Well, the last mythic doesn't have Outlast. But it does have +1/+1 counters, so even if it has the Sultai watermark, I'm counting it as an Abzan mythic anyway. In my heart.
Anyway, fun card, in the same vein as Chasm Skulker, though it trades upside on the generated tokens for immediate redundancy (right from the moment of casting, if you kill it, the thing just splits into...many parts...that's really awesome hydra design, actually). I'm imagining a gimmicky Temur deck with those two and Purphoros and it just makes me all happy inside.
Wouldn't know much about standard playability, but as long as it doesn't get countered, the thing is super-resistant to removal, even if it doesn't do much beyond that. At the very least, it's a powerful beater to take advantage of Abzan's counter lords. I like it.

Are the sultai special? They already got a mythic sorcery, why do they get another mythic? Aren't we pretty much done with mythics now?
They also gave one (watermark) to that weird giant turtle monster.
It would appear as if whoever was responsible for putting the Sultai Watermark on cards was drunk.

A tear shed for outlast mythics lost. Really do appreciate the hydra love though! Sick art too!
Well now, hey, don't count this out as a non Outlast mythic. Look at the uncommon revealed tonight. "Creatures with +1/+1 counters have lifelink." Sure this doesn't have ooutlast, but it DOES get buffed by everything that buffs outlast.

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Welp, that's interesting. A Sultai card that combos with all the Abzan Outlast dudes. That's going on my list for the next Ghave deck. Just confirming that I'll have to keep two of those on hand from now on.
For some reason I want to make a really bad W/G control deck with this, Meandering Towershell, and Elspeth to have everything dodge the crap out of sweepers and get value out of them leaving the opponent with nothing.
Perhaps I'm just being wishful, but it actually seems kind of fun.
Having never played with morph creatures, if this particular card were to die facedown, would you still get the snake?
No, even if you somehow had +1/+1 counters on it you still wouldn't get any snakes if it died while still face down. When it hit the bin it was a colorless 2/2 creature with no name, and no abilities other than morph.
And the first thing i've noticed is how cute that snake heads look. Especially those orange appendages.
It's "credit in reverse" hydra, where you either pay cost at one point, but lose part of mana invested, or pay two times and at second time it's honest 5/5 for 5
Well, you better get used to them. They are for green what angels are for white and dragons for red now. There will be a few of them in every set in the foreseeable future.
As for the card, it looks nice. I especially like how both modes - casting it as a morph and for its regular cost - can be relevant. Morph it if you want to get it out fast, pay X for a bigger creature later. Trample or something would have been nice, but the rules text is already pretty crowded, so...
Oh a 5/5 that you don't want to have to kill....sounds terrible ::sarcasm::
What is the threshold for a good card? This card is bonkers. Leaves behind 5 power, it's like you didn't even kill it. Why would you kill it? Because it's killing you hur dur. Mono-green devotion, maybe with a splash for something like Sidisi or Garruk or xenagos, is going to be a tier 1 deck in the future. They just have so many high value cards and efficient ramping.

Close, but off on one minor but occasionally relevant detail. Morph is not an ability that the creature has while face down. This means that if you have something out that cares about abilites, like Muraganda Petroglyphs, it'll see the face down creatures as not having any abilities at all, and give it +2/+2.
They're trying to make me love the utterly unloveable Morph, by slapping it onto really cool creatures.
Ikr? At least this is a morph you don't mind dealing with if you are going for value. A 3 mana 3/3 that made 3 1/1's was a MAJOR roleplayer in standard so why can't a 5(ish)mana 5/5 that makes 5 1'1s be?
Wow just lost a long ranting reply, but the just of it is wizards prints at least one dumb rare/mythic hydra per set with an X ability, and it's getting hackneyed. Anyone can design a relitively flavorful hydra with an X ability for a specific plane, but just because they can doesn't mean they should. It doesn't make a world unique by having a unique hydra. If every plane has a hydra no matter how different they may be it's boring and lacks creativity. I can even do it: Earthquake hydra- art, large hydra with many heads emerging out of a volcanoe, some of the heads are half molten.

See that took me all of three minutes. It's not broken in standard, maybe a little pushed in EDH, but it's probably ballenced enough. I'm essentially done with hydras where it's doesn't make large amounts of thematic sense. This hydra is just extremely boring. If wizards knows what's good for them they'll stop printing a generic mythic hydra every block. It's not gonna magically become more creative and interesting. And it's not like these are developer cards either(otherwise if assume they'd see more standard play and relevance in limited) there's some jerk in design who is just making a million hydras for a casual hydra tribal deck at our expense. I'm just so sick of it (And seriously, underpowered generic phoenixes two blocks in a row? (Little off topic) give me a break)
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not, but this particular Hydra has a particularly favorable interaction with the new Hardened Scales enchantment.

Particularly favorable? One additional counter hardly seems worth it.
