Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, you may pay . If you do, target creature gains double strike until end of turn.

I can dig it; it's probably better than Numot in my EDH cube, and I've been looking for an excuse to kick him out. He's very voltron-oriented, which gives him a very different deck than Narset.(Which is good because I'd like to keep generals of the same color in different archetypes so every color combo has options) He's not my favorite, but he's not fighting for a particularly hard slot. I'd like to see what he can do.
Thinking about it, he actually has a few other benefits: He supports the RU instants/sorceries deck well, even if he's not a particularly good general for it.(And he can go in those decks without white because I use special hybrid rules.) He can also be played as just 2 colors if you don't draft the manabase to support full Jeskai. I like the idea; we'll see what he can do.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I dont think he's good enough for standard? Could be a tool for U/W heroic because of the cheap protection instants. Time will tell. But Rabblemaster, Mantis Rider, and the new Monastery Mentor are pretty stiff competition for ordinary Jeskai decks.
I was starting to get worried about the amount of gratuitously powerful cards they've revealed so far. Good to see some cards that are a little slower and less format warping.
Edit: thought of inclusion in U/W, which may want a couple copies
Can the Khans of this cycle be played in Edh or is the main ability dead? Unsure how that interaction works since the deck would be mono blue?
As is talked about in the video, the color identity of any given card counts all mana symbols on the card. Mana cost and text box. Our tempestuous friend here is a UWR commander not mono-U.
I really like this guy for standard. He comes down and is a must kill for your opponent; if they let him live he could represent 8 points of damage, or more. the jeskai decks and the herioc decks may find him worth consideration. if you cast him on curve and he dies, then your opponent spends a turn killing your creature (and potentially allowing you to cast another one), and if he lives, he wreaks utter havoc. That's a lot of damage we're talking about, 8 if you have any noncreature spell. Of course, he is competing with rabblemaster, mantis rider, and that bonkers new mythic, but I think he has a chance, especially in UW heroic.

Like 8 years ago when I was getting into the format they'd just be illegal to use as generals. I believe it was within 6 months of the release of rise of the eldrazi that they changed and made generals defined by their color identity and not their color. I remember this because Sheldon's hint at the change was something to the effect of "I'll be switching out Tajuru Preserver for Brooding Saurian in my green decks" with Tajuru being an answer to Emrakul, the AEons Torn who was getting banned, and Saurian being an answer to Memnarch who the general color identity rules change would now allow as a general, and both came in the same rules update.
Anyway, I feel like an old windbag spouting inane stories about "the good ol' days." The point of the story is that you can build his deck with any of the three colors.

If he lives, the game will often be over after his attack. Titan's Strength + Gods Willing is usually going to be lethal for the decks that run him (16 damage). He basically turns protection spells into strong pump spells and pump spells into lethal.
Wait.....So Maro has said that he loves the Jeskai, and he's the head designer....when going in lists, Abzan seems to be forgotten half the time and about to be skipped...
I think we've cracked the code on why Jeskai is getting a crapton of broken cards and we've yet to see any sort of Abzan mythic or even a good Abzan card in FRF.
Yes! I love him!
Since Narset was pretty busted power-level wise I didn't event bother thinking up a EDH for her, but this guy here seems like he could be a strong, but fun Jeskai commander. I also imagine the other recently spoiled Jeskai cards (Grand Master, Monastery Mentor) fitting perfectly in that kind of deck.
I think I'll need to get a foil of this.

3 mana 3/2 with prowess that could often give him doublestrike isn't bad. I won't be surprised if this is the weakest Khan in FRF though.
Looks like a great commander.

They count as tricolor in EDH. R&D designed them specifically for this interaction.
