- the lack of new art and new flavor. There were 35 cards in MM1 that had arts not from their original releases (promo art, online art..), 24 of them brand new. Here we got friggin' FIVE new arts. Also, I noticed ONE new flavor text (Blood Ogre) altogether.
I just feel bad for the 9000 people that have booked places at the three GPs, including the expense of accommodation and travel, on the promise that this would be as good (or even better) than MM1. Which it quite patently isn't.
What a disappointment for them. A load of people I know are going to GP Utrecht and I seriously considered joining them. Delighted I didn't waste my money now.
If you were planning on going to the Grand Prix with the expectation that your cards would pay for your trip somehow, that's absolutely ridiculous. It only costs you $100 to travel, stay, and pay for the GP? Or were you expecting multiple foil goyfs to pay for it?
It's far too early to say whether or not the actual sealed/draft experience is good or not, but presumably going to a Grand Prix is about playing Magic, seeing people, and seeing new places.
No, it only costs me 73,30, excluding food and drink. Ah, the benefits of living closeby to the venue.
Anyway, I'll admit that during the task of putting up the final spoilers, I felt a bit sick, realizing just how bad the pulls I can expect at GP Utrecht to be...but then I realized "Sod it, this is the biggest event I ever will compete in" and I'll just have fun.

MM2015 looks like a big disappointment to me. I'm sure WOTC will sell all of it because there are too many people out there willing to gamble for the chase cards. However, I would really like to see it fall on it's face as they jacked up the card price AND put a lot of crap commons and uncommons in the packs.
I considered to sell some cards for store credit/buy box but I decided to not. I just do not feel comfortable supporting this product because I was expecting top notch quality on every level when asking this much money. I am NOT saying the monetary value isnt here, but overall, the economy/design choices do not make me happy This product really makes me feel as a sheep with money to wotc. And it makes me mad when they tease us with phyrexian mana and not bother releasing probe, or pointless backing off from a card like serum visions even more so, when theros was just around the corner and they opted to not print such cards in sets that are MADE to make these cards work. pfffff
Also, with so many fatties, do you guys think super ramp will be a thing for limited? There's really only Rampant Growth and Everflowing Chalice for super ramp. I'm really surprised Unburial Rites, Through the Breach, or any other cheat into play strategies aren't in MM2 with all the big creatures. What do you guys think?
Someone asked MaRo why Serum Visions wasn't in. His reply: No Scry in MM2015. Fair enough, but why put Daybreak Coronet in with no other aura's, not a single hexproof creature, and no cards at all that care about aura's whatsoever. The Huge creatures, no ramp/cheat cards is the same idea. I mean, you can draft a load of cathodions and a couple of Bloodthrone vampires... But that's about it, no Growth Spasm, No Awakening Zone, no real ramp cards aside from the eldrazi Drones and a couple of Myr. Weird.
Speaking of myr, I thought for sure they would include copper myr and his fellow cycle to help with mana fixing and ramp. The lack of pestermite and deceiver exarch to go along with splinter twin is also a head scratcher.
From the perspective of reprinting modern staples, it seems like a failure.
What about the limited play? Is there anything to salvage from these packs?
It seems to be reprinting most if not all the top end of the price side for modern within its set boundaries. So I don't think it failed as much as people want. I am disappointed in that they could and probably should of put a couple more commons and uncommons worth money in there. Though it does seem to have a few that were holding some value and possibly could of shot up.
As for limited play nobody can tell yet. There are some things I miss from previous sets in this draft so I will enjoy that aspect of it. We shall see how this all turns out. I am going to expect a fun limited environment. Not sure if it will compare to MM1 but falling short of what could possibly be the greatest draft environment ever is not all that bad.
Yep. You pretty much got it. Though I would say you can and maybe should be aware of speculations, just don't trust them. Further, learn the difference between the wild, unfounded speculation and theoretical speculation. If a person has substantive evidence for their claim or a working theory for it, evaluate the claim on that. And for rule one, I would add, never ever buy from WotC if you are building a deck. It will cost you a bloody fortune and by the time you get it together, the card prices will fall and you will lose what you've put into it. I'm not saying MTG should be looked at strictly as an investment but rather it simply is an investment.

I'm still doing GP Vegas and am very much looking forward to it. Main event be damned, I'm looking forward to all the side events, artists, feature matches, meeting other players, playing a lot of games with lots of people, and oh, that's right, spending a four day weekend in Vegas. Yeah, the set isn't what I'd like it to be, but the GP should still be lots of fun.
What's the potential for a box to gain value in the future? I've got one preordered at msrp, and I'm pretty convinced I'm not opening it. Almost all sealed product goes up in value after going out of print, but do we know how "limited" this print run really is? Conspiracy still sits around $90 a box on eBay. Will we see MM2015 creep toward $300, or live at $250?
I'm doing GP Vegas, too. Don't discount the cool mat, promo griselbrand, and the fun factor. Plus I'm going with a big group of friends. Worst case, we get lame cards, scrub out, then VEGAS BABY.
NP. If you are really interested in utilizing the Graft mechanic though I would just go out and buy graft the graft cards. I think you could nearly buy playsets of every card with the graft mechanic on them for what two packs of MM are gonna cost you. Its a fun mechanic and might work well with evolve but I don't see it becoming truly competitive.

Was someone earlier complaining that this set has proliferate, but no good proliferate targets? Because there are. Bloodthirst, Graft, Wither, and charge counters make it relevant, especially with Tezzeret's Gambit, since it's Phyrexian mana. And there's some nifty equipment in here too, with white creatures that love that sort of thing. Imagine getting a foil Cranial Plating! I'm willing to try drafting this set every two weeks or so, and see what I think of it.

I think the bigger issue is that there are a number of keyword interactions that are horribly underrepresented (or absent entirely) making the draft format extremely limited in effectiveness outside of one or two archetypes. So not only is it a mediocre card list, it's a poor draft list too.
The Daybreak Coronet issue is both terrible and hilarious.
I guess you can add White to your BG deck so you can sac the (Arrested) creature with the Coronet... yay?
It's also beyond ridiculous that they have both Splinter Twin and Kiki Jiki,
but neither Pestermite nor Deceiver Exarch.

I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Just went onto amazon to see if the sellers there have change their asking prices now that the set has spoiled. A lot of them have dropped in price to about 265 dollars.
However,
There are people still asking for over 300 dollars for a box (Highest one is at $405). What one seller said made me nearly crack a rib laughing, "This is a special preorder price. I expect it to climb sharply after release."

I wouldn't even pay $200 for this set. Sometimes I forget there is only 24 boosters and that makes me want to buy it even less. With 24 boosters, it's actually very possible that you might open mostly junk, with maybe a few playable cards. Do these sellers actually think the prices will go up? I would have laughed too if I heard that response.

That looks awful. Could you imagine spending $300 and getting that? There is the two splinter twins, the leyline and that's it?
Just used the simulator for individual packs. 9 out of ten times I got less than $5 in cards and the one that was over $5 had a creakwood liege and a vines of vastwood, both of which are going to drop their prices like a diseased rat.

Ran the simulator once - Got a foil Ulamog. Didn't bother looking at the rest, I figure that's the best it's going to get. We'll see though, I didn't cancel my preorders, I still have 2 boxes coming my way. I guess we'll find out if I'll regret that decision.
Thanks. Upon closer inspection, Overwhelming Stampede has also a new text. Still, that is mere 3 cards out of the whole set
