Well he did fight a cave bear. If a cave bear is supposed to be bigger and tougher than the bears we seen on Tarkir so far (4/4), it would have had to been at least a 5/5 or 5/6.
or as strong as a bear (4 power) but quick enough to punch in the face (first strike, which makes sense in red), and would still be able to have a reasonable toughness (anywhere from 1-4). 6/6 just seems silly to me, but not as silly as other cards made semi-recently like emmara soo...Im pretty much over it I guess lol

I concede to that point, though he is apparently worth a more pretty penny than the other khans.
To be fair, he fought the bear when he was younger. He most likely has only increased in strength as time has passed. (I don't think he would have gotten weaker after becoming khan...)

I would expect him to get weaker as he gets older. Im only 24 and I already feel like the years are catching up to me compared to my younger days hahaha ...(thats only kind of a joke tho)....
But as far as being a Khan, thats not like a magical aura, right? Its just a title. An honorific, like King or Lord or such. I wouldnt really expect someone to be stronger just cause they are made a Khan. At card level, I suppose it makes sense, if we had a Young Surrak as an actual card I can imagine it being a little wimpier I suppose, but generally I dont ascribe special powers to titles like this.

Personally, I think he would have to keep being stronger because I'd imagine Temur as a clan where only the strongest lead and get their rule challenged if they show weakness. Plus, as you get older, you get wiser and I'd assume learn more magic to boost your strength, and just get better at combat I suppose.

I guess I was a little vague when I said weaker, and I think you make a good point. Physically, he looks like he is about 50-60 ish, although he could be 40 something and the wilderness has just taken its toll. In that respect, I would not expect him to be as physically capable as his younger self (assumedly shown on savage punch).
In terms of knowledge in combat, honing of instincts, experience and magical/spiritual power, I agree that it should more than make up for his age. Guy is like Old Snake, dont eff with him
As far as the Temur requiring him to stay on top of his game, I think that you make them seem a little too survival-of-the-fittest only. This weeks UR does say that you can challenge the Khan to a wrestling match and be the new leader, but I think that it more stresses the point that they are a big unit looking to survive together. Like a family, they watch out for each other and what is best for the clan. So if Surrak is a good leader (which it seems like he is), then he probably isnt getting challenged every day and needing to stay in peak physical condition. If anything, Id say he stays fit to protect his clan against the Mardu and Sultai....and yes, cave bears lol

Well he can't be too old, probably no older than 30 something, because that article posted earlier said the temur don't usually live over 40 due to the harsh environment. So he's probably middlish aged for a temur, and as for p/t they attack the mardu for supplies/fun as well as having to fight big nasties like Savage Knuckleblade so I don't think that they would want someone like Daxos of Meletis to be their khan.
And as it stands I like his abilities, I wish he had trample himself and gave everything else some kind of other ability like first strike or even deathtouch.
Edit: I just realized daxos may actually be pretty good in the upcoming meta with all the big fatties rolling around.

Then you realize Daxos is awful and can't deal with any of the fatties in the format on the defensive side and can't attack through Courser.
I also like the progression of cynicism in the forum, "all these new cards suck and are weak" to "this card is strong, obviously a fake"

I seriously doubt that this dude is 30, but I guess it doesnt really matter and you make a good point about the Temur not usually living as long up in the wastes.
I agree that itd be cooler if he had trample, deathtouch doesnt quite feel right though...
And lastly, I really dont think ANYBODY wants somebody like daxos as their leader. Or as a follower. Or just in general lol

I am very fond of Surrak, but is he not far too powerful to cost only 5 mana? In my opinion, a 6/6 creature with no abilities is perfectly balanced at 6 mana, and maybe a single ability could keep it at that cost, but, with all those abilities together, he should cost 7 or even 8 mana, in my mind. Also, why does he himself not have trample, despite granting other creatures that ability?

The key is how restrictive his mana cost is. Paying GUR is not exactly easy.

Perhaps it is to an amateur player with a poorly-constructed deck, but I am certain that an expert player with a well-constructed deck shall be able to pay that cost easily, and I still say that that is too low of a cost for a creature as powerful as him, especially when one considers that each of the titans from Magic 2011 costs 6 mana and Akroma costs 8 mana, and they are all 6/6 creatures, as well.

Not every deck will have courser, and I'm definitely not about to say he's a 4 of in ANY deck, but maybe as sideboard tech, and I'm sure there will be ways to get rid of fatties other than the new 5 cost wrath. And for things like courser, Last Breath takses care of it.
And as far as his mana cost, the new morph shaman brings him out real quick, so dropping surrak won't be that hard unless they destroy your morph

Maybe a "year" is simply not the same length as it is on earth.
I mean, its a different plane, could easily mean a year is like 600 "days" (and even a day might not be 24h ya know).
So age actual fairly easily shifts and changes if we talk about fantasy of different planes.

However, its true that these folk is easily dying in the frosty war focused world, so it might have a truth of both.

Well being 6/6 is one thing, and he is a good creature, but a "titan" is still overall a better card, with more value by themself (especially the constructed viable titans) ; and if you must, compare this dude to Baneslayer Angel or Wurmcoil Engine ; he doesnt really match that cards, but he provides a different kind of extra and fights a different kind of deck (as he clearly sucks against point removal .dec).
For flavour it would be funny if he would have "Enters the battlefield, fight target bear".

I should rephrase difficult to "restrictive" in that a deck-maker usually has to play ETBT, fetches and/or or pain lands to field a creature with three colors in their cost. I mean look at Woolly Thoctar. Powerful in standard, non-existent in older formats. This expansion is about fan-service to vocal and diligent wedge fans so why not include a couple of strong cards?

Neither Arbor Colossus nor Underworld Cerebus exactly tore up RTR-THS Standard. I mean, they're good cards, but they didn't warp the format and one saw hardly any play at all.

I would say he's actually *quite* above the curve for the current Standard,
though he will have a tough time competing with Mardu's toys.
As for being a boring General, that's fine... it's about time RUG got one.
Animar, Soul of Elements and Riku of Two Reflections are both crazy good,
and Intet, the Dreamer is almost certainly the best of his cycle.
They also got the bonus Maelstrom Wanderer, so I don't feel too much pity for Temur fans in EDH
