Cunning Strike has a yummy Electrolyze-like feel to it. I like it just because of that.
But all 4 are pretty decent. Nice little set of multicoloured spells.
I like these. Simplistic sure. Yet they are quiet fun. I actually love each one of these as I look at them and go "Huh. That is actually really cool for a common."
Love the flavor of Grim Contest. Whoever is the toughest will survive the ordeal of being eaten/having someone try to cut out from your insides. Either a heroic victory for the guy, or a nice meal for the croc.
The others though are all decent for limited, especially considering they are commons. I actually foresee Harsh Sustenance being a game winner for those decks that run those colors, especially if you can draft multiples.
Harsh Sustenance is an instant speed Essence Harvest that wants you to go wide instead of big. It's funny, I look at that card and go "Meh, not bad.." then look at Siege Rhino..
All very solid in limited. Disowned ancestor is sick with the fight one. The shock cantrip is good reach it at least kills a facedown creature that's manifested or morphed. The one that drains is insane as is the +2/+1 and untap when it comes to limited pumping your whole team 2 power will likely end the game or at least be a very real combat trick as it untaps the creatures and if the board gets gummed up and draw go the BW one is going to deal 6+ damage/huge lifeswing and likely game ending. Quite a neat 'cycle'. Last picks? If you think these are last picks in limited you clearly haven't looked at the likes of guild feud and such all of these are limited playable with ease.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Presumably this is the cycle that Ethereal Ambush is a part of. Not bad. They all have a clan they're centered in flavorwise, but most of them play pretty well with both clans they can fit into. Both Sultai and Abzan creatures have big butts, making this unique fight effect excellent for them. Trumpet Blast fit into both Mardu's raiders and Jeskai's tricks, this pumped blast is more of the same. It costs more, but the fact that it untaps could be relevant, considering you can alpha strike and still have blockers back if your opponent survives (Mardu), or swing in and then surprise them with (pumped) blockers out of nowhere next turn (Jeskai). The UR one would be a bit less overcosted if you could distribute up the damage to your needs, rather than a forced 2 and 2, but both Temur and Jeskai like playing spells, it cantrips, and at least it's instant speed, so you can hold up mana for tricks and still get a creature kill, some burn, and a card for your troubles. And the WB one could be super fun in Sealed, king of clogged board states. Abzan likes to bog down and build up its defenses, Mardu loves to swarm the board with creatures, and both clans could get a lot of mileage out of that card. Freaking black/white damage spells...
If any of these are going to see constructed play, it's probably Grim Contest, just as a fight effect that might have niche use - it might let Hornet Nest potentially kill something in a fight, in addition to cracking for tokens. Might make a casual Sultai Walls deck with Phenax that uses it as removal.
These seem fun, as commons go. Won't hate pulling any of them - save maybe the burn spell (all of my UR stuff has gone into a half-serious Jeskai build), these all have casual decks they could find a place in for me.

"The true measure of all heroes is not what they achieve, but who they inspire." —Triumph of Gerrard
A board pump that's also a great trick, a conditional removal/burn spell, a fight card that works off of toughness (great design), and a powerful 2 for 1 that even adds damage on top. Given that the average toughness of a creature in the format is 2, the 3 removal spells are all pretty well positioned, and the board-wide trick isn't anything to scoff at. Good selection of solid commons for the respective colour pairs, though I don't imagine any of these would see Standard play. Grim Contest does have a chance to make a big splash in Commander and other casual formats, since its effect is super unique and reasonably well priced.

Great cards (limited, of course). Can't underestimate the smackdown the Izzet one will give (kill a morph/manifest, hit them, AND draw? :D); War Flare untapping & buffing everything for just 4 seems like blowout city, Grim Contest is just great and the W/B one...more situational, clearly, but will wreck in any token or even warrior build.

Quote from Skullum »
that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
Thank god Harsh Sustenance doesn't say "EACH" opponent. Ghave is stupid enough as it is, now it can just one-shot ONE player.

Really like the last one. "I slap your creature, slap you, and slap the top of my deck and draw a card'.

Edit: You can also point it at a creature.

And Urut Barzeel is apparently an ancestor of Gvar Barzeel, the Abzan krumar commander in present Tarkir.

Yeah. At least you won't accidentally buff your opp's creatures.
Harsh Sustenance is an auto-include in my Teysa €DH deck.
