Jeez, look at Kheru Bloodsucker. Tarkir vampires are ugly. I hope they print some better ones so I can play them and point out the art every time I cast one.
I am a little surprised and certainly let down that we got no good burn spells in this set. We know that Arc Lightning doesn't make the main deck anymore, from our experience with Flames of the Firebrand--nobody knew when that card came in or left standard. It's too bad, really. This standard will have no good one mana burn, not even Shock.
Pretty disappointed with khans, the overal power level is to low compared to theros. Only the fetches worth it...
I'm sorry you feel that way but of course, nobody is forcing you to buy this set. If you deem it not worth the money then of course, feel free to save it.
I'll never understand why people feel the need to say this. This is a forum for discussing the quality/playability of magic cards and products. We are all well aware that nobody is forcing us to buy anything.

Rabble Red and new Mardu aggro doesn't need any burn help. Id like a better sweeper than we got, but we will have to make due with turning dudes sideways and upping pw loyalty.
And this should be an amazing limited set if you can play your uncommons when faced with some baaaaaaadly placed rares.
I am mostly impressed with this set; while I may find some cards to be disappointing, I do not believe that the set is overall a failure. I share the complaints of other users regarding how logic knot was not reprinted, and how there is no equivalent of woolly thoctar or tower gargoyle in this set, but perhaps such cards shall be in the next two sets of this block?
I am very displeased with the reprint of shatter in this set, especially because this set also contains naturalize, which is strictly better than it. Why did WotC not reprint smelt in this set? Was not smelt supposed to replace shatter as the standard artifact-destroying card?
I am definitely very excited for the prerelease, now, and, if the players are given a choice of clan to play during the event, I shall likely choose either Abzan or Jeskai, unless another clan has very appealing promo cards.
I remember LOLing when this card was spoiled. Though Become Immense and Cruel Sadist are both pretty stupid names too. The names seem to be a little bit derpy lately..
Powering down rares, makes sense if your current focus is creating a strong limited environment. Getting people out to the FNMs, and Limited is more interesting if it isn't about who can crack the best three rares. I'm not sure how it is where you are but the FNMs at most of the game stores near me are draft. They run modern and standard events but friday nights are draft. So better uncommons and commons make for a better draft experience.
Also it's interesting to note, that despite Allied fetches there's not a single allied pair card in the set. Clearly they are chase rares but you don't need them for a good standard deck.

The lack of allied cards is because wedge clans focus more on enemy color pairs. For example you could start off drafting with some black and white cards and be able to move into either Mardu or Abzan depending on your best judegement. Say however that you've grabbed a couple sick green and white cards and totally want to use them in whatever deck you end up with. In this case you're FORCED into Abzan (that is if you actually wanna go for a clan instead of doing something weird like going for shard colors or just two colors). Look at all the wedges and you'll notice how each has two-enemy colored pairs and only one ally-colored pair. I persoanally am really happy that thy printed so many new enemy colored cards considering that many enemy color-pairs need love compared with their allied color pair brethren.

Already having 8 of each fetch land and what this set has to offer other than that...my pre-order of 2 displays and a fat-pack will be cancelled. Abzan looks cool, but will not invest money in this, as I mainly play eternal formats.
I really feel like Jeskai was shafted this entire set. For a clan based around combat tricks, messing with your opponent and making them "think twice about doing something" they only have 2 combat tricks (Jeskai Charm and Flying Crane Technique). All but 3 of their creatures arent worth playing in Standard (Mantis Rider, Seeker of the Way, and Monastery Swiftspear are the exceptions).
Jeskai Ascendency would be worth playing if it cantripped instead of looting, Narset, Enlightened Master is slightly overcosted (should have been 2URW, not 3URW..or atleast have been a 3/3).
Jeskai could have really benefited from having 1-2 decent 1-2cmc combat tricks that works with their mechanic, which is also very poorly shown. Most creatures with Prowess will never see play because their underpowered to try and balance the mechanic, which thinks you'll play 1-2 noncreatures per turn so their cost doesnt seem too large, which is hard do to in a deck that cannot replenish their hand and all their creatures are super weak compared to their casting cost.
All the best cards in the colors of URW ended up as WR in Mardu or UR in Temur.
I generally agree with this, but Jeskai Ascendancy would have been absolutely broken as it is if it cantripped instead of looted. Maybe not in standard without loads of mana, but certainly in modern with things like Manamorphose and other ritual cards. Having EVERY noncreature spell replace itself in hand is much more powerful than you may think.
I'm not in love with the set, but I'm still riding on the high of the fetchlands reprints and eagerly rearranging the mana bases in my Modern decks. So, Khans could have consisted otherwise entirely of Thing From The Deep functional reprints and I'd be still okay with it as long as I get fetches.
Next year's Standard looks kinda boring thus far. I think I'll play some kind of budget aggro if I play Standard at all. Does anyone looking at this set see some kind of viable Control deck post rotation?
ATTENTION Limited players! please open lots of packs and pull lots of fetches to flood the market. aside from that, not really BNG/JOU bad, but not much better. one common and a mythic i care about

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
honestly, any real competitive standard player feels that this set will change anything in the T2 meta?
hmmm... I expect the same archetypes dominating the format: devotion, agro-red, planeswalkers...
Decks will have to be altered, replacing the RTR and M14 cards lost in rotation, but I don't see many Khans cards taking tier1 deck's slots.
Limited, is another story.
Half of the rares are superbombs in limited, despise not being useful for real constructed decks...
Uncommons are ok, some good picks and synergies...
Commons are too weak, except the green ones wich are decent ones. In general morph effects are poor: unimaginative and too mana expensive...
So in limited everything will resolve around drawing bombs/removal in the right moment... no way to overplay bad players... it will be a luck based format...
I see the opposite. Limited is always bomb driven, but I see this set as less so. It will however create some super duds here and there with Master of Pearls and such, but comparatively it's not bad.

I'll throw in a small set like New Phyrexia (possibly the best small set in magic's history and run it in a gauntlet against Khans. I don't think it's close at all.
In the case of Khans, the uncommons definitely outshine the rares. I'd say perhaps there's isn't an overpowering card here that sticks in my mind. I guess when it comes to limited gameplay, it's better in a sense.
Themes that seem overdone and aged today were innovative for their time. Plenty of alpha cards would seem very boring designs today, because we've seen it done a hundred times over

Because it's nicer than telling someone to quit whining over the cards. If you don't like the set and aren't willing to look at the puzzles it presents, or don't think it's worth your time and aren't willing to even try in the abstract then that's fine, vote with your wallet. I'm just tired of people complaining because they didn't get everything they wanted exactly how they wanted it.
Mer-Ek Nightblade is the friendliest looking orc I have ever seen.
Rotting Mastodon basically says "Fate Reforged will have mastodons!" I like this a lot. And Woolly Loxodon is amazing.
Dragon Grip is probably my favorite use of Ferocious so far. It can also enable other Ferocious cards if you have a 2 or 3 power creature.
