All I see is an incredibly fun limited environment with some very powerful standard playables. All the charms are at least interesting with the best being must plays, we got our usual couple of cards that may see play in other formats along with the Fetches which by themselves should be enough to make people happy. Plus all the nonbasic lands for EDH are great. So if you wanted overpowered format breaking cards, your not going to get them, however if you wanted a meta that has a good chance of beign interesting and fun with a great limited pool I think you will be quite pleased. Plus the art is uniformly great!
I agree. With the full spoiler the set looks quite good, with cards for everyone.
Cranial Archive is a nice replacement for Elixir of Immortality. Not reusable in the same way, mind you, but it can be a powerful weapon against Delve if need be.
Pretty disappointed with khans, the overal power level is to low compared to theros. Only the fetches worth it...
I'm sorry you feel that way but of course, nobody is forcing you to buy this set. If you deem it not worth the money then of course, feel free to save it.
Today was the limited reveal day. Basically nothing constructed playable. Sorry Jeskai and Sultai ... guess it is going to Mardu and Azban season with a hint of Temur.
Kind of looking forward to seeing a whole bunch of interesting decks pop up and invalidating this. Are those likely the ones to pop up first and be strong out of the gate? yeah. They're obvious. As I said, this is a marathon and a puzzle. Not a sprint. We'll see what turns up.

Honestly, it looks pretty good. I'm kinda surprised that some of the best delve cards are common. Sultai Scavenger even beats the +3 Delve tack-on. There's a lot of random creature-type love (yetis, lammasu, kirin, elk), though Human and Warrior stand way above the pack.
A few cards look better in other wedges than their advertised ones, Mardu Blazebringer for Temur, Disowned Ancestor for Sultai
The Sultai toughness love makes sense, but seems a bit odd. Arrow Storm looks like a decent expensive burn card. I was kinda afraid that red would be neutered after the reevaluation of cheap common removal, but it looks like it might turn out okay. Bellowing Saddlebrute makes me wish Suicide black was possible with modern design, but it can't be
Has everybody missed Singing Bell Strike? It's the ONLY card in this entire format that removes something unconditionally for two mana. Yes, if it's very late game, they can pay a million mana to untap it, but you should either have won or don't care by that point. The only strike (heh) against it is that it doesn't stop Courser of Kruphix from playing lands off the top, or Goblin Rabblemaster from making Goblins. But just being able to make both those cards unable to attack or block is something NOTHING ELSE at 2 mana can do.
I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?

True. The unfortunate problem is that it's also an enchantment printed after a solid amount of enchantment hate. Even in this set it's got a bit to contend with like Erase and Naturalize. Definitely going to be one of the premium removal spells but not a permanent solution and seems to be playing to the Aggro-tempo aspect of the Jeskai.
On another note I'm curious about something and I'm hoping someone else may be able to help me out.
The sultai seem to have to borrow from the other clans for the low end of their curve but I'm still trying to figure out how exactly the Sultai are going to win regularly in limited. They don't seem to have an aggro deck and I'm still puzzling out the more defensive/attrition strategy they might be using. Does anyone have a general idea of what you might want to do to win if you were playing Sultai?
I don't know why people act as if limited is an excuse. Rise of the Eldrazi was a limited centric set and was clear about it. This set isn't doing anything innovative, nothing unique to set it apart limited-wise. Whats supposed to make this set any better for drafts than any other large set? At least with a set like innistrad you'd get some killer flavor
It's perfecting upon a formula they've never really perfected before. RoZ was a huge deviation, and should be treated as such. This is the norm, and they've not really done a 'normal' set well, excepting Innistrad, which had a very different dynamic. And of course this is a wedge set, if you haven't noticed.
Of course, these are merely first impressions, but it looks far more balanced and less clunky than sets like Theros.
Formulaic isn't a word I'll use positively to describe anything. It might not be bad at limited, but it isn't doing anything innovative or outstanding either. That can't be taken as a plus. I won't count it a strike against this set, and I don't imagine it will have particularly bad limited or anything, its not like it has pack rat printed at common, but I'm trying to find some redeeming merit for this set, and turning up empty handed.
Theros wasn't exceptional on an art/lore/flavor front, but it was still fairly strong, so I gave it that. It was't near innistrad nor NPH and not even zendikar for that matter, but theros wasn't a flop in all categories. If I wanted to point to one good thing about khans, what would it be? I can't just say "Hey look guys, we reprinted fetchlands and delve!"
Morph...looks really terrible in this set. They really did nothing, but use it to reduce bloated costs down to what the creatures should have costed anyway. The black common Morph is a ridiculous joke, the morph cost and cast cost are the SAME. So the only utility I get out of it is if I need a 2/2 on turn 3 I can get it....
Looks like some eagle-eyed observers were right. *smirks*
This set, without the fetches, are pretty suboptimal. With an as-fan of 1.58, we can't simply called it a wedge set. I'm sorry Wizards, your main selling point is missing big time. Shards of Alara may not get limited perfectly, but it delivered with actual gold cards. I don't want to play ONLY with multicolored rares, I want them at uncommon and common level as well.
Instead we get a 7cmc 5/4 flyer. And many other expensive drops. Really?
What do undercosted 3 color beaters even do for limited? Generally, you'd get the appropriate mana on T5-T6, in which case these cards are like 5 mana cards that open 2 mana up. However, in a live-the-dream T3 or T4 tri color scenario, these cards are just blowouts. I do agree that many of the 3 color common/uncommon creatures in KTK could have been more pushed, but I don't agree that the way to do it is to make them cheaper. Early "Oops, I win!" junk really should be avoided in limited, and that's exactly what cheap 3 color beaters promote.
And for constructed, undercosted french vanilla 3 color cards aren't playable by themselves. Woolly Thoctar's impact in standard came from it being a 3 cmc freebie potential off a Bloodbraid Elf, not because it's 3 mana 5/4. I don't even recall hearing anything about Tower Gargoyle.
There are some cards in this set that are cool, like the fetchlands. But that's about it. At least IMO. I was already planning on moving to Modern after hearing about the quicker set rotations, but the cards in this set just suck. Limited players will be happy. I don't understand the Modern players who think any of the non-fetchland cards are playable. I'm not seeing any potential. EDH players might be happy.
Good luck to all the standard players.

As for the set, I like it and I like the Limited challenges that it poses. A couple of good EDH pieces as well. As for Constructed, I do not give a damn - I am not playing it.
But, as a Vorthos, I must say that this time, there is a rather high number of really bland and unimaginative flavor texts for my liking. I did not like Ivorytusk Fortress because of its flavortext, but unfortunately there are many like that. Yes, there are gems, but rather scarce compared to flavortext chaff.
Yay for lot of awesome commons and uncommons that'll make this draft format rock!!! I loving the Mardu, Jeskai, and Abzan but am am feeling rather wary about drafting either Sultai. Delve particularly worries me as I feel you really only want a couple delve cards since it'll be really hard to fuel many of them in limited. That being said this draft format looks REALLY REALLY FUN!!! I can't wait to draft it!!

I agree, I going to do the same . I may play standard for a little longer to be able to pick up more modern stuff with store cred and trades.
I'm pretty disappointed by some of the design decisions.
The few 'toughness 4 or greater' cards seem very counterintuitive when ferocious is in the set. Were those 2 cards really that important? Really? Are you sure?
Also, why did they not just reprint inspiration? Why waste another (even not-very good) name!
Alter of the Brood, a sultai themed card only milling your opponents? Why not make it a choice?
Sage of the Inward Eye having the same prowess trigger without the keyword. Couldn't they have worded prowess differently?
I keep seeing these little design fails and being dismayed.
I too am excited about a lot of the uncommons, but the rares don't grab me. A lot of fun cards.
Another why, Wizards, why is WHY does Pearl Lake Ancient have prowess? Why does a 6/7 flash beater need prowess? It just seems so utterly pointless on such a large creature. It's something for small, agile things, not a gigantic leviathan. It feels like lazy design. I mean, I hate prowess in general, but sticking it on the Ancient just really got to me. It shows that they were either really next-leveling us and it's going to be bonkers on him, or they were just extremely lazy.
Surrak Dragonclaw, while potentially powerful (not that Standard will ever have real counter spells again), just seems like a total cop-out design-wise. It's like they had no flavorful ideas so they just said, sure whatever, your stuff can't be countered and has trample. Whoopeee.
I don't know what it is, but the design of this set just feels totally uninspired to me. Maybe that's why they didn't reprint Inspiration
Sorin is pretty boring. He basically just does the same thing as his last incarnation. Makes vampires, gives your team +1/+0 and lifelink.
Limited looks like it will be fun, but I feel like they fell flat on a lot of the rares. I guess they just figured the fetches would sell the set so why waste time on cohesive and interesting designs?
Wow, as an EDH player, this is the first set in a long time to make me kind of want to play standard. Mardu and Jeskai both look like loads of fun but would be much, much harder to do in EDH the way they're supposed to be.
I really feel like Jeskai was shafted this entire set. For a clan based around combat tricks, messing with your opponent and making them "think twice about doing something" they only have 2 combat tricks (Jeskai Charm and Flying Crane Technique). All but 3 of their creatures arent worth playing in Standard (Mantis Rider, Seeker of the Way, and Monastery Swiftspear are the exceptions).
Jeskai Ascendency would be worth playing if it cantripped instead of looting, Narset, Enlightened Master is slightly overcosted (should have been 2URW, not 3URW..or atleast have been a 3/3).
Jeskai could have really benefited from having 1-2 decent 1-2cmc combat tricks that works with their mechanic, which is also very poorly shown. Most creatures with Prowess will never see play because their underpowered to try and balance the mechanic, which thinks you'll play 1-2 noncreatures per turn so their cost doesnt seem too large, which is hard do to in a deck that cannot replenish their hand and all their creatures are super weak compared to their casting cost.
All the best cards in the colors of URW ended up as WR in Mardu or UR in Temur.
While I do agree that the powered down rares are unexciting I VASTLY prefer this to Theros which had a couple awesome rares/mythics and then waves of terrible uncommons and commons that felt absoulutely sickening. Also I feel like the draft format here will be vastly preferred over the hot mess that resulted from Theros having so much weirdness/ultron ***** going on. Also I honestly am already enjoying this set's flavor more than Theros'.
