I have to say, I'm really quite disappointed in Daretti as a character. They have the chance to introduce a new planeswalker from any plane they want, of any race they want, and what do we get? A goblin from the cut-rate Ravnica knockoff. They couldn't even be bothered to make him female.
Not sure how the Goblin's gender is relevant in the least...
There are currently about twice as many male planeswalkers as there are females. If they couldn't make Deretti an interesting race or from an interesting plane, they could have at least made a planeswalker from the less represented gender.
As it is, Deretti has no really notable qualities as a character.
It's not Jaya... who cares, no one will be happy. 1/10 simply because it's not Jaya.
This.
I don't even care about this trash. I was so excited for the red planeswalker and I'm so unbelievably disappointed that it wasn't Jeska/Jaya. I will NEVER run this card out of principle. I don't even want to buy the deck anymore, but unfortunately, there's too much value in it to ignore. I might put it in my toaster out of respect.
I am truly at a loss for words.
The only thing that I can hope for is Serra, but I have a strong feeling I will once again be let down.
These planeswalkers were designed bottom-up in order to make sure that they weren't degenerate or broken as commanders. We're lucky we got as many nostalgic throwbacks as we did.
That's fine and great and all that jazz.
It does not satiate my hatred of this planeswalker. If he becomes popular in my meta, I will make sure to build a deck that specializes in hating him off the table. I have several ideas ready for him.
My hate is the burning rage that should have been a different planeswalker.

He has no legs.
(I agree on the gender topic, but after reading his story I appreciate him more)
Because Slobad was a planeswalker for all of a minute.
Seriously, y'all need to get over Slobad.
EDIT: Also, because Daretti isn't dead and still has his spark, WotC can reuse him, satisfying all those players who want a goblin planeswalker.
Um...no? Yea, Daretti isn't dead, so they could print his ass anytime, where as this is the perfect time to print Slobad, who many people have wanted for a long time.
Dont get me wrong, Deretti is awesome, but no Slobad is so bad.

Because Slobad wasn't really a planeswalker, he just borrowed a spark for a few seconds.
It was longer than a few seconds, and even that is more legitimate than "Hey here's a Mercadian Goblin 'Walker that likes artifacts for no apparent reason".
Not really, it was very very short.. Slobad was barely a walker. In addition, walkers need to be characters that can travel the planes. Slobad cannot. He fails as a planeswalker.
Sorry guys, but he probably won't be (and shouldn't be) getting a pw card.
it was longer than a few seconds. he was able to talk to karn and refused to be his apprentice. And i don´t know about not being able to planeswalk. little green dude brought everybody that has died back to life. everybody. i don´t think power level is a concern here.
If I remember correctly he never left the plane. A walker that never leaves fails as a walker.
I don't undertstand the irrational love for Slobad. I'm more surprised this many people read the Mirrodin novels.
its not irrational love.
its more of expecting a nod to some awesome piece of lore.
me, myself, i find slobads lore one of the most interesting/tragic/epic on mtgs history.

Eh, Tezzeret already did the "limbs replaced with artifice" gag. Seeing it again isn't terribly compelling.
I've never seen a bigger bunch of cry babies wonderful people in my life. (I'll refrain from using such dismissive language in the future)
Seriously, you were given a half goblin, half robot planeswalker, and you are complaining. He is a cool interesting New character. Why is it so hard to accept that not every planeswalker in this set would be an oldwalker?

Slobad would be extremely hard to represent properly in his mayfly-lived walker form, given the circumstances.
Why do people claiming they know his story keep ignoring that ?

That's not true. He's the first goblin walker to see print and he's the first physically disabled walker to see print (he's basically in a wheelchair).
Wow, people, really? Past Commander sets had ONLY new characters and it was fine. Now they throw us some bones with older characters like Freyalise, Feldon, Teferi walker (FINALLY) and others...and you're complaining. Give the finger, they will take the hand indeed ._.
This.
It's not like there isn't already a Jaya card (and 4 Chandras) to use.
Hell, the existing Jaya can be your commander too if you are that concerned by the lore.
OMGOMGOMG I didn't get precisely, exactly what I wanted so now WotC is trash and rage1!!1one!111
Pathetic. What you need to remember is that while Time Spiral was cool, it pissed off a lot of the casual crowd (for which this product is also meant partially) because not only was it way too complex, they also didn't get most of the historical references. Same will happen with Slobad. Nobody knows him, nobody cares!
Anyhow, the best I can come up with myself is a game in the top 8 of a PTQ back during Urza block in which we were starting game 3 with time already expired, so the tiebreaker rule was that whoever had more life after 3 turns would win. And I lost to... healing salve.
Slobad actively gave up his spark. He didn't want to be a planeswalker. He wanted his friends back and sacrificed near omnipotent power to return them to him. Reprinting him as a planeswalker instead of a creature would be like a slap in his face.
Is that what Slobad would have wanted, I ask you? Is that how you would treat one of your favourite characters from MtG?
I don't really care/know about old characters and "the lore" one bit, but even I can tell they don' goofed by not making this card Slobad. But hey, they can print serra angel every year for years, making players wonder who or what that character is; Boom we get the Serra walker in a precon. Old players and new ones rejoice in finally getting Serra...

Most Iconic Red Planeswalker... How could they skip out on that? This kinda kills some of the hype for the set for me, mainly because I was excited for the possibility of Jaya being in since Teferi was revealed.
On Topic: If you could actually get to the ultimate, then it will get pretty nuts.

Haha, point taken, though the storyline was already a big slap in his face. Dies immediately afterwards to randoms, Glissa eventually becomes Glissa, the Traitor... Dunno if he made the right choice >.<
I did think why not go with the original after seeing Slobad 2.0, but I think I'm ok with this being sort of alternate reality Slobad. The moment where he gets the planeswalker spark and it makes his body whole again would have made for a very powerful scene though...
The problem I have with this character is not Daretti himself, is that he could be printed in EVERY new Standard set. Old characters can not, and they need this kind of product to show up. So in my opinion it's a waste of space and fan service to print a new walker or legend when they could print a classic from the past. How many of you would prefer a new Gerrard, for example, instead of Jazal? Yawgmoth? Jeska? Hurkyl? The Lithomancancer (is it spelled right?)? Leshrac? I know, new players won't know them, but it's an awesome way to instigate them to look up for the older lore. I'm betting that they will be printed, eventually, but still, missed your chance Wizards.
Also, how bad is Freyalise? I almost cried when I saw how underwhelming one of the biggest characters in Magic's lore is.
Jazal is a bad example considering he's Ajani's DEAD brother.
Seriously, you were given a half goblin, half robot planeswalker, and you are complaining.
For real. He's awesome. He's a goblin pope for crying out loud, it seems silly to dislike him because he's not Jaya or a female or something silly like that.
Also, since I still hold hope that Slobad will be the 3rd "Commander" in the red deck (over Tuktuk who is a terrible choice for a commander), I wonder if they originally intended it to be Slobad but didn't want him in the deck as both a creature and a PW, so they printed a new goblin for the PW role. Not that I mind either way, I think this dude is pretty cool. I don't know if I'll use him as a commander over Feldon, but I'll definitely run him in the deck. This is just based on the fact that Slobad seems to fit the theme of the deck very well, from what we've seen.
Finally a deck that can use ichor welspring & the one that fetches a basic both ways can have a decj with full potential. I can only imagine Slobad is an auto include in such a deck.

Freyalise and Ob Nix kinda object to "isn't dead" and "still has their spark," respectively.
