I really hope that Mother of Runes art doesn't go to waste in a duel deck forever. It would make a gorgeous foil.
The artwork is better than the old Mother of Runes but it is still terrible. I don't get why people like nielsens stuff so much. Did you see the full art basics she did? Disgusting. This isn't any better.

Your deck is a disaster. It has no plan, no focus, no clear strategy, and half the cards hate each other.
I love her art, except I did not like the full art basics. Other than that, she is an exceptional artist IMO and the Mother of Runes is gorgeous. Can't wait to get a few.
John Avon is my favorite land artist though. His Explore is phenomenal too. I hate having to choose between the new one and his.
John Avon's full art lands are excellent. I just happen to like Nielsen's painterly style. It harkens back to the old days of Magic art when it was less reliant on computer generated imagery.
So you get two planeswalkers and a bunch of crap worth nothing. It's not surprising that wizards did this with a duel deck however it would be nice if it had other selling points for more value. Kiroa's deck is blue could have reprinted remand, cryptic command, or anything worth more then a total crap rare that they keep reprinting that no one wants. Simic Sky Swallower and Inkwell Leviathan again! What is this crap!? Stop reprinting the same low value, low use, cards that no one wants.
It's... what... $25 tops? And probably under $20 in a couple of months?
What did you expect? Moxen?

My favorite flavor text: Time of Heroes
Feel free to tell me yours!
I'm not a fan of her full art basics too. Let's put it this way. Not every master will make every piece a homerun. Don't feel compelled to say it's really good when it isn't.
Her mom art is acceptable. But the color scheme feels like it's a blue mage of sorts.
I actually thought that Kiora would find the best Serpents/Leviathans from the multiverse. I would have expected some huge fishes like Dandân for example. Bummer.

Yeah...suuure....printing a card that is currently worth more than the MSRP. And Remand was in a year ago.
The cards you listed are played in some casual decks and/or EDH. Casual players are the main focus group of Wizards, not the relative handful of Constructed tourney sharks. I know the "pros" like to think of themselves as the most important Magic players, but that is simply not true.
Seriously, you people who expect them being used for reprinting Modern and/or Legacy staples... THIS. IS. NOT. THEIR. PURPOSE. THEY. ARE. NOT. FOR. YOU.
Deal with it, and get over it, the sooner the better.
At least one would not need to gnaw through tens of posts of hate every DD is released.

I like the list: I need an Elspeth, a Kiora, a Mother of Runes, I don't own any Explores, I have only 1 Accumulated Knowledge and can make good uses of the Inkwell Leviathan. But I have 4 Remands and 4 Serum Visions, so I don't need those... I don't see the problem. The rest may be crap, but honestly, what do you expect?
As a casual player I feel frustrate that they not even try to make a good deck, MTG have a lot of good cards to add on theses decks and add only 1 card of each card is really far away from the reality.
Why don't make a good deck with a sideboard too? Don't need to be Modern/Standard competitive lol.
The cards have been loaded into Gatherer. I was kind of hoping that there was some additional flavor text that gave some insight into the storyline behind the DD, but nothing. Although Coiling Oracle has new flavor text from Vorel of the Hull Clade.

They are built to play against each other. Also sideboards aren't really casual. I know casual means different things to different people but sideboards are more for tournaments.
In a way Kiora's flavor text does sort of hint at what she's doing on Theros and how she managed to earn Thassa's ire. Seems like a good reflection of her explorative and careless personality. I wonder if Explore's flavor text is suggesting too that we're looking at a sea monster in its art and not at another Whelming Wave washing over land? That art is still weird to me unless it really is land coming up out of the ocean. Which I still wish was used on Spreading Seas damn it.

It *is* probably a land coming up from ocean. It is *not* a sea monster, especially you-know-who. The flavor text, IMO, just highlights the fact that Kiora is a planeswalker.

The cool of having some 'sideboard' cards is that you can at least change something in your deck, I bought 'Profit Vs Power' decks and some card were totally unplayable like Dark Betrayal and I was again a Blue deck.
I removed it, but I had nothing to put in it, only if I removed of the other deck.
Anyone else's LGS having a lil tournament using these dual decks tomorrow?
I'm not too impressed with the decks honestly...but I am looking forward to playing them tomorrow evening at my LGS :).
For $25 I get the dual deck (need the new mother of runes art and elspeth for my commander deck anyhow) and at least 1 booster pack...more depending on how well I do at the event.
Should be fun!

I just looked at those deck lists and it appears the opposing deck that came with it is a black deck? If its anything like the dual decks they are built to play against each other. That is a different product line though.
Nothing is stopping you from tuning them, and on some if not all they purposely leave room to tune them. For players to learn and feel better that they personally picked out something better. The the intent it for people to pick up these products and not have to worry about having or buying any other magic card and just play two decks against each other and be on even grounds for that matchup.
I'd give the entire product a 6/10. Modifying Kiora and playing the decks against other duel decks might be a good idea. Just make sure you don't play the decks against one another. Eslpeth will win about 75% of the time.
Yeah - this review was spot on.
We played about 10 games tonight - swapping the decks after 5 games. The win rate was 9 out of 10. Unless the Elspeth player just gets a terrible hand - Kiora simply cannot deal with the white weenie horde. Even casting Whelming Wave and Aetherize, you simply don't ever get ahead with the Sea Monsters - and no one was lucky enough to get Kiora out and ever stabilize enough to ever use her ultimate. She basically gets mowed down in the next swing the Elspeth player makes. The Kiora deck would have been loads better with a smaller island walker of some sort (Bull Hippo or Zodiac Horse would have been cute) and spreading seas. Accumulated Knowledge is cute and all but it just felt like you were digging for stuff that wasn't there in the deck anyway.
We couldn't even get past a best of 5 before wanting to play something else. On the other hand we still play Garruk vs Liliana, Sorin vs Tibalt and Ajani vs Bolas often.
It's not about high value or power, it's about constant interaction between the decks. This ones were almost as bad as Divine vs Demonic, you knew very early who was gonna win but the game dragged on. A product, specially a casual product, is not successful if people playing it want to concede.

The Island isn't great, but the Plains and Forest are both gorgeous. Those are what I happen to need.

As a bit of an oddity, though it is "quicksilver" it actually isn't mercury. They made some distinction of that for some reason.
