Which just goes back to what I said before, prices of "high value" cards are not a reflection of availability (Tarmagoyfs are everywhere online) or even demand, its an artificial price set by the cartel of card sellers with starcitygames at the helm. They will buy out supply to create an artificial scarcity and set the price to what they think they can get for it. Wizards would have to print the damn thing into the ground to get around it (although they're in bed with SCG so its not like they're trying to get around their practices anyway).
Yep, if this was a supply/demand thing, prices would be far lower, but the big boys have a vested interest in controlling supply, and so they do, which drives prices upwards. This is what I don't get... why do people think I'm a jerk for investing and speculating on MTG? If there were a thousand dudes like me doing this, spending money on the secondary market, we're increasing competition for available cards to buy, thus driving up prices of cards you pull from packs and making pack cracking more profitable, and on the flipside, we are increasing competition on the selling side down the road, thus driving prices down. The only real reason you should be hating on us is if you are one of the big boys and you're feeling margin compression as a result of increased competition.

Market prices generally reflect scarcity and demand and speculation about them. SCG won't lower prices because of speculation, so long as Wizards doesn't produce any large print runs of Tarmogofy the cards are becoming more valuable over time. Demand is rising much faster than the supply. For SCG high prices reflect a certainty Tarmogoyf will keep selling well into the forseeable future.

I get the feeling that Tarmogoyf will see a big-run reprint within the next 12-18 months if MM15 doesn't bring the price down to around $100 or so, which it almost certainly won't do.
How low do you think Tarmogoyf will go down in price once this set releases? Anyone think it will go down to the $100 mark?.. I'm really hopeful..
When Modern Masters was coming before, June 2013, I remember reading an article where the President of Starcitygames flat-out said they will not be lowing the prices simply because a limited print-run set.

I really don't think SCG is monitoring ebay 24/7 ready to buy up all the Tarmogoyfs that drop below $150 or whatever. That said, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Goyfs drop by one-third (which is about what they did with MM1?) bringing them close to $100, maybe slightly higher for the original artwork. If that happens, look for Liliana of the Veil to take over as the most expensive modern card here in a few months.

I really doubt that Tarmogoyf will even come close to dropping below $150 for more than a day. I agree with the original post a while back that the price is just perceived value. Starcity will not lower there prices and no one else will lower there prices because pretty uch everyone else bases their prices of scg. I expect prices of all cards in MM15 to remain high and I think the set in general is a waste. Wizards has passed up another opportunity to make the format easier to enter and play. Without a conspiracy like setfor modern its staples will remian high.
Looks like two more weeks till previews start, based on Gavin's article today!
We have known that for a while.
Because Channel Fireball Vegas Event is May 23-25 than card spoilers will have to be done by May 15th. Spoilers normally last 2 weeks so the spoilers will start on May 4th.

Exactly, April 22 is the day. I don't think anybody is going to register because of a side event playmat, but it may fill up some slots of the side events.

I'm more interested in the card that will allegedly be spoiled by said playmat. Please be Mox Opal lol.

I don't want to believe it (incomplete Zenith cycle, sooo many garbage rares), but part of me sees this is exactly the kind of junk Duel Decks and the last MM shoved down our throats (Ally subtheme, a bunch a janky walkers no one asked for, good reprints like Cursecatcher mixed in with bad Merfolk like Laquaitus, the Praetor cycle at mythic)...I really hope this isn't the list, but it's really, really believable in terms of draft styling.

That list looks like it could be legit. I noticed Oona'a Prowler going down to uncommon. There were quite a few cards last time that also went down in rarity.

Thanks for the link. My initial response is that this is believable. Isn't Bribery a vintage card though? 8th, Masques, and judge program?
Damnation as a rare, that's harsh on a $50 card with all those mediocre mythics.

It's a Commander card, so not that surprising. Truthfully, I'm kinda surprised it hasn't seen any play in Modern.
And yeah, lots of rarity changes, Memory Plunder, Dauntless Escort to uncommon, Simian Spirit Guide to common.
It's just...if this is real...you can't possibly justify a $10 MSRP. Almost 2/3 of the rares here can be found in a 50 cent bin. That's ridiculous.
This is fake. Emrakul is number 3 and the only cards that can come before it are All is Dust (not on the list), Artisan of Kozilek, and Eldrazi Conscription (not on the list).
Not too bad a list, but I doubt it's legit, since with the spoilers we've already had, you'd think they'd include the Urzatron lands, and Lightning Bolt, a highly iconic card they missed in MM1, isn't on the list. Still, I wouldn't really dislike it if it was really, since most of the cards I wanted reprinted are on there,

Where did they say this? Their twitter said April 22 for the reveal of the side event playmat.
-MM in Chiba will be in Japanese packs. They will be wrapped in your traditional boosters like we've currently.
-Utrecht (probably) and Las Vegas will be in cardboard wrap, as Wizards explore new territories with regards to using recyclable stuff #savetheEarth
-Magic in Japan in huge. Akihabara alone has more than 10 "shops" within a kilometer radius.
-However Magic also has to contend with numerous other card games in Japan, like your Yugiohs and Pokemons, etc.
-Japanese magic players are mostly tournament-savvy players. Meaning they tend to be spikes, and prefer competitive cards.
-Because there're so many shops (density), coupled with other card games, prices tend to be competitive in nature as well.
-Definitely not a coincidence when Chiba is possibly the fastest sellout tourney in the history of Magic.
