Until it gets finally confirmed a part of my brain is still finding ways to fit Serra in, due in part to all the Angel cards flocking out of the spoilers and the fact that it may take a long time for a chance for mono-colored Commander Planeswalkers to come by again.
Going by "Forged in Stone" alone, Serra too has dealings with Stone. Heck, her Sanctum is largely made out of stone IIRC. Then there's also the OPALs that were tied to her appearance back in the Urza Cycle (Opal Guardian, Opal Titan, Opal Archangel, Opal Avenger, Opal Champion, Soul Sculptor are all situated in her realm.)
So yeah, counting the days till I start wallowing.
I'm right there with you on holding out hope! The fact that the major creature type of the white deck is angel, having the lithomancer is such a flavor fail imo. Black has demons and zombies, which backs up Ob Nixilis and Gisa perfectly. Cat bro and the probable Kor don't really flow as well sadly, again imo.
I have to apologize, because I'm not sure about this, but what angels have been "flocking out of the spoilers"? there have been 3-4 white cards spoiled and one token. only 2 angels. I wouldn't call that "flocking", more like "par for the course" for white, especially if those are the only angels mentioned.
Sorry about all the pessimism and such. something something chickens hatching.
I agree completely, however some of them, such as Slobad/Serra/Gix are most likely mono-colored, so if they continue the pattern of two new, one old with new products, Slobad and Serra would have to wait longer than Gix since they wouldn't be a facecard in the decks until the next wave of mono-colored commander products, where Gix being a non-planeswalker could appear faster. They've said in articles that they want to mix it up, so the next ones might be allied color pairs, enemy pairs, etc.
That's the major reason the Serra/Slobad fans are disappointed, they will have to wait till the next mono-wave. It could be next year, or a few, no one knows.
All we know that she is most likely not a Planeswalker Commander. There are several places she could show up, The summer supplemental product a planeswalker in a future multicolor commander deck just not the Commander. She could theoretically show up in Magic Origins if the rumours are true and it that's the name of the last Core set. (Honestly that's the theory that makes the most sense to me)
Until we saw Teferi I'm not sure there was a huge demand for Serra as planeswalker card or whatever demand there was, was for the most part wishful thinking.
I'm sure MaRo and the others have noticed the demand for Serra and have put her on the short list for future planeswalkers that fit outside the normal story line
I agree with all this honestly, except for the demand which seemed pretty high imo, but I digress. If Origins is what a lot of people are hoping for, we may indeed see her there, and we can then only hope for her to have that terrible "can be used as your commander" line (still dislike the way that line looks, but that's probably just me),that would make a lot of people happy.
It's just one more poke in the eye to their older fan base that has stuck it put this long. Freyalise slightly makes up for it at least though!
Old flavor fans are such drama queens. We have Teferi, Titania, Freyalise, motherloving Feldon, and yet when they don't get Serra, it's "one more poke in the eye to their older fanbase". This is a product where they actually are throwing people a bone, even though the majority of Commander players couldn't care less about Magic stories from the 90s.
I would have loved Xantcha or Gix in the Black deck, but there are plenty of newer Magic fans fond of Gisa, so I'm not going to complain. We already got an entire block of clunky nostalgia-driven cards to enjoy.

Why would you want Slobad? He was barely a Planeswalker before losing his spark.

Guess what? I wanted Serra also as this is the perfect place for her to be printed. Am I and others disappointed? Yes. Is it OK to be disappointed at her exclusion? Yes.
Can we move on now? I hope so.

I agree with out that the current product is really full of old and new characters that will make most EDH players happy. Feldon is a homerun ( played with the cane for a long time) as is Freyalise. But the casual player in me just wished for an angel-related planeswalker and Serra is the best bet. But perhaps WOTC doesn't want to play in Mishra movie all over again...

Personally, I don't care about Slobad, I was just answering the other question about why people were talking about it.
Also, I'm still humored by the fact that the way I chose to express my disappointment makes me a drama queen. Again, go around the other threads that even briefly touch on the white walker speculation, and I'm not the only disappointed fan for Serra.
Could I have chosen a different expression, sure. Please realize that the older base does feel ignored sometimes in favor of the newer. All hobbies like this slowly move in that direction, it's normal and rational business sense to attract new buyers. So yes, I am disappointed, but isn't everyone when it comes to the things they would have liked to see happen, this game or other things? Yes, Time Spiral block was for us, and it rocked. Yes, Freyalise, Teferi and Feldon are for us, I completely agree. Am I, and others, asking for too much to also have Serra with all that, absolutely, it's unrealistic I admit, and selfish. Personally, I started in Urza block, Radiant was my first real rare and I have been a fan of Serra and her fluff ever since. So yes I'm disappointed, but I'll get over it and move on.

Well you're no fun. Should've used a not so exaggerated word for it I guess.
But angels appearing out of the woodworks are not helping really.

I'm an old player. Pretty excited for Feldon. I love Antiquities, and hope to see some cool artifacts/artifact themed cards. Honestly indifferent towards Serra. I don't care if they print her or not. Might even prefer they not print her if she's modeled after Ajani, as opposed to having original abilities.
Slobad would be cool just because I enjoyed both Mirrodin blocks.
As much as not getting Serra sucks, it makes sense that they would put Nahiri in a supplemental set even if she is relevant to the current storyline. One of the biggest issues Creative faces right now is how to continue all the stories for the existing Planeswalkers while introducing new ones. This solution puts her in a product that does not have a place in any of the timelines - much like Ob Nixilis - so that there are less loose ends floating around.

Agreed, provided Nahiri is actually dead or missing for real, and wont just appear in Return to Zendikar. Print Ob Nixilis walker totally makes sense, in his current form his spark is gone, so this lets us see him before Nahiri cleaned his clock. I'm starting to suspect that Nissa will take her spot as the new third in Ugin and Sorin's super group.

I would suggest Koth -- his magic also has to do with stone. Plus, this way there could be some quid pro quo -- "I'll join your superhero team if you'll agree to do something about these guys camping on my home plane -- and inside of it. Bring lots of bug spray."

Oh man, not going to lie, that was awesome. That would totally work too!
I won't be satisfied with Magic until I have cards of Yawgmoth, Serra, and Urza. I think anyone who played Magic pre-Modern would agree with me, they're arguably the three most important characters in Magic's first 10 years. Yawgmoth would be a monoblack Legendary Creature, Serra a monowhite Planeswalker, and Urza, well... his colors have always been up for debate.
Well Wizards did say they were never going print Urza as a planeswalker he would be too OP.
As much as I empathize with the Serra fans, I'm really happy we're getting Nahiri mostly for one simple reason: so far there are zero legendary Kor to use as commander! And they've been around since forever!
Of course, now watch as they reveal Bob the Cat as the white planeswalker. His + ability is to feed on your tears.

It would be extremely difficult to make any version of Urza that wouldn't make some group disappointed. He has used, or embodied, every color of magic, so designing a card, especially a planeswalker, would be a headache. Easier for them to just keep repeating "too powerful". Yawgmoth on the other hand would be awesome to see as a human, I would imagine he would be WB though, imo, based on his past.

Spoiler for those who haven't read it but care:
Maybe they are chosing not to print Serra as the Angel Planeswalker because their plan is to Have Elspeth return from the Theros Underwold as an Angel that maintains her spark? At least, that was what I said to a buddy a few weeks ago about what should happen to Elspeth at this point.

I think the real problem with creative is that they refuse to end storylines (at least in any other way that ends besides death for the character who's story is ending). It's the whole problem that superhero comics have: The story just keeps going and going with no plan for an ending in mind and the story just gets more and more convuluted and ridiculous as it goes.
But I digress. Putting characters that are likely established to be out of the plot, like Nahiri, in a product like this is a good way to prevent them from having to maintain an additional plot thread. If she really is the Walker in here(and it being called 'Forged in Stone' does not make it a lock, but makes it VERY likely), I'm looking forward to it. I like the idea of the character so it will be neat to see what she looks like and what she can do. Personally I would still prefer Serra since references to her are in, what? a third of the sets of magic? Maybe an overexaggeration, but Serra's Angel has been around a lot. Either way, I haven't actually bought an EDH product, but this set may change that. It seems genuinely fun and at least as precons they seem fun to play against each other. Guess we'll all find out soon enough.
I didn't actually know Serra wasn't actually an angel. /shrug. Still though, Elspeth is not from Theros. My theory of what should happen to her next is centered on her character. I feel like through her current status, she could ascend to being an angel. Besides, I never said that WOULD happen. I said it SHOULD, or perhaps that was why they weren't making an angel-centric walker yet.
This will actually be funny if they give us a stoneforge mystic reprint. Especially since they already went ahead and gave us such value as Wurmcoil engine.

To be fair, every set that they can fit in has angels. I don't think we've gone through a single commander set that didn't feature at least two of them :p. I think the only reason it seems like there are a lot is because we've had a lack of them for the past two blocks due to flavour reasons and we've gotten two previews featuring angel cards in such a short period of time (which makes sense since we only really get a week or two of previews for C14). WoTC probably feels the need to keep their representation in magic since they are essentially the "figurehead" creature of white. Plus if the commander set didn't have any angels I think people would be relatively miffed.
On the bright side, if Serra doesn't get a planeswalker card, then at least she still has a vanguard card :p.
Angels don't have sparks/can't have sparks. In Magic lore they are beings made of pure white mana. An antithesis to Demons who are pure black mana.
There's a reason becoming one seriously wounded and weakened Ob Nixilis' spark.
They're unleashing an Atog Planeswalker.
We're doomed...DOOMED!

That's not a confirmed thing. All we know is that he lost his spark to the bizarre mana of Zendikar.
