Well seeing as Tom Lapile was involved with this set and his; and I'll use a metric ton of sarcasm here; Genius gave us the wonderful CawBlade meta that everyone loved so much, you know the 800$ entry to standard. He loves him some mirror matches apparently. I still wonder how he got back into the magic side when he was sent over to D&D at WotC about 3-5 years ago.
This card is a pretty busted limited card and should win you plenty of games and I'll predict pre-order price around 20-30 for him and he will settle around 40-50 with foils being around 100.

Funny how Jeskai Ascendancy is ridiculous with this guy and that it is at the same kinda like a meta-reference to what will happen with Fate Reforged.
Anyway busted card is busted.
What really pushes this over the top is the tokens having having prowess too. I mean seriously? The chance that all your tokens attack as 2/2s or even 3/3s and more is pretty high and decks who rely on a few big creatures on blocking duty or don't even have blockers will just be overrun so fast it's not even funny. And the reverse is also true since this guy and his boys are pretty scary to attack into when you opponent has open mana.
Kinda scared of the impact this card will have in Modern to be honest. Young Pyromancer is already crazy but this dude beasts Young Pezzy in a fight every time and there is nothing stopping you from playing them in a Jeskai deck together.
Seriously this freakin card is ridiculous and bonkers. Im so glad I don't play standard anymore, cuz I'd be SUPER pissed right now. The meta was already starting to get run over with abzan and Jeskai... now look at this crap. Nothing with change lol
I honestly love the card for edh sake, feel sorry for those standard players lol
Can someone explain why cards like this (OP at Mythic) are considered cash grabs?
Don't most packs get open up by drafters?
So why is it relevant? Honestly curious about the economics.
It's because before Mythic Rarity was a thing...this card would have been simply another Rare card in the set. But with Mythic being a thing we now have Wizards essentially splitting Rare power level cards into two slots for mostly arbitrary reasons. Lots of Mythic Rare cards are HORRIBLE in Limited or are extremely weak in that format. Ugin's Nexus and The Chain Veil are basically useless in Limited. Maze's End is another card that's Mythic and also horrible in Limited. Lotus Cobra likely wasn't causing tables to be flipped over in rage. There are tons of weak Mythics in Limited and tons of bomb Rares and even Common/Uncommon cards.
Enter the Infinite and Jin-Gitaxias aren't doing anything in Limited. But those are Mythics because they are major story based cards, have potential for powerful Eternal combos and interactions, and are better off being Mythic so that they don't appear more often in Limited as useless cards. In some ways Wizards wants terrible cards that are storyline based or clearly built for Eternal formats at Mythic so as not to pollute Limited and waste a Rare slot that a Standard staple card could occupy.
If Pack Rat is a Rare then this card doesn't need to be Mythic to balance out Sealed and Draft. Monastery Mentor looks like it should be great in Standard/Block and probably good in Eternal formats. But it could have been a Rare just as easily. And this card looks to be a Standard killer and likely a card that will get tested in Eternal formats for a few months if not years looking for decks that can use it or be built around it. Wizards knows this and rather than making the card a Rare and therefore more often opened they made it a Mythic meaning people need to crack more packs to get them on the secondary markets or in their collections.
Thanks man. Well-said.
I hate cards like these: Rares becoming Mythics on steroids.
Cult of the Succubi Eating Kitten and Brotherhood of Hamsters - Zombie One/Hulking One - Brotherhood of Hamsters disapproves of Damage on the Stack amputation, the corruption of Mythics, and the "Major changes to Extended" in July 2010. Christ. We couldn't have one format without a dominant Delver deck?
Between this, Soulfire Grand Master, Lightform and Valorous Stance, this is looking like it could be the whitest set since Jethro Tull played in Madison Square Garden.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
Fetchlands and new bomb mythics. I didn't get into KTKx3 draft that much actually but I think with the new set and increased card pool things will be even better.
This guy might cost 3 but he's obviously insane and will see play in modern. Pick up your Hallowed Fountain now, UR Delver has a white splash coming. This will replace Young Pyromancer.
It's nice but not broken. Which is good but my only gripe is why does he have prowess? I'd rather he didn't have prowess, was a rare and gave monks +0/+1. I'd be much happier then.
I was kinda hoping green would get some token creation at mythic but I guess it's whites turn now.
EDIT: For those wondering why it's not broken, cause it's easy to kill 1/1s on mass.
Well the tokens don't necessarily stay 1/1s. You have noticed they have prowess too, right?
Well I think while this is a ridiculous card, it's not at Young Pyro's level. Young Pyro's color coincides with direct damage, so there's the plain formula. Being at white, and being at 3cmc means it's gonna be a little tougher than its red counterpart.
That said, it's a standard cash grab, and not so much a modern card. I feel mentor is alot like Brimaz. The hype train will make it stay expensive, even after it rotates.
As for its rarity, I think it's been mentioned by many already. They gotta increase the probability of mythic I feel (if they want to keep the mythic status). Maybe by 20%-30% more.
That said, it's quite disgusting that white gets 2 extremely playable mythics and blue gets a junk. Thou shall not trespass that mythical junk.
first of all it lands on turn 3 ok that i know in modern that this will die to bolt so it will not be all that great in eternal formats. Also i could see it in a delver deck but it will never be that great.
This is mainly a standard bomb in my book.

It is hard to judge the powerlevel of this card when actually using it in a deck. In a vacuum it looks beyond crazy. Many people are mentioning the "costs 3" or "dies to all of the removal" downsides for Modern / Legacy but honestly if a creature is good enough and does enough for your deck it gets played regardless of how "vulnerable" it is. This has the potential to be a very dominant card.
Finally, something for Boggart Birth Rite combo. (Cast a copy to get a 'yard copy back, repeat.) (B) for a 1/1 with prowess that I can auto-pump every turn? Yes please.
EDIT: For those wondering why it's not broken, cause it's easy to kill 1/1s on mass.
Well the tokens don't necessarily stay 1/1s. You have noticed they have prowess too, right?
Sweet jesus, but to avoid anger of gods you'd have to cast three spells right? Also he won't make too big of a wave in modern cause everyone has some way of clearing a field.
That is true. I think every non-Jeskai player is happy that Brave the Elements is not legal anymore.
Also not every deck has a way of clearing the field in Modern. That's why Young Pyromancer is such a big threat in the Delver decks. And if you sweep the field, people shouldn't forget that that was not a big play but just a one-for-one trade since all the tokens came for free anyway.
It will be interesting to see how this cards will pan out because on paper its bonkers and that synergy with Jeskai Ascendancy...
The idea I had in my head was infinite 1/1s haha. If you play the retraction helix combo, you get infinite triggers. I'm not sure if this card would be better than akroan crusader, since he's one mana, but this guy is better in situations where you aren't going off with your combo.
I'll give the Mentor this, though. The art is much nicer to look at as opposed to that horrid creepy ugly little red-headed flame child on young pyromancer. Ive always hated how such a powerful card has some of the ugliest artwork in the game. At the very least the Mentor looks much nicer.

Yes, it's the finisher. If you cast a lot of spells you get a huge army of 1/1s.
