A young man rushed up to a blind old monk, candles floating about the eccentric fellow as he meditated.
"Master, I did it. I bent the air, and tamed the snow!"
The old man, without even flinching, dropped to his feet,
The candles landing with care on the dustless floor.
"Have you now?" He asked the student
Who found himself unable to conceal his pride.
"Yes. It was just like you taught me. It was miraculous."
"That is where you are wrong, child.
There are no miracles. Only paths walked
And roads disembarked. And as promised,"
The old man gestured as he opened the door,
his motions so fluid not a pebble on the ground was disturbed.
"Do you mean it, Master?!" But the monk
Had already left, leading the smirking student.
The library was an impressive collection, but
in one of the far corners, sat a scroll, unprotected.
The two figures approached, and the Master waved his hand.
The air glistened for a moment, and the room suddenly felt...
Lighter. "What did you do?" But the old monk only smiled.
"Open it, my son. You've become a part of the lore,
The great lineage of the Jeskai."
The young man lunged at the scroll, but stopped, and turned.
"Wait, you told me my performance would be recorded.
How can it possibly already be written in this?"
Strolling behind the student as his eyes danced between
The old man and the scroll, the Master placed his hand on
the confused youth's shoulder.
"Chiiang. The wind records and the world remembers.
But ink? Ink and paper fades and crumbles. No no no,
This is merely the door to your next path.
Now take the first step."
Chiiang shook with anticipation as he grasped the parchment.
Pulling it aside, he flinched in anticipation, then looked down.
"Master, it's just a diagram. And these motions, these are the moves
We teach our children within the first week of their training.
Is this a joke??"
"Ah, yes. Funny how our paths seem to overlap as we age.
Never forget where you've been, what you've done.
Only there will you find true strength. "
"But Master-" Chiiang spun around, confused.
But only a wisp of air remained, dispersed a moment later.
Chiiang stood before a wooded training dummy,
With a torn parchment target nailed to it's head.
"All right. Remember...where I've been..."
He stiffened his arms, grabbing an imagined broom.
"What I've done..."
He brought his arms out, and raised a leg,
Balancing himself atop the cliffs of his mind.
"Who am I..."
He swung am arm upwards, just as he had done
Earlier today.
"And the direction I must walk...!"
He thrust his hand straight ahead, the image
Of the Scroll of the Masters concrete in his mind.
A blast of energy ripped straight through the dummy,
Splinters flying like leaves in the wind,
as the stone stairwell behind it crumpled to pieces.
The student smiled.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
What's the interaction of the scroll with storm cards?
Nothing special. Storm copies are not cast, so they don't trigger the Scroll. Of course, the storm spell itself (as well as any noncreature spells cast to increase the storm count) DO trigger it.
I really like the barricade. It has cool art, and effect isn't too shabby either. A white Quickling, more or less. Helps with manifest and lets you reuse EtB-Abilites. Definitely gonna use it in some casual decks at least.
The Wall enters in mine Wall.defender.casual.deck very well ( with wall of omens )
The construct lucks fun with that U enchat that lets you buy 3 cards if you sac it
The insect is really good in limited
And the Tome makes a really fun EDH card
Scroll is pretty good with rebound spells, I think. Shu Yun might want it to turn every removal/bounce/counter into a megabuff for the double-striking monk. Decks that run Cast Through Time should probably consider it for the lulz.
Is it me, or does Ugin seem like more and more of a pretentious tool the more flavor text we get? It's like ego is the one area where he isn't Inverse-Bolas.
The scroll is a lot better than people are giving it credit for. The comparison I've heard the most is runechanter's pike, and honestly, this is a lot better. First, it gets counters on all non-creature spells, instead of just instants and sorceries. The pike is better for graveyard shenanigans, but the biggest differences here are more important than abuse. First, is toughness. Toughness isn't as important as power, but a token with a pike dies to EVERYTHING. Which leads me to the reason why I think this is much better than the pike is its speed. You can use this in response to removal. You can attack with a horde of tokens (I wonder if there is some prowess like creature that is capable of creating lots of tokens?), and buff the creature that get's through. THAT is way better than first strike and graveyard shenanigans. This is a great commander card, and I think it will see standard play.

In general its way WORSE than the equipment, simply for the fact that you have to cast it BEFORE you cast all your stuff and it becomes a very crap topdeck.
Thats what happens way more often, you want to unload spells early when they matter and use the equipment power boost to win later, especially with small flyers (especially all the 1/1 spirits back in the days where a strong force to win with the big boost from the pike).
In terms of Limited, the scroll will just be a small boost, its not great, playable at least ; if you build your deck with enough spells, especially the spells that produce creatures (manifest and such) , it can be pushed, provide some meaningfull boost, but its still not really good , as you still need mana to use it (which is its biggest downside, if it would simply tap for free in terms of mana, or multiple times with a manacost in the same turn, that would all at least help).
As it stands, the scroll is pretty much crap , build around me kind of crap, but still pretty much crap.
You have to use mana to equip the pike too. This just requires one more. The fact that it does it at instant speed is what makes it good. Sure it's a terrible topdeck, but that doesn't make it a bad card.
The biggest seller is being able to attack with one more creature than the opponent has blockers and target the guy that gets through. Pike can't do that.
