On the downside, someone IS getting 3 tokens, no way to stop that really (ofc, not a downside in ink-treader). But the lifegain can pretty easily target someone who won't care.
Actually, there is a way to get around an opponent getting tokens. Since it's an instant, you can wait for an opponent to attack another one who has poor blocks, and give the defending player tokens so that he can trade them with the other player's creatures. It may take a very specific situation for that to happen, but you get great value if it does!
True, but that doesn't really prevent them from keeping the tokens if they so chose. It's not really very different from if they just had the tokens all the time, unless the attacking player stands to lose something by being blocked by 3 birds, which is generally fairly unlikely. But it definitely beats giving the tokens to the dude with the skullclamp.
Benevolent Offering is a Sunforger target for Tajic. I think it's better than Midnight Haunting, but giving someone a bunch of blockers seems risky. Regardless, for 1 more mana, it gives another body for Skullclamp. *shrugs*
Definitely worse in 1v1 than Midnight Haunting, so I might not use it.
Instead of focusing on all these tedious, unplayable politics cards, how about giving each monocolored deck some tools to work with? I thought we got all that negotiation-garbage out of the way with conspiracy.
Agreed. All of these politic cards are getting very tiresome. We got a ton of them between Conspiracy and the last EDH decks. It was a fun novelty at first but it's getting old now, and that's coming from someone who has a Phelddagrif deck.

At least neither of these is as bad as Bitter Feud, a 5 mana enchantment that does little but paint a giant bullseye on your head because politics.
I really like the design of this cycle. At first glance it may look like "just more politicking cards", but to me they're more like "really strong cards that heavily reward having more players" (since there are more opportunities to break the symmetry).
Ways to break symmetry of the white card off the top of my head:
- glorious anthem effects (surprise! White seems to be full of them this set!)
- Trample, unblockability, protection, vigilance granting effects
- Giving life to the player that really needs better board presence

Or being the one with a Skullclamp.
Actually, I realized I also had Spectral Procession. While my deck is basically monowhite, being an instant and having slightly more utility means I'll probably slot this in over it. I do expect the token-giving to backfire some percentage of the time, though.
