I am curious to see the justification for calling the dragons Elder Dragons.
There is none. This is the biggest, unprecedented flavcr fail in recent time. This is downright idiotic, ignorant....I am at loss of words.
Elder Dragons were a RACE. Not OLD Dragons. You were BORN as Elder, not became one by being dragon and growing old...
But it was a matter of time when the cuts on Creative bear fruit.
I know this matters to you and a small but vocal minority, but I think it's a good move and right for this set. The Dominaria "canon" is a hodgepodge of nonsense and doesn't tie together in any obvious way, so I am ok with them moving away from it.

You control enchanted creature or planeswalker.
Now add a 3/5 flying deathtouch for 2.
...and vulnerability to creature removal, which every deck runs (in contrast to enchantment removal which is sideboard material at best).
I'd rather have the 4cc enchantment you offered.
Depends on the shell. If you have ways to protect the dragon, it is leagues better.
I'm still on the fence about it... but I could see it as a sideboard option against midrange/control in a UB shell.
Being able to steal a ashiok, Ugin, Elspeth, or Garruk (even if its only for one turn) seems super powerful and game-tempo changing.

I think the whole time travel element could be at play here. The dragons in fate reforged may not be the "same" as the dragons in Khans.
Okay, let me rephrase.
The Elder Dragons are a separate RACE, one from which the whole dragonkind was born millenia ago. Not just dragons that grew old.
Imagine it like elves and humans (with the exception that elves are not progenitors of humans). When you became extremely old human, you won't become elf.
The dragons were just Dragons in FRF era. They cannot become "elves".
Do you get it now?
They were a race on Dominaria. Tarkir is not Dominaria. Calm down and put on your big boy/girl pants.

I'd love the enchantment version too, but c'mon, new silumgar (elder silumgar) is still awesome. You're playing blue, I think you *might* be able to counter their removal. And he still has 5-toughness and can stand up to (and kill) a ton of relevant creatures. I like the idea of using him to steal an ultimate off of a built up planeswalker! He will obviously shine most in any EDH reanimator deck with blue, though. Absolutely fantastic reanimation target.
zombie sidisi is borderline insane. Sultai/Silumgar is getting some great stuff already!
Yeah, megamorph is silly. I guess it's to encourage us to morph the damn creatures. Stratus Dancer seems like it could have a shot at competitive play, as 3/2 flying is a relevant body.

Woah, there are elf dragons in this set? Awesome!!! Yeah, I get what you say about the dragons, but on the other hand, maybe something has happened to them to move them beyond the original definition of Dragon. They may have ascended somehow. We will know later hopefully what has transpired to grant them the Elder type.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
They were a race on Dominaria. Tarkir is not Dominaria.
I guess printing 5/5 green flying goblins and 1/1 white dragons would be fine because things work differently on world x?
There has never been "guidelines" regarding the creation of Elder Dragons, but there has been for Dragons in general, which the new Elder Dragons fall into perfectly. Calm down.
The Planar Dragons have more merit being Elder Dragons than the Tarkir Dragonlords. Age doesn't make you and Elder. You are born with that title. Biggest. Flavor. Fail. Ever... mehh
On the other hand, Demonic Tutor Sidisi is a monster
I count 26, unless you count the mana rocks in which case we probabl have 31. Category 1 references a singular common dragon that got moved up to uncommon. Don't get me wrong that's still more than double what FRF had and I love me some dragons so I'm pleased.

It was obvious bait, so I'm not exactly sore. I think people freaking out over these are kind of pathetic honestly.
Yeah, does anyone else feel the DTK Mythic Silumgar is probably much worse than the FRF Rare version? I feel like the FRF Rare Silumgar got (or will get) much better with the sheer number of dragons that will get printed in DTK!
Kind of silly that the set that Mythic Silumgar is in actually makes him comparatively worse than the other version! Oh well, still excited about this set! Looks fun so far!
It is not comparatively worse.
Rare silumgar is a nice token-eliminating creature. He blocks anything and dodges all removal, but at 6cmc you might be in a bit of trouble at that stage. No idea what other UB dragons are in Dragons of Tarkir, but I'm guessing you can ignore the dragon attack clause unless you're playing mutavault.
Mythic silumgar makes a strong impact with the exchange of no hexproof. 3/5 will pretty much ignore all burn, deathtouch stops any big beater, and he actually steals said big beater or your opponent's best permanent (planeswalker) so you can minus it or whatever.
If you are playing UB midrage/control, you're probably casting discard and counterspells and maybe black board wipes. When you've wore out your opponent this thing ruins their top decking or potentially saves you.
Well, that's the entire point--there will be U, B, and UB dragons in DTK, as preview articles hint. I think this makes Fate Reforged Silumgar generally more powerful than DTK Silumgar. I never said it was strictly better or more powerful.

Yeah, I misread that. I should probably stop before I get let down. I'm excited to see what they have in store though.
Dragonlord Silumgar is everything the Blue/Black Theros God should've been. I love that it says planeswalker! Dragon Tempest is awesome, too. I'm liking the start of this set so far.
Umm hate to burst people bubbles but the elder dragons are not just Dominaria they are most planes because the elder dragon wars was a multiversity war. You heard right. They seeded the next generation of dragons on multiple planes. Not just Dominaria. Dominia and Dominaria are 2 different things.
For people who don't care about the typing. Would it be acceptable for me to put the type God on Karona even though she was a false god? Of course not. It wouldn't make flavourful sense.
These elder dragons gave life to the dragons you see across the multiverse. Thats why they are called elder. And nico Bolas is over 25,000 years old, the thran empire fell at -4795AR. The Elder dragons were around then and the war was before then. So lets assume it takes more than a 1000 years if time is a factor to become elder. Also Izzet isn't elder and deserves it more than these dragons who were born from mana not flesh.

Let opponent up tick to ultimate
Steal planes walker, kill it, and ultimate it all at the same time
Win
Seems good.
Edit: ah wait, there is a moment before you get the planes walker.
Not as good.
Darn
Category 1: The common Dragon (NOTE: This got bumped up to uncommon during Development.)
