Another thread of people who this deck is NOT for, c'mon guys.
Really?
I've bought several of these in the past.
I *definitely* won't be buying this one.
right? i snatched up the birthing pod one like they were hiding birthing pods in there. i think the phyrexian arena demon was in there. i didn't even mind the grim backwoods.
Haven't seen them make a decent event deck in years. I think the last good one I saw was the vampires one, or was it the cawblade one? Can't remember. It has been quite some time now.
Glad it does not have Rabblemaster in it. That card is busted. Won't stop people from playing it, but it's still cheap @ ~$11 as of now.

That is a good list. I was expecting this to be 3 colors as well and was hoping for the demon to get printed here. I'm not surprised the fetch isn't in it, although I was expecting it to show up. One fetch would have made this fly off the shelves, even if the rest of the deck was subpar.
How Grim Haruspex wasn't in here is really surprising to me. I didn't expect Pain Seer to be in here.
Yuck. At least the older Event Decks would have playsets of playable commons or uncommons. This doesn't even have more than two copies of halfway decent cards.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I like that there are going to be more Banishing Light, Bloodsoaked Champion, Herald of Torment, Silence the Believers, Brain Maggot, Bile Blight, Drown in Sorrow out in the wild, because these are all decent to good cards that having more available to keep prices low is a nice thing, but the value (even before prices perhaps go down on some of those due to the extra copies in the wild) of this deck is pretty light, I think you could buy it all as singles for like 25 bucks including shipping on TCGPlayer.
Boomz.... Modern event deck was Orzhov, and now it's Orzhov again. And hello again Cave of Koilos. How about crashing the price of a fetchland instead. Event decks are one of the perfect ways to soften their prices.
This deck is utter crap. We already had weenie decks in the recent past, and this is worse. Lots of inconsistent cards, crap like the Dictates which are too slow, and then you have so few spells that can target the Tormented Hero to use its Heroic ability, and Pain Seer because, what, draw? No synergy with the deck. Also Seeker of the Way, so little to use its Prowess, and there are much, much better 2-drops. Like, more Chiefs of the Scale/Edge. Poor removal suite, they should have just added two more Banishing Lights and maybe slipped in a single Hero's Downfall to round things off.
Poor creativity, poor design, poor card selection - lots of bulk rare ***** with only Bloodsoaked Champion standing out. Not even Caves of Koilos is worth much, especially since it was reprinted in the Modern event deck just a while ago, and pains aren't that hard to get a hold of anyway. Hell, the whole value of the deck piecemeal at the moment is less than $20. Considering all the two drops maybe 1-2 Return to the Ranks could be useful. I'll just make my own deck, especially since this deck is more expensive than its contents. I can make a better deck for cheaper, I wager. Utter crap.

Sure, it's easy to make a good event deck when you fill it with 2x to 3x times its MSRP in high-priced rares.
We don't need 2-3x the MSRP of an event deck, but at the least the contents should equal the MSRP, or $5-$10 more inside. This deck just falls flat on its face because of the bad cards inside that don't mesh well and many of them are not really all that wanted.

Apparently you haven't been playing attention to standard at all. Tormented hero is played as a 2/1 for 1, and drawing cards is always good - pain seer also sees play in current monoblack aggro. Also, Seeker of the way is much better than you think, I've been testing with it and just triggering prowess once or twice puts it on-curve.
Of the maindeck, the only cards that I'd cut are Mardu Hateblade, Rush of Battle, and move the dictates to the sideboard while maindecking brain maggot. Everything else is perfectly reasonable. You also have to remember that the event deck is supposed to be expanded upon and the way it's built now leaves you with several options, viable for multiple different budgets:
- Max out on both Chiefs and go all in on BW warriors.
- Take advantages of the dictate/hordemates/champions/tokens to go for an aristocrats deck, possibly splashing for Horde Butcher.
- If you have the money, go for the fully 3-color mardu aggro deck.
Giving a 3-color deck to someone who can't afford the proper fixing would be a terrible idea, do you really think you can run a tricolored aggro deck entirely on ETBT duals?
They should at least have put a mana confuence instead of the caves of koilos, remover one of the THS rares and put thoughtseize or B/W temple or Utter End/Hero's downfall... This way the deck would be more atractive and help new players by giving them more diverse cards...
The problem is that the deck pamphlet always has 'To improve the deck why not (insert current most expensive standard card). They are a business and they want people to crack packs to get them, how about including a single of one of those cards to get you started on your playset. Still encourages pack cracking / trading, softens secondary market prices on hard to get rares, among other things. Thoughtseize for example from Theros which is not being opened as much anymore could have fit, people arent hitting boosters for in anywhere near the quantities they were when Theros first released. Though i guess if they did put in decent value it would get jacked up, then the target audience couldnt afford it etc and so the cycle goes.
This decklist is sad and easy to build. I wouldn't even consider this to be suitable for an intro deck.
I and many other people would have bought it if it was a intro pack ( just remove non ktk rares , and either Herald of Anafenza or Bloodsoaked Champion to add ivorytusk fortress or ankle shaker and use the additional space to puch a splash for green or red)
That totals up to 78 dollars on TCGPlayer, not taking into account the rest. (And does the event deck come with boosters too?) So, yeah, it's easy to make an attractive list when you bust the MSRP by a wide margin. Even dropping the mire would still be more than 48 dollars. To make it under your autralian price you'd have to cut rabblemaster and teh deck woudl still be quite a bargain.

Every site I have been looking into has Bloodstained Mire at $15, not sure where you are getting that price.

Well, I checked the prices of the rares + basnishing light and I've come up to (always rounding *down* on top!):
Butcher: 5
2x Champion: 10
Grum Haruspex: 1
Rabblemaster: 11
