Magic players would have to complain the most out of any groups i've seen. Expect way too much from every set. If the expected value from packs exceeded or came too close to pack prices it would just drive prices up even further.
Lucky many don't collect sports cards, where you can spend $1000+ on a pack of 5-10 cards that could be worth hardly anything or a LOT.

I don't think we expected too much in this set. In fact we expected what we thought were a given. Uncommons and commons like Aven Mindcensor, Serum Visions, Gitaxian Probe, and Qasali Pridemage were just a few of those ones people expected. I am pretty sure that wasn't asking a whole lot to see some commons and uncommons, and certain rares, to be reprinted for once in 5+ years.
Compared to MM1 this is quite lackluster. Had the packs been kept at $7 then things wouldn't be as bad, but unfortunately the EV of a box is mostly being supported by only the mythics the half the rares in the set. The least we could have gotten were some rares like in MM1 which were in need of a reprint and not necessarily played in Modern, but nope we get stuff they picked out of their local 50 cent rare folder.
I mean come on, we got Daybreak Coronet and yet you can't even play it in a draft reliably. Limited indeed.
I need a good conspiracy theory this morning, what's happening to SCG?
Wizards has declared war on the speculators for their preordering non-sense. And this is their first strike in slew of some freaky deaky mind game, that will eventually break their very souls.
They saw how speculations jacked prices up on the first sealed MM products and now they are getting back at them.
I mean, come on, the price went up and the chances to break even dropped even lower. So either Wizards is taking us on one hell of a ride with fake info that will not match what is inside the packs (not likely unless Wizards has hired Skeletor to do advertising/marketing) or they are over reacting with how fast MM1 was burned through and at how high sealed product jumped in price.
I see this as WOTC giving the finger to everyone in the Magic Community. I mean to the buyers, sellers, players, wholesellers and speculators. I mean everyone.
You gotta think, this set cost little to nothing to make. There were what 4 new arts? Everything else required no design team, no art commissions nothing except new packaging. If they sold 5% of what they printed to stores or whole sellers they probably made their money back. They just want their money, F anyone else trying to enjoy or sell this product.
Yes, unlike MM1 why aren't these packs all full of $10+ dollar rares like Knight of the Reliquary, Gifts Ungiven, Bridge from Below, Life from the Loam, Lotus Bloom, Ethersworn Canonist, Grand Arbiter Augustin, Woodfall Primus, Reveillark, City of Brass, Demigod of Revenge, Extirpate, Angel's Grace, Stonehewer Giant, Scion of Oona, Oona herself, the Kamigawa dragons, Tombstalker, Jhoira, Kataki, Divinity of Pride, Squee, and Figure of Destiny.
You joke, but at $7 a pack and the fact that KotR Gifts, Life, Reveillark, Extirpate, City of Brass, Stonehewer Giant and some others are all worth $3 to $7 currently, that is not bad returns relatively speaking. Whereas opening Ant Queen or Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder(cards worth half a dollar) from a $10 pack will make some people rage.
I never saw MM1 for sale at anywhere near $7 a pack. MSRP is nice but MM1's drastic under-printing ruined any chance the boosters had of being s "good investment"

Hey, heey! Don't insult Commander Players! We don't want this crap either! (Well, except maybe Cryptic Command and Karn Liberated, but since this set sucks I guess I won't be able to afford either). There are a few Commander playables in here, but like half of them were recently reprinted and big EDH playables like Crucible of Worlds that have needed reprinting for YEARS are absent so it sucks even for us.
MM1 and Conspiracy were much closer to a Commander Master's set than MM2 is.
I see that a lot of the money cards in this set have lost close to half their value (Bob being at 50, Clique at 45, Hierarch at 40, the Eldrazis etc...)
I assume Modern Masters had something to do about that so that's nice!

I imagine a bunch of people unloaded the copies they had been sitting on the minute they were confirmed. However, I worry that since this set is so bad the supply from opened packs won't be as big as expected and everyone will just buy up all of those cards and drive their prices back to where they were before, or even higher.

I literally had a dream that this happened the night after full spoiler.

To me the insulting part isn't the lack of money cards. There is a problem I would say when a significant numbers of rares are dirt cheap already, certainly. The thing about Modern Masters 1 is that many of the cards absolutely had inflated prices at the time, and Modern Masters drove said prices down and hard.
The real insult in the set is the significant number of cards that have been reprinted within the last year, many of which were reprinted in Standard. This has nothing to do with the value of the cards-there are plenty of Modern playables which are cheap that would be fine for the set, and could use a reprint for no other reason than to get copies into people's hand. Which is the point of Modern Masters. To compare, there is only a single common in Modern Masters which saw numerous reprints (Festering Goblin), and it was not at its time legal in standard. There are a plethora of commons/uncommons in MM15 that have just been reprinted. Not only is this egregious and unnecessary, but it is also insulting and counter to what is expected in Modern Masters products-printing cards that are difficult to reprint elsewhere and specifically in Standard.
The set is an insult to drafters, it's an insult to people who want to get into Modern from nearly all standpoints, and it's an insult to consumers of the product. There is no good reason to have 20-30 reprints of cards that have been reprinted within the last year (Many of which are in the last couple core sets) when you have the entire Modern pool to pull from. It wreaks of lazy development and a complete lack of thought.
Pretty easy to see Tom lapille is why this blows. I have never liked him as a lead.
Wizards was trying to Hard to avoid a chronicles situation, Make a limited format and make modern cheaper. You cant have all three, and due to demand and the current popularity and multiple formats of the game, the Chronicles issue is not going to happen again. You can thank EDH for that.
Having a bunch of core set limited staples make me sick. Some are interesting and ok but they are bland, there is hardly any depth or uniqueness to this like MM1. Id like to see MM3 sooner than later with a New lead and cutting out as much Coreset fodder as possible. If the limited format was interesting I could get over the other stuff. Hopefully the drafts are fun, Im still going to do them just for the chance to test the format.
Not really, I've bought my x24 MM2 boxes at 179euro shipping included. I have an offer by now 233 each, and I'm really considering it. 1300 and doesn't even touch one box? I think I'll accept, but don't know if I'm doing right.
Anyways, finally I'm gonna buy my tarmogoyf, clique, command etc plus a bunch of boxes of BfZ if fetches inside.
I'd have really liked to sell the boxes for 265 each or so and print 2.000 euro in just one month without effort (that money would have helped me to cover all my magic expenditures for a while, next RPTQ even a foreing GP) but I'm still happy with 1,3k
That weird sensation when spoiler season is over, but you still feel like there's something you need to check every 15 minutes.
Check the prices on Serum Visions and Inquisition of Kozilek and see if you can guess how much it's going to go up.

I think the original Daybreak Coronet art is some of the worst in the game, and it's only made worse by the hideous futureshifted frame. Anything is an improvement. /opinions
Also, it's so painfully obvious that it was cut from Theros block last minute and shoved in here. One of the only good rares in the set was likely an afterthought.

This set is horrible in limited, been drafting this on cockatrice and metalcraft/affinity is absolutely broken. This is no surprise, as the number of cards dedicated to these mechanics is just too high. Very unfun set to draft when compared to MM1, which was very enjoyable, diverse and much more balanced.
Ok, so I walked into my LGS today to buy a couple of packs and some odd end cards I was interested in, and during the time I asked the person behind the counter what they thought of MM2015. To be honest I wanted to hear the opinion of a store employee/owner who would be selling the merchandise.
He looked at me for a second and with a straight face said. "It looks like a great and powerful set." Confused by him saying this I inquired if he had seen the full spoiler to which he has and even said that paying 10 dollars a pack for this set was a very good deal and that most of the rares great picks for this MM and that he expected the set to sell fast.
I quickly realized WTC agents had already came by the place and lobotomized everyone, or that the person behind the counter was a lunatic, either way I quickly left before I found out.
I see that a lot of the money cards in this set have lost close to half their value (Bob being at 50, Clique at 45, Hierarch at 40, the Eldrazis etc...)

Well, I only compared Bob and Hierarch, but if you compare the tcg mid now to the tcg mid from the beginning of April Bob is down closer 10% and Hierarch is down closer to 30%. That is a pretty decent measure of the impact of the spoiler, and is about right for their rarities in MM2015. I suspect you will see even more reduction in price around June 1st as by then the vast majority of the product will have been opened.
