Is it just me or do both the red / blacker walkers need to start with 1 more loyalty. Also the red's ultimate seems a little high like 8 or nine would have been better. At least the increase is +2.
The ultimate on this guy is absolutely irrelevant in the first place, you're building loyalty to spam his -2. People need to be able to differentiate when the ultimate is a part of a card's reasonable effects (see: Freyalise, Garruk1), or when the ultimate is "we want a flavorful way to win if you have nothing better to do and no pressure for 4+ turns" (see: Teferi, this guy). The ultimate is perfectly priced for flat-out winning the game. Anything less would be ridiculous.
As for the card itself, he seems fun. Not as easy to set up or as fun as Feldon, but Feldon's been really ridiculous in testing.
It's funny, the previous Commander decks had precisely zero new cards for old characters, and people were fine with that. But when WotC throws Vorthoses a bone, everyone and their uncle starts *****ing about how they should have had more nostalgic cards, and how much of a travesty it is that WotC didn't make a card for their favorite character.
Yeah. I am completely OK with that. I would prefer Leshrac over Ob Nixilis, but I am glad for Freyalise.
People are just people and you cannot change their nature even with an axe. As Dr. Jeebus said, if they started putting banknotes into boosters, there would be people complaining how they are folded.
And then there are just some ignorants and hypocrites who pick up the pieces of lore that supports their wishes and ignore the rest that does not fit them.
Why isn't this Jaya? Because it is virtually impossible to make reasonable Jaya card after 4 versions of Chandra Nalaar, who was bloody heck DESIGNED to be "Jaya" in the brave new world. Even the name is similar.
Why isn't this Slobad? Because Slobad was not even a natural walker, got his spark just for some fleeting minutes, and when he was not even "alive", but a ghost in a machine. If we stay true to the lore (and they are trying hard, although Titania should be a */* as she is a maro-sorcerer), can you imagine that state represented on a card?
Why isn't this Jeska? Well, I dunno, and I would very much like to see Jeska, Thrice-Touched by Infinity written on a card. But there is some reason why not. Maybe because everybody and their uncle were begging for goblin walker? Maybe because she has three legendary cards already? Maybe they are saving her for next time?
I am quite fine with Chandra PW cards, knowing Jaya is (or before the reveal of them doing old walkers for this product was) out of question. I am wholly fine with Daretti when I know Slobad is almost impossible to transform to a card. And I like it for the similarities with Slobad even more.

First of all, Magic is a great game and we all love it! We've devoted a significant amount of time and money toward this game. Nostalgia doesn't have to be specific so technically, Daretti is nostalgic because he reminds us of Slobad. The difference is that this new character can continue on as the only goblin Planeswalker whose story isn't super depressing. Wizards can easily reprint him but in an updated version. I totally called the synergy between Feldon and the red planeswalker!!! I personally love this card and think it's very different from Chandra; also it plays really well with Spine of Ish Sah!!!!
Finally, this does allow for the possibility of Serra, but only if Ob Nix is the one that we "didn't know by name." If Ob Nix is "from Magic's Past?" (Not that long ago), then that definitely sets the stage for Nahiri.
Awesome card, mechanically. I'd play it in my Jaya deck except that I find goblins a little too goofy for it. But I think I will run one in my Godo deck.
@Caranthir: To add to what you said, likely the real reason this isn't Jaya or Jeska or whoever else, is simple: the designers decided they wanted to build a red artifact-minded planeswalker-commander and corresponding deck to help a mono-red archetype that didn't have much support before. Obviously, this sounds like neither Jaya or Jeska, so printing either of them with Daretti's abilities would have been a fail. So Daretti is to Slobad as Chandra is to Jaya.
Because Slobad wasn't really a planeswalker, he just borrowed a spark for a few seconds.
It was longer than a few seconds, and even that is more legitimate than "Hey here's a Mercadian Goblin 'Walker that likes artifacts for no apparent reason".

Personally I believe Slobad is better served as a "standard" legendary creature instead of a planeswalker, because let's face it he was a planeswalker for a shorter duration than 99.5% of all magic duels last.
Also everyone who is upset about this not being a nostalgic throwback, like Jaya: This is the most concentrated nostalgia we ever got in a product rivaled only by time spiral, and this time we got a bunch of oldwalkers. I honestly cannot understand how anyone blames wizards for not putting even more old characters into this.
while i do agree on the shortest duration ever, he did more in this little time than most of the others pws wandering around.
slobad has a terribly sad story, with an amazing yet bitter end. it was epic. he deserved to be a pw card.

is there any confirmation on him being mercadian? looks like from palliano to me :/

Not really, it was very very short.. Slobad was barely a walker. In addition, walkers need to be characters that can travel the planes. Slobad cannot. He fails as a planeswalker.
Sorry guys, but he probably won't be (and shouldn't be) getting a pw card.

it was longer than a few seconds. he was able to talk to karn and refused to be his apprentice. And i don´t know about not being able to planeswalk. little green dude brought everybody that has died back to life. everybody. i don´t think power level is a concern here.
The problem I have with this character is not Daretti himself, is that he could be printed in EVERY new Standard set. Old characters can not, and they need this kind of product to show up. So in my opinion it's a waste of space and fan service to print a new walker or legend when they could print a classic from the past. How many of you would prefer a new Gerrard, for example, instead of Jazal? Yawgmoth? Jeska? Hurkyl? The Lithomancancer (is it spelled right?)? Leshrac? I know, new players won't know them, but it's an awesome way to instigate them to look up for the older lore. I'm betting that they will be printed, eventually, but still, missed your chance Wizards.
Also, how bad is Freyalise? I almost cried when I saw how underwhelming one of the biggest characters in Magic's lore is.

If I remember correctly he never left the plane. A walker that never leaves fails as a walker.
I don't undertstand the irrational love for Slobad. I'm more surprised this many people read the Mirrodin novels.
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
I have to say, I'm really quite disappointed in Daretti as a character. They have the chance to introduce a new planeswalker from any plane they want, of any race they want, and what do we get? A goblin from the cut-rate Ravnica knockoff. They couldn't even be bothered to make him female.

Not sure how the Goblin's gender is relevant in the least...

When people innovate it still isn't enough for some people. Reminds me of a quote in a fantasy novel regarding dragons and greed where the main character mentions that if he gave him one gold bar that the dragon would demand to know why he didn't bring two, etc. etc.
It's not Jaya... who cares, no one will be happy. 1/10 simply because it's not Jaya.
This.
I don't even care about this trash. I was so excited for the red planeswalker and I'm so unbelievably disappointed that it wasn't Jeska/Jaya. I will NEVER run this card out of principle. I don't even want to buy the deck anymore, but unfortunately, there's too much value in it to ignore. I might put it in my toaster out of respect.
I am truly at a loss for words.
The only thing that I can hope for is Serra, but I have a strong feeling I will once again be let down.
We already got our 3 old walkers. Of course it's not jaya/slobad. It was either someone we know but not by name or a new guy from a place we've been before, and seeing as how Nahiri fits perfectly for the white deck it was always going to obviously be closer to the second than the first. I've got the same thing to say about your hopes for Serra, unfortunately, but you're pretty much just disappointing yourself.
I like this card too. Definitely picking up the red deck unless the other colors do something crazy that I want to try instead. The red deck looks fun though.
Instead, it's just another artifact commander.
It's an artifact deck. What else were you expecting?
Well, at least he isn't bad, which you can't say about most of the red walkers.

I have divined your fate. You shall find your nemesis, a catastrophic clash. Devastation, misery for all, the unleashing of horrible curses and ferocious powers. Ruin, such ruin that I dream each night of blessed peace, assured that the universe is in balance once more...
I always love red artificer support, so that is a big plus I dont really like his high artificer gettup. It worked on the blue dude from fiora, and I see how it should be funny juxtaposed here, but it isnt..

Red looks super pushed right now
at 4 cmc, i really don't see it being that strong in legacy/modern, however could be interesting in legacy/modern burn, affinity.
It entirely depends on if you can get draw cards with the +2 even if you have no hand.

You can play jaya Ballard planeswalker. Her new name is Chandra. The same character for all rational purposes.
