
If this is anything like that, I'm avoiding it.
They've stated that all of the cards will be unlockable through playing the game. I think it's a safe bet that you'll be able to pay $10 (or other amounts) to unlock stuff early. Whether they stay pretty close to DotP's history or go harder into Hearthstone territory remains to be seen.
I see them going closer to hearthstone's financial model. I just hope we will see a full ruleset rather than the simplified dotp rules. They said it will have planeswalker cards, so that hints at less of a push towards simplified.
There are a few hands-on videos on YouTube now, mostly showing the Gideon/Kytheon stuff. They're remixing the UI some more, and the mouse support looks a little better than last year.
I'm so lost is this a digital, physical, or both expansion? Looking at the article metamorphosis, from the mothership it states in 2015 there will be the last core set assuming it's called m16, granted all that was stated was magic core set. So I believed this to be a digital game sense Microsoft has announced its games for this year and one of them is MTG: Origins. Additionally there is information supporting it would be physical as there is a pro tour, game day, and pre-release. Is WOTC scrapping core sets and DOTP to form a single unit? Which this is probably the case because I remember some people getting confused when DOTP was new and people assumed cards from their were going to be in the core set; this probably makes things cleaner and eliminates some confusion. On top of all that will this be a yearly product; if so wouldn't this just make it a pseudo core set?

This is a digital game, but it will follow current releases, starting with Magic Origins, this summer's core set.

Where was this confirmed? I'm guessing that you mean that three months after the release of Duel: Origins will be a Duels: Battle for Zendikar release...are we sure that's the case? If so, this will be the Hearthstone killer.

Just how much content is there? Do I spend $10 to $20 to unlock the game similar to Magic 2015, or is there much more to it than that. Lamb-Ferro: Down the road we are looking at having a plethor of avatars, playmats, or other skins for players to collect. The game is Magic Duels. Each update changes the name. Players will start this year with Magic Duels: Origins. When Battle for Zendikar comes out, players will be able to spend their coins on booster packs of that. Likewise with every new expansion released going forward there will be simultaneous expansion in Magic Duels. At any point in the next two years, when you download Magic Duels you'll get Magic Origins. The story chapter will change though, say next April when Sweat comes out.

They still have some ways to go before becoming the Hearthstone killer. But I'm sure Hearthstone being as successful as it is is the reason for many of the positive changes for Duels.

the paper set released this is called Magic Origins- it will be the last core set. The electronic game is called Magic Duels, and it will be released with the Magic Origins card pool (+ whatever else cards the add). As others said this will be expanded with each new set.
does this mean no promo cards redemption like previous years?
i wouldn't think so on an annual basis, since there is nothing you have to buy each year once you've brought the initial game. There could be other promotions I suppose.

I could see it as you have to make certain progress in the game to get to a screenshot for a coupon or something.
What makes you think it is $60? Past DotP games have all been $10-$15.
If it even costs anything to start, it won't be F2P (Free to Play) by definition.
Personally, F2P only creates feel-bad moments when it embraces P2W (Pay to Win). When done correctly, F2P games feel much more like charities that provide as much content/support as their players demand. If I'm playing a good game, I'll want to donate so that it can continue and improve as a game. Paying before I know whether it's a good game and whether I enjoy it seems silly in this day and age. (for digital media, at least)
The main thing I wonder about is their plans for how they add cards to the pool and for how long. If the game keep expanding perpetually and they match the set expansions 1:1 with paper, the game will be a sort Digital New Modern.

Looks like it will be released for PC, XB1, PS4 and iOS. No 360 or PS3 logos.

Thanks, I added that to the first post. Any idea how to change titles on this forum?
Edit: Gideon is looking pretty Theros-y in his younger form, including Heliod-style spear.
