So is Jeskai supposed to be spitting out tokens too? Because between the charm, Flying Crane Technique, the prowess-lifelink djinn and now this, I'm getting that impression? I guess we're just not seeing the lower-curve Jeskai cards yet?
This is how I evaluate this card since it is a combat trick. If the card read:
3WW
Instant (RARE)
Cant be countered
Put a 2/2 (possibly with haste) onto the battle field, then creatures you control get +2/+2 until end of turn
Would I play this card? If so, where would I put it? Is it worth a rare slot? Is it over or undercosted?
It would be a 4/4 creature with with the option to be tapped and attacking, yes it would be a rare, and no it would not be overcosted, although it wouldn't be earth-shattering either.
Edit: sorry yeah 2/2, thought you said other creatures.
It's not that we're getting the set's umpteenth rareshifted uncommon. It's not that I believe that every card (even every rare card) has to be a Constructed powerhouse.
It's that, by so clearly demarcating these cards as "meant for Limited" they are stripping all of the elements of discovery out of this set.
Never have I seen a set where it was so patently obvious what is and is not supposed to be Constructed-playable.
Now, it's probably likely that I have mis-evaluated one or more of these rareshifted cards. But for the most part, it's pretty clear that these are Limited picks that you'll play on draft night and never again. Knowing that the potential just isn't there for most of these cards, that makes me very unexcited to open packs. I like to be surprised and inspired. Nothing about these rareshifted cards is doing that for me.
I feel like the morph mechanic has suffered greatly from the creature power creep that's taken place in the game since Onslaught block. In that era, we played 3 mana vanilla 2/2s and it was K. Most of the time they were Battlemages with kicker costs that yielded an ETB effect or things of that nature but if played on curve, at the end of the day, they were still 2/2s with a 3 mana investment.
In today's game, that's simply unacceptable. Creatures at 3cmc are so much stronger than they were then that it almost feels like playing a vanilla 2/2 is a timewalk for your opponent. That's not even accounting for the additional mana spent in the activation cost that you're virtually priced into paying just to try to recoup some of the efficency loss you took when you played the face down creature to begin with.
Its possible cards like this one will have a role to play in the upcoming standard. You never know how the meta will shape up. But everytime I've seen one of the new morph cards I've been looking around the corner for a card, or cards, to make an inherently suboptimal ability viable.
Here's another morph guy and I'm still waiting for the missing pieces of the morph puzzle. I'm starting to think they're never going to show up.
So is Jeskai supposed to be spitting out tokens too? Because between the charm, Flying Crane Technique, the prowess-lifelink djinn and now this, I'm getting that impression? I guess we're just not seeing the lower-curve Jeskai cards yet?
The Jeskai deck is probably meant to be filled out with commons and uncommons like Jeskai Elder.
"wow, I can't believe Wizards makes cards that are bombs in limited. They should constantly cater to the constructed audience, and make the power level of the car so blatantly obvious a baby would first pick it." People, not all rares in a set are meant to be constructed playable. I'm sure that if this guy ends up in the pro tour winning deck (I'm not saying he will), you'll all be praising the card and scorning people who think it was weak, like people did with Thassa. I like this card for limited. Always a first pick.
.....
I never said I want every rare to be constructed playable, i hardly ever play constructed. I also don't necessarily want every rare to be over the top powerful(even though one or two of those would be nice), or a staple, but I am tired of the "rare shift" to borrow a term from Guesswork. I don't hate the set as a whole, the flavor is awesome and there are a few playable cards(Ex. charms, ascendancy, new demon), but overall I'm a bit underwhelmed so far; particularly with the Sultai,I really wanted to play BUG if I played, but it looks like i'm going Mardu, that janky Lich killed it for me.

Anyway I'm ready to declare this the worst card in the set all around. Not necessarily the most unplayable, but certainly the most pathetic. At least the goblin piker did an impression of a rare effect. This guy makes dawnglare invoker look like a superstar
An uncommon? Really guys I think that'd be way to strong for limited. It's a righteous charge which was always awesome as a one of for drafting boros aggro because of the kill potential you got.
So if a card is "awesome as a one-of" in limited, it should be rare because it also gives you a bear, at a cost of 6WW over the course of two turns?? Doesn't that seem a little bit too careful to you?
Inspired Charge cost 4W as a common, for a better effect (First Strike > +0/+1).
This is like Inspired Charge but as a upside you get a extra 2/2 body and as a downside you have to set up morph one turn before, which means tempo loss and a risk of loosing your creature.
In the end of the day, it's not very clear which one is better, Inspired Charge or this. The convenience of not having to morph one turn before completely makes up for the extra body (you surely playing something better then a 2/2 for 3 mana) so the only thing this card have over Inspired Charge is a small card advantage.
So, the card is about as good as a M15 common. It's a good M!5 to be fair but this is still a lot worse then what a rare should be.
Yet another design that isn't good/flashy/legendary/complicated enough to be rare, but with the excuse "it would be too good for limited at uncommon". Limited sure gets used as an excuse for poor design a LOT nowadays.
But yeah, he's a Bear, and he has an ability. Might be worth almost as much as Skylasher (75c) someday!
If anyone thinks this is remotely balanced at uncommon, they are insane. Why would you want Dictate of Heliod (in a way) at uncommon?
The +2/+2 is only until end of turn, so a better question is why would you want Righteous Charge ("in a way") at uncommon?
If you want the pump as a way to save your blockers, or save your guys from red burn, there are instants that give +2/+2 as well, like the unplayable Swell of Courage.
I fail to see why they couldn't have made the morph cost 2WW and had it only affect other creatures you control. It would have been so much more playable that way, and it would have made very little difference in Limited.

I think it's unfair to call cards like this "poor design" because even if they are unexciting, they were designed with a clear goal in mind - to make the limited experience better. If they fulfill their role in the environment they were designed for, than that's not in the least "poor design". I feel that some people are just using comments like "poor design" and "lazy design" to make it seem like it's not like they're just not liking the cards on a personal level, but to make it seem like they somehow know what "good design" is (even regarding a limited environment that can't be fully evaluated yet). Making an obviously busted monocolor uncommon that would ruin limited (maybe at the expense of being an awesome constructed staple) - that would be "poor design".
That being said, this particular rare (and a few other ones that got spoiled so far) pretty much fail to excite on any level, and that's not something a rare should do. I agree that it should have been more powerful.
Why would you ever want to play this for its non-Morph cost? If you drop this on Turn 2, you're really struggling...
True, but to be fair, sometimes you might end up with 2 copies in hand. Drop one on turn 2, morph the other on turn 3. Then, if you drop a couple 2-drops on turn 4, you'll be able to flip this guy for a bunch of damage on turn 5, including 4 from each of the Master-of-Pearls.
It still sucks, but I guess that's about as good as it could get with this guy.
Not a fan of this card. It isn't Constructed worthy (face-up would need to be better than a bear or morph would need to be like 1WW), and is far from a bomb in Limited. Overall a very weak, boring rare.
I would be disappointed, but there was also a certain white demon spoiled today that makes up for it.
I think it's unfair to call cards like this "poor design"
You're right, it could also have been poor development.
I will sit down and stuff my face full of crow on one condition: KTK lives up to the very bold promise that it's making. That promise is nothing less than KTK being the greatest Limited environment Magic players have ever experienced. If it is that, I forgive it everything. I will admit that it's time to shape up and welcome our new NWO overlords, because they will have demonstrated their worth in crafting the definitive Limited experience. Anything short of revolutionary means that somebody goofed.

+1 on that. Frankly, I've also become quite tired of the whole "but Limited!" argument, even if I used it my in my previous post in order to be fair (because we haven't seen all cards yet etc). With that many cards being made "for Limited" I really hope that I'll have an absolute blast playing limited Khans. Otherwise, cards like this one will just feel wasted.
