On Nixilis is in, that had to mean Nahiri is out then, right?
RIGHT?!
Come on Serra!
As I said in the other thread, this pretty much confirms Nahiri will be the white planeswalker since there were like three other options for the "character you know but maybe not by name," and they were all black planeswalkers.
So among the 3 walkers from the past we have Teferi.
Is Ob the known but not by that name?
As much as it annoys me, that may means that Nahiri is the white walker. They are like paired up in the lore (sort of). Man, I was hoping to see her in expert product. And that would be disappointing to miss a Serra card.
Three old walkers, one known but not known and one new
On Nixilis is not an old walker, nor is he brand new story wise. He fits the known but not known category 100%.
Come on Serra!
Ob Nixilis was an old walker. And how would anyone not know Ob Nixilis by name?
Ob Nixilis and Sorin are retcon old walkers. The term is supposed to mean any character walker from before the mending that was an already established character. I swear, if they don't follow their own terminology and somehow claim he is a real and not retcon walker...
Ob Nixilis was kinda unexpected, someone speculated him, but i never thought it was possible. He looks like some kind of Dracula or Bloodlord of Vaasgoth. And him being in probably means Serra is out, because as Tackman said, most of non-Nahiri candidates for "known, but not by name" were black. Eh.
As soon as the Uncharted Realms Ob Nixilis story came out, a lot of people were speculating he might be in.
Also, I'm still in the camp that says Nahiri is out now, unless they broke their own terminology for old walker.
If she's in, couldn't she be green? She would fit the modeled after Nissa comment I think. Green has order, and the old reason we keep thinking white is because Kor are white, but that doesn't have to be the only reason.
Sorry but why Nahiri has to be white?
Lithomancy and white does not feel right since rocks are either red or green I would think.
It is true that the hedrons are linked to imprisonment spells but nowhere it is specifically stated that Nahiri is linked with that aspect of the hedrons, it could very well be Sorin or Ugin, herself just making good looking rocks...
And Nahiri is a Kor from Zendikar, a race so far exclusively white, and the only thing we saw Nahiri doing (not as "the Lithomancer" from the distant past) was using a Hedron stone to seal Ob's curse. Very white, not at all red or green.
If Nahiri is in, she has to be white. She is a Zendikar kor specializing in binding magic.
Trust me, I'm not saying that I want Nahiri over Serra. Ever since this product was announced I was excited that we would finally see Serra printed as a planeswalker, and whenever someone mentioned Nahiri being the white planeswalker, I told them it would be a gigantic wasted opportunity for Serra, especially since there's nothing stopping Nahiri from getting printed in a future Standard set. However, these past few days have been pointing at Nahiri. We can argue about semantics, what they mean by "characters from Magic's past," and "a character you know but maybe not by name," but I really feel like doing so will just set people up for disappointment.
I would love for Serra to be the white planeswalker, but I don't see it happening at this point.
Explain to me again how Zendikar's self-appointed protector would decide to "sacrifice that [particular]plane" instead of another.
Maybe she is not native (there must be Kor in other planes), and swore to protect Zendikar because of the guilt for what she had to do? We are pretty sure she defeated Ob way after dealing with the Eldrazi. A thousand years or so is enough to gain this "self-appointed protector" fame.
Maybe because, being white and not red or green or black, she chose the needs of the many (planes) over the needs of the few? Probably it was either sealing the Eldrazi in the only place it could be done (Zendikar) or leave them free eating planes (including potentially Zendikar anyway)?
Or maybe Sorin and Ugin dupped her, and by the time she realized the fate of Zendikar it was too late? I can see Sorin pulling something like that, again, for the good of all the planes.
I think I'll put my money on Nahiri and a Flamekin/Cinder Planeswalker to finally have a Lorwyn rep, because if they do an old plane callback they're going to want it to be something unique to that plane.
"Three are characters you'll recognize from Magic's past, one is a character you know but maybe not by name, and one is a brand-new character but from a plane you've seen before."
Meh, I wouldn't have liked her anyway since Rebecca Guay wouldn't be drawing her.
Level 2 Judge

Indeed, it's like whenever there's a white character the fans like at large they find a way to mess with it.
Meant red, dissapointment messed with my brain.

White has its share of stone magic and stone mages: Rolling Stones, Stoneforge Mystic, Stonewise Fortifier, Kami of Old Stone...
And Nahiri is a Kor from Zendikar, a race so far exclusively white, and the only thing we saw Nahiri doing (not as "the Lithomancer" from the distant past) was using a Hedron stone to seal Ob's curse. Very white, not at all red or green.

Nahiri is a kor. http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/ur/dreams-damned-2014-08-06 "Then there's the kor. They avoid me. I avoid them. Because in each of their smug, chalky faces, I see her. Zendikar's self-appointed protector. Nahiri."
Your quote does not prevent Nahiri from being from Zendikar.
Oh, and it was essentially confirmed that she is the lithomancer and (being a kor) white. http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/ur/sorins-revelation-2014-09-24 "Nahiri was gone and her silence disturbed him, but Ugin should have sensed the danger."
So you can stop fighting it now.
We don't know. But the confirming text is there. You not liking it doesn't change the reality.
Read the stories I linked before continuing this conversation please.
Because Zendikar would have been fine if some morons hadn't smashed the binding to bits.
Back to Dominaria!
So Red probably has an all new planeswalker? Could be cool, maybe we will finally get a goblin. Maybe even an Akki, but I might be greedy.

So, please explain? Old walkers are established characters from the pre-mending storyline.
The article never says "oldwalkers".
"Three are characters you'll recognize from Magic's past, one is a character you know but maybe not by name, and one is a brand-new character but from a plane you've seen before."
Also, I guess I read what I wanted to out of that, so nevermind my question.
