Seems cool and it has a bunch of uses, a good insentive to play ledgendary creatures. I'd prefered if it had a on hit ability but then again the Swords of X and Y are OP.
I really hope the intention behind the flavor text was indeed homage being paid to A Song of Ice and Fire.
Play-wise, I run a Gahiji legends deck (think Captain Sisay plus red, less toolboxy and more midrangy), and I run Godo to tutor up the Dragon Throne of Tarkir, and I run Tenza, Godo's Maul as a second target if the Throne isn't available. I may replace Tenza with Hero's Blade, that can make my early game way more effective. Yes, I can just see the 5/4 Saffi Eriksdotter now.
With a throne and a dragonsteel sword now, I think it might be time to invest in some GoT alters.
Oh! This thing actually solves (or at least, helps solve) a big problem with my Kemba deck, which is that it's often hard to cast Kemba and get an equipment on her on turn three. This curves into Kemba perfectly!
COulld be. Zurgo kills Narest in the story. He would need this thing to actually beat her.
Depends on who's attacking. If Zurgo attacks, he has indestructible, so Narset can't kill him. If Narset attacks, she will kill Zurgo with first strike or with one of her tricks.
Doesn't it feel awfully Therosian, anyone? Poor card looks like a Theros block reject by all means. Instead, it's in a set where half the legendaries are dragons, which I'd assume are incapable at picking up a sword without a prompt "RAAHHHR" of defeat.
A Dragon would just jab the sword in his body and beat up people with the hilt.
I mean, duh

Also depends how much blood Zurgo has drank on that day. However, generally speaking Zurgo is unlikely to be ever blocking, and if an equipment is giving him vigilance it's probably boosting toughness.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
This is definitely a nice card, but the fact that it offers no bonuses other than an increase in power and toughness is a very poor decision by WotC, in my mind, and also a waste of a cool name for a card; I would much rather use trusty machete or any of the Mirran swords, which offer similar bonuses at much lower equip costs. I presume that its ridiculously high mana cost is to encourage players to equip it using its triggered ability, rather than its normal equip ability?

Besides the Jitte, which equipment would you ever run over the Mirran swords? This card is very solid for an uncommon, and free equip abilities should never be underestimated, especially when the equip is done as a triggered ability.
Even though it probably won't find a home in D&T (since Batterskull, Jitte, and SoFaI are so much better), it would be so much fun to do:
Opponent: Declares attack with Tarmogoyf or other big fattie
Me: Tap Æther Vial, retain priority, pay 1W, tap Stoneforge Mystic, let Mystic resolve and put Hero's Blade into play, let AEther Vial resolve, put Thalia, Guardian of Thraben into play, Blade trigger goes onto the stack, resolves and attaches to Thalia, declare blocker with your surprise 5/3 first striker, and go on the offensive next turn.
The Equip: 4 cost is kinda steep though... solid for an uncommon, but steep for what other things can do.
Oh, man. This in EDH...all my yes. "Hey, guys. After turn 2, just assume my commander will be bigger. What's that? You don't want more commander damage? OH WELL!"
This art bothers me. An apparent "hero's blade" yet it's just sitting on a table in a hideous tool shed, instead of being exalted on display or in a fancy room for a hero.
Other than that, Khemba approves.

Will definitely get a foil one since it's just uncommon, and test it out with GoST!

And then there are more fringe, funny combos... Dark Depths + Thespian's Stage + Hero's Blade = BIG THING FUN TIME.
