I already wrote elsewhere that in Theros, were the coloured sections were 37-38 cards, black got 6 rares and the other colours got 7. In DTK there are (we think) 43 cards per coloured section, so it would not be too crazy if there are an extra rare per colour.
We also have to remember that the rares doesn't have to balance out (again, as shown in Theros), so it could be that 1-4 of the missing rares are monocoloured. (If, for example, they need 3 of the remaining rares in the artifact section). This would be "confirmed" if we got a green rare that is not Surrak, or two more black rares.
I was thinking that maybe the basic arts reveal something they don't want us to know yet? Typing things up is a good way to think things through, and I don't really believe my own hypothesis anymore, but I'm gonna leave it here for your amusement:
I am suspecting there to be a colourless Ugin card that is instrumental to the communication of the story. It seems from Haven of the spirit Dragon that he does in fact, awake. So perhaps a Legendary Ugin card, or an "Ugin's Champion" card, or a colourless spell that is an amalgamation of All is Dust and Crux of Fate? The details doesn't matter, but I was thinking it could be something like this, for each basic land:
1-Dragon version.
2-Ex khans version. Similar to #1, but more focused on the demise of khans (ruins etc.)
3-Post Ugin's Awakening version. Presumably showing dragons-rebel battles, or if the time lapse is longer, the dragons-khans balance.
The details of 3 can be substituted for any "post 'important story event in DTK'-version".
Oh can I see maybe blue being short a rare. I posted a theory about taigam in my random predictions thread
Assuming Taigaim is the new 'Leader' of the Ojutai he can't have Rebond, but what if he had exploit? We know he defected in the previous timeline what if he does so here? this combines two cycles the legendary creature rare and the allied mechanic, which would help to crate space for an extra rare
It looks like we also got Tapestry of the Ages at #246 leaving #247 the correct place for Vial of Dragonfire. This means that Enemy Fetches can now be considered definitely out as there is no room for Arid Mesa, even with only 10 basics.
That leaves the question of why they have done so much to avoid spoiling any of the basics or confirming the number of basics. I suppose it is possible that there is 10 basics and a cycle of rare lands after Haven of the Spirit Dragon. I am guessing there is still something to the lands since both Khans and Fate Reforged had their basics spoiled the last Monday of spoiler weeks (two weeks before the PreRelease). I could be wrong, but it does seem suspicious.
Which means we're actually getting a large number of artifacts this set. Also Scion of ugin is our colorless card. Far less exciting than expected, but this leaves us an extra mythic, probably in black as someone mentioned earlier. There is no way there's only mana rocks for fixing in this block, right?
Right now it looks like fetches are confirmed out, unless they've done something incredibly weird and Vial of Dragonfire is not an artifact (WHY WON'T THEY SPOIL THAT CARD)
The enemy fetches are not confirmed out as vial of dragon fire could be colored idk why buy I can dream
it's true Renowned weaponsmith says card not artifact. It's a complete flavour fail if it's not an artifact though, but until it's %100 confirmed we're going to have people still arguing for it.
I just want to to have 100% certainty so i can put in big bold letters that the fetches are out.
As for the lands maybe it is 10 basics maybe instead of dragon's eye sanctuary it's sanctuary of the dragon's eye.
I really hate the way they've rolled out the spoilers this season.
I'm going to be annoyed if they're slow-rolling 15 basic (half art) lands.
yeah me too. im already pissed that they didnt tell us if we get rare lands untill now... i really hope for them that they at least show us something exciting..
It is a cool theory, but as crownclown indicated, they don't realy fit. If the names in the flavor texts would be the names of the cards, the names don't fit as only two come after "Haven" (and only one if you figure the land for Atarka would start with "Arashin", rather than "Shifting").
Also there is the possibility that vial of dragonfire is a Colored artifact meaning that it is eirlier number in the crunch or it could also maybe not even be in the set as they done weirder before.
EDIT: I meant to say that it could be a colored artifact

We currently have zero reason to assume colored artifacts, other than people hoping for fetchlands.

Still. Couldn't it be a colored card like to god weapons in Theros? Those were coloured artifacts and fell under the coloured section of the collector number.

Technically, yes, but there's just no reason at all to assume that based on this set. It made sense in a devotion-matters set based largely around colored gods, here not so much.
As cool as it would be. I seriously doubt we will see full arts here. They've always said they want to save it for something special, and I fell that filling a set full of dragons is quite special on it's own.
I think we will see full arts in Origins. With 10 different planes to see art from, it would be pretty sweet.
I agree it's incredibly unlikely. But until it's 100% confirmed we're going to get people hoping against hope that there's still room. Like I'm convinced fetches are out, but until I see card 247 or card 250 I can't lock it down. The last thing i want is to post Fetches are 100% out in the first post and have that be wrong.
That being said ere's the other nail in the coffin. If there are only ten basics and five fetches that means there are 6 lands to spoil. (they aren't going to have 11 basic lands)
There has been nothing in any set this block to suggest Another unique land. You have 2 lands that can help with mana fixing (one is more restrictive than the other but it's there) The average cost of a multi coloured card is probably 5 and the only reason it's that low is because of the commands. We haven't even seen any cards with off colour activations and I'm kinda surprised we haven't) Mana fixing isn't that needed in this limited environment so another land on top of the fetches (which do not help the mana fixing in this limited environment) seems unlikely.
If there are ten basics it's much more likely there's a cycle of 5 lands that go after evolving wilds which is much easier to do.
Like honestly at the this point it's 99.99999999% chance fetches are out I honestly wonder if they've left it open for so long because the wanted to troll/keep hope alive
I'm mostly bummed that now Scroll Rack isn't a possibility. I wasn't expecting enemy fetchlands to be in this set after they revealed Battle for Zendikar for the next block. It's a lock that they will be included there.

*prays that tomorrow we can finally confirm what the lands are*

Of course today they decide not to add stuff early
