I had to be a downer, but am I the only one disappointed?
This is pretty boring , we have a ton of mono white generals that are good with token aggro strategies (Darien, King of Kjeldor, Kemba, Kha Regent, etc). You can use the ability multiple times, but let's be honest, Jazal Goldmane is no Ezuri, Renegade Leader. We're talking about an ability that costs 5 to use in a color that has arguably the worst ramping in the color pie.
Yeah, he's a 4/4 for CMC 4, with first strike, but he has no evasion, this seems like a waste of a mythic. The flavor is awesome, but as a card, I have no desire to use this card as a general, or even in my 99.
Well one deck had to have a token strategy and it makes sense for it to be White: Red gets burn, Green gets big beasts, Blue gets control and Black get it's pay life to do stuff.
I'm not thrilled about this card but it's pretty damn powerful and doesn't require taping Jazal. It can end the game on the spot so while it is boring, it's worthy of Mythic and of being an important character.
Definitely a bit of a shame since token-strategies seem very "love-or-meh": people who love them go bonkers for them while those who don't don't care for them. Ah well, the Red deck already has two very exciting cards and that's definitely not something I expected.
There was a time, long ago, when a 4/4 first striker alone would have been impressive at 4 mana.
Now, this card is overcosted by almost a full mana (for Standard) and two mana (for the formats he is legal in). Ah well. Cool story card, which puts it in the same category as most other ten cent rares.
Wow you're really pretty terrible at evaluation. It's not over costed. It would be pushed at three mana. The problem is legacy would desire a smaller effect but lower cost. A 4/4 first strike with a huge upside is NOT fairly costed at 2 mana even IN legacy.
A 4/4 first strike at 2 mana with the 'my army gets bigger' trinket text would be worse than every played 2 mana creature in Legacy and by a long way.
Tarmogoyf, Stoneforge Mystic, Young Pyromancer, Dark Confidant, Thalia, Gaddock Teeg and Spirit of the Labyrinth are what a 2 drop needs to be to be costed for Legacy. This is a pure combat creature, so it has to compete with the first three, which are so far ahead of it that it is not funny.
Definitely a bit of a shame since token-strategies seem very "love-or-meh": people who love them go bonkers for them while those who don't don't care for them.
I personally love white tokens, they are some of the most flexible cards out there: they attack, they block multiple creatures, they pay for abilities that require sacrificing, and they make a lot of cards like Jazal a lot better. My problem is that mono-white already has a dozen generals for tokens, yet many of its other themes are unrepresented. Can you believe there isn't a single white legend that offers lifegain synergies? And how awesome would it be to have a legendary white enchantress? How about a creature that returns small creatures/permanents from your graveyard into play? There are so many things a white legend could do and allow new kinds of decks, but no...

A mini first strike craterhoof sounds fair to you? Really?
What the hell were they thinking with the name Jazal? That's even worse than 2012's Basandra.
1. He's a character from Alara who never got a card. Calling him something else would be pointless if they wanted to represent him, don't you think?
2. What's wrong with the name Jazal? (or Basandra, for that matter)
Man, what a disappointment. This is far and away the most disappointing card spoiled. White and Red are my two favorite colors. Red is tearing it up, but White is really sucking.
I've been looking forward to the White deck ever since Teferi was spoiled, knowing for sure Serra would be a shoe in for the Planeswalker. Now I find out the guy in charge of what should have been an Angel tribal EDH deck (led by Serra of course) is a Leonin fan who's never worked on Magic before...
Angels are obviously popular. Serra Angel is arguably one of the most iconic cards in Magic. Any time an Angel product comes out, it flies off the shelves. Akroma was voted the most popular legendary creature back during time spiral, if they print anything other than Serra it will be a huge missed opportunity. Seeing this drab, unoriginal Leonin as the deck's second in command does not inspire an overwhelming amount of hope for everyone's favorite White planeswalker (and what are Angels without Hope?)
Don't we get enough Leonin from Ajani? They killed Elspeth, Gatecrash Gideon sucked, our only Selesnya Planeswalker is Ajani... seriously guys? We saw them on Alara. Ok, that sort of makes sense. We saw them on Mirrodin. Futuristic machine plane? Cats? Ok. Whatever. We saw them in ancient Greece. Really Wizards? Take my culture and put cats in it? Stop trying to make Leonin white's stock creature. Why not Kor? Why not Knights and Soldiers? Why all these stupid cats? I'm still bitter about Theros, and now this? Salt in the wound. Maybe I'm ranting, but I don't think I'm alone here. I get it, some people love cat tribal. I support you and want your cat tribal deck to be successful. And yeah, there are way more angels than cats. But come on, doesn't it seem a little, forced? Am I alone in thinking this?
Please Wizards, don't make me hate the White commander deck.

I wouldn't be nearly this bitter if he was at least an interesting card. We got 3 really interesting legendaries, Gisa who was at least unique in what she did, and then this. Token commander #4724.
Admittedly Kor would have been weird (not quite as weird as Leonin with that vaguely Egyptian feel). I'm obviously going to be biased, but I feel like there could have been more humans. We got centaurs, minotaurs, hydras, a dragon... felt like there weren't enough humans. I felt like Innistrad had the perfect balance of Humans vs Monsters, Us vs Them. Theros felt kinda one sided to me. But I digress.
Wish this guy gained life, or did something with enchantments, or interacted with the graveyard like the other legends. Feels very out of place.

I think they could find some design space for lifegain. If a week ago I had said "Red clone legend" people would have been like "We have Kiki Jiki", but Feldon is awesome. Totally new spin on the "red makes haste clones" thing. We have Trostani and Oloro already, but a monowhite lifegain general could say something like
"Once per turn, when you would gain x life, you may instead put a creature card with x toughness/cmc from your graveyard onto the field"
Just for instance.

I'm not too torn up over him, and the card seems fine...but I have two issues: 1, this was the ideal place to finally get a card for Feather, and 2, there are already half a dozen white generals with different ways of supporting token strategies. One could argue that Kongming, "Sleeping Dragon" is better for the same cost as a static buff to all your guys. I wouldn't, but one could. Just seems unnecessary to have a card for a guy whose whole contribution to the mythos is that he died and that sent Ajani into his R/W emo phase.
Feather would be a kickass card, but yeah, would have to be R/W. Probably a 3/3, flying, double striker. Can't think of anything unique for her to do though.
It's getting pretty late. I wanna say something like "White Weenies as a non token strategy isn't viable in commander due to a lack of decent ramp (other than Knight of the White Orchid and Land Tax)and a lack of decent draw" but I honestly don't know if that's correct right now.
Instead I'll just say that even if we get the Lithomancer instead of Serra, I'd still take her over Ajani. Just how I'd take Teferi over another Jace.

English version is up on the mothership. Can't post the link yet unfortunately but it's /en/articles/archive/en-day-1-2014-10-23 after the standard website.
"As my kha he is the source of my inspiration. As my brother he is the embodiment of my aspirations"
Dang, I was hella close, haha. That fist part is definitely courage in the Japanese version though.
Hmmm, the white deck is looking more token-y than I initially thought. And with many of those tokens being spirit tokens, a straight P/T pump is more useful than the card lets on.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

I would say that Brimaz is going in your Jazal swarm deck.
