I posted this in the other thread as well, I'm doing the seeded booster compilations again, so we'll hopefully know all the rares by the end of the weekend. Please consider contributing as many lists as you can get ahold of during your local prerelease events this weekend so we can get them done faster.
I don't understand the hate, i'm stoked for the chance to open a foil stamped Clan Leader. Will i likely get a bulk rare, probably. But at least we are going back to something like a normal sealed and not this pick your bomb garbage.
5 Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Kits Opened X2!!!!: http://youtu.be/pS92KP4juCU. Omg this guy is opening ten prerelease boxes and a ridiculous amount of product!
So it looks like Savage Knuckleblade can't be obtained from a Temur seeded pack? Trail of Mystery seems to bump it out, as we've seen all the other Temur rares opened from Seeded packs except for Savage Knuckleblade and Avalanche Tusker, and I'm assuming Avalanche Tusker is in, since Ankle Shanker from the intro pack cycle was opened in a Mardu seeded pack.
Love their ingenuity with how to fix the "best pack" issue. Now the choice can get closer back to being about preference. Yet I still see articles now wasting their time with advanced statistical analysis on the promos, and some on the commons/uncommons :P. Some things never change.
Now I can't wait for us to settle this promo pool issue.
I chose the Abzan guild, and the promo card in my pack was duneblast, which was nice, but it had the exact same artwork as the regular (i.e., non-promo) version! How could WotC be so lazy and cheap as to not have alternate artwork for the promo cards? That utterly defeats the purpose and point of promo cards, in my mind; promo cards are supposed to have alternate artwork, or otherwise they are no different from the non-promo cards, and having the date of the prerelease event does not qualify them as promo cards, in my mind.
I hope that WotC does not continue this trend after this block, because I specifically like to have promo cards with artwork that is different from the normal artwork of a card, and I feel cheated to be given a promo card that is no different from its normal version, save for a date printed on it.

Because there are 40 promos. It would take an insane amount of comission, there would be a gargantuan amount of variances of a card in every set, and there would have to be massive amounts of planning to make sure all promos are finalized and make it by shipment date. Would those resources be well spent in your opinion?

But they are unique. Isn't that the definition of promotional? Is the Judge Gift Program Genesis not a promo? There was a time, before promo comissioning, that all promos were just foil or foil and dated.

You could check out the Khans Intro Packs. Not using the promo comissions on the Pre-Release freed up space to have commissions for the Intro Packs. It's kind of cool because Intro Pack cards used to be nothing special, you couldn't tell the promo from the card in the set. It's the same problem as you notice in the Khans Pre-Release, except it's been a problem for many years. One no longer directly affects the price of the other, which is kind of neat, and gives more reason to buy an Intro Pack. I feel it's kind of a good thing that the Intro Packs get promos, since Intro Packs aren't just designed as a one-time event.
well, i like the new promo format. no stupid unplayable junk-promos anymore.
but you can now actualy really get a good card in foil and dated.
i got a bloodsoaked champion as my promo, my brother got butcher of the horde.
i like it. i have no use for terrible pre-release promos. but i have use for GOOD and constructed playable foil cards with a timestamp.
Yeah, I was lucky to get Utter End as the pre-release promo out of my seeded pack, had to play Jeskai to have a good deck though because my Mardu selection was rather weak.
Okay, so I thought that having eight promos per clan would help with one color combo not running out too quickly at the events. Boy was I wrong. In the noon event I went to today, they had one Abzan and two Mardu packs left, like four or five Temur and all the rest were Jeskai and Sultai. What's the point of letting us choose our clan if anyone who can't make a midnight or Saturday event can't even choose between more than two out of five. I wanted to give this whole seeded pack thing another chance, but after today, I believe the old school way of just getting six regular packs with no playable promo is the only truely fair way for Wizards to do it.
I'm pretty sure I prefer this new way of doing things for a number of reasons,
not the least of which is getting more of certain foils into circulation
(which is especially nice for Mythic Commanders like the Khans,
which can easily hit $20+ for foils).

Oh yeah, I think players should be able to pimp their EDH decks more easily at the expense of the prerelease experience. Fer sure brah...
Playing as Jeskai (against my will) and only playing against Jeskai for every round other than round two (vs. Mardu) was enough for me to swear of prereleases for at least the rest of this block (barring any changes to the seeded pack system).

And you *really* think that's because of their new way of doing promos?
NOT because they didn't balance the clans well?
People didn't choose Abzan because they had a chance of getting a foil Anafenza-
they chose Abzan because of cards like Abzan Falconer and Abzan Battle Priest.

While it is true that the colors/clans aren't balanced in KTK, it's not easy to fully balance the colors (and color combinations) of a set, so it really does make sense to randomize the players' Sealed pools as much as possible (and by doing so balance those pools as much as possible). The best way to do that is to disallow players to choose the colors in their Seeded packs (since that just encourages everyone to pick the same colors/clans, which leads to a stale and repetitive Prerelease experience). And sorry for the run-on sentences...
