I fail to see why they couldn't have made the morph cost 2WW and had it only affect other creatures you control. It would have been so much more playable that way, and it would have made very little difference in Limited.
Because they decided, and publicly stated, that there will be no morphs that, when unmorphed, will straight up beat other morphs unless their unmorph cost is less than 5. The end result is we have a bunch of morphs that feel like they should be 3-4 to unmorph but aren't because wizards said they have to be at least 5 since they allow morphs to beat other morphs. So we get stuck with stuff like this guy at rare and that 4/4 for 6 that unmorphs for 5 at uncommon when they could probably be cheaper, a rarity down, or stronger.
My argument is that I will open up this and my opponent will open the new Butcher and eat my face. Two cards, yes, but it's been a trend in Khans, which overall I like btw, just some really questionable decisions here and there.
You should be pretty happy opening this for limited. You either gonna blow them out or get in free damage as long as you get multiple morph creatures.
Yes. I should be exactly +0/+1 more happy than I would have been opening Inspired Charge, an unpopular common in the most recent Magic set to be released.
Oh, wait, I have to pay 4 more for that effect? Well, then.

I read the previous post about that. The card I suggested would still trade with other morphs even after you unmorphed it.
I think it's unfair to call cards like this "poor design"
You're right, it could also have been poor development.
I will sit down and stuff my face full of crow on one condition: KTK lives up to the very bold promise that it's making. That promise is nothing less than KTK being the greatest Limited environment Magic players have ever experienced. If it is that, I forgive it everything. I will admit that it's time to shape up and welcome our new NWO overlords, because they will have demonstrated their worth in crafting the definitive Limited experience. Anything short of revolutionary means that somebody goofed.
Well, clearly, if something is built for Constructed, then it'll play good in Limited (Modern Masters). The other way around, not so much (this set). I don't see any counterargument to that.
Inspired Charge cost 4W as a common, for a better effect (First Strike > +0/+1).
This is like Inspired Charge but as a upside you get a extra 2/2 body and as a downside you have to set up morph one turn before, which means tempo loss and a risk of loosing your creature.
In the end of the day, it's not very clear which one is better, Inspired Charge or this. The convenience of not having to morph one turn before completely makes up for the extra body (you surely playing something better then a 2/2 for 3 mana) so the only thing this card have over Inspired Charge is a small card advantage.
So, the card is about as good as a M15 common. It's a good M!5 to be fair but this is still a lot worse then what a rare should be.

Inspired Charge is only available in M15 new player decks and deckbuilder's toolkit. It's not in regular boosters.
Sanctified Charge, on the other hand, is in booster packs, and it is a fantastic card in M15 limited. In fact, it's the best common in the set, just going by numbers.

Yes because ignoring the body that Master of Pearls has at all stages of the game and comparing it to an instant is totally apt.
This card isn't flashy or exciting like a rare should be, but I think people are just going to be angry getting used to the downshift in power that the sets will be slowly going through. Right now a lot of cards that in other sets would be weak may actually see constructed play in standard simply because they are the best alternative around. Now if you are a Modern/Legacy or Powered Cube player then you have some legitimate complaints to make as the depowering of standard right now will almost certainly effect those formats much harder than Standard will be. From an aggro standpoint if there is any WW type deck running around, a 2/2 for 2 is a decent start in a weaker standard but having the ability to have an instant speed pump spell to force through some damage and allow your two drops to be useful top decks late game shouldn't be underestimated. It can be a solid roleplayer depending on how the meta shapes itself in the next few months. Then again people didn't think Desecration Demon, Nightveil Specter or Pack Rat would see serious constructed play while Innistrad was still in standard either.
As for the "but limited" argument why wouldn't Wizards focus on the format that actually gets people to open packs and moves product? Besides, just because standard as a whole is lowering in power doesn't mean its strictly done for limited gameplay, wizards can't just keep power creeping everything forever otherwise we just end up with something as awful as yugioh.

that number is sort of biased, it counts the winrate after having cast sanctified charge(and cant see if its in your hand), but you will very rarely cast sanctified charge unless you have atleast 2 creatures, kinda the same why garruks wake is so high up there, if you can cast a garruk wake changes are high you are winning, there are quite a few games however where its stuk in your hand. Its still a good common but definatly not the top one.
also heavily tilted by the fact that there are 2 token makers on common which will not be in this set.
about this card, while its sort of underwhelming, but atleast for limited its still great, \you just can't ignore the fact that you get an extra 2/2 that bashes in for 4 the turn you unmorph it(getting in for an extra 4 is the difference between a vanisho first blade and a grey ogre, between very good and unplayable), and 2 toughness makes your guys much much more likely to leave combat unscathed, 1 toughness extra is often not enough and 2 usually is not, there is a large difference between alpha striking and retaining most of your team or losing half your team.
Triplet Spirits is probably the best white common in M15 and is one of the big reasons why Sanctified Charge is so good in that format.
The body can't be ignored but neither can the set up morph requirement. I mean, to even use this you need to spend 3 on a 2/2 before. If you had sanctified charge in hand, you would surely use that mana to play a better creature instead, unless you are already out of cards. Generally Sanctified Charge gives you a better board but one less card. This is also a lot more riskier then charge as the opponent can just kill the creature before you have a chance to unmorph it in a proper time.
In the end I think the Master of Pearls should be a little bit better then Sactified Charge, but just a little bit. But the fact that there's even a argument for the charge already proves the point that this is too unexciting for a Rare, specially a rare made for limited.
My biggest problem with morph creatures, specially the rare ones, is that their basic bodies are not impressive, so playing then without the morph is a act of desperation and the reward for morph comes only from the triggered ability. For example, this guy would be so much more exciting and still not bonkers if he was 3/3 first strike for 1WW instead.

Brain Freeze is the coolest card ever printed.
