easily my favourite rare up to now, maybe because it's finally a good creature that does stuff it's wedge-colors imply. It's like a baby thragtusk, only that thragtusk was infused with malice and rage. whip of erebos looks fun once again!
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
There's nothing I don't love about this card. Built in triple extort, multi-color to dodge Sultai charm, that sweet spot of 5 toughness to dodge burn, all at 4 mana with a trample cherry on top. And it's a RHINO! Yes!
Happy to see a great rare in my clan with life drain.

Trolljutai, YOLOghan, Swagumgar, Bromoka, and Derptarka, the Elder Dragons.
Ok... To all the disbelievers, Remember Thragtusk was good due to being blinked and replayed multiple times. I play this T3 on Mana Ramp (one 6 point life swing), drop Skybind T4, blink (second 6 point life swing), play another enchantment T5 (third 6 point life swing, NOT including attacks). This will be Thragtusk/Restoration Angel/Angel of Serenity stupid VERY easily.

MTG Junky... First packs being a starter of each 4th Edition and Ice Age. Good Grief, I've been playing since 1995? Where does the time go!

this is mtgs, where occam's razor is so blunt it can't cut jello any more.
This is pretty insane, I really like abzan agro/midrange now. This color combination does have some of the best options for removal too so polukranos isn't that big of a deal, downfall, utter end, suspension field, banishing light, hell you can just run a bunch of ulcerates in the agro version and debuff the polukranos, which would most likely let this guy beat it.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring

We would need a flicker effect that is instant, or has flash, to really make it work the same way that Thragtusk and Restoration Angel did though. If it does happen though then it will be quite fun.
Im not even convinced it is good enough for standard, polukranos is most of the time better, I trade trample and the 3 point lifeswing for the better casting cost, the +1 strengh and the removal skill most of the time.
Card is good thou.
It's a 6 point life swing which is one attack from polukranos without it getting blocked.

sorcery helix on a baloth body (check my older post for references). Might even be modern playable.
I correct myself: This can single handedly revive the junk archetype in modern as a 3x or 2x main 1x/2x sideboard card. I can't imagine this with a good 1 drop similar to noble hierarch with outlast and abzan colors.
Cult of the Succubi Eating Kitten and Brotherhood of Hamsters - Zombie One/Hulking One - Brotherhood of Hamsters disapproves of Damage on the Stack amputation, the corruption of Mythics, and the "Major changes to Extended" in July 2010. You aborted our cards., but we approve of the Modern format. Even if it doesn't ha ve Carrion Feeder or Caller of the Claw in it.

Wizards: Abazan is about +1/+1 counters and has this coolr ability called Outlast! ...Which u can only use on your turn as a sorcery! Oh yeah.. and u gotta tap the creature!
Me: Errr... Ok... well as long as we get some sort of support maybe it will be a cool mechanic...
Wizards: SCREW THAT GUYS! HAVE THIS AWESOME and EFFICIENT ETB CREATURE! HAVE FUN!

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Beefy, durable, and reaps immediate value for its cost. If Reaper of the Wilds can see play (and it did, from time to time), I suspect this might, too. Pretty awesome.
It's appropriately costed, and will be overestimated at first until players realize it's pretty mediocre. I don't think it will be worth much, maybe a few bucks to start with and then down to the dollar bin after that.... like Reaper of the Wilds.
Also, pretty loose way to make a card. Jam trample on it to make it feel green (even though black can do it alone), and the lifedrain ability is black (although white can do that alone). Coulda been monoblack. It WORKS in WBG, not saying otherwise, but it sure doesn't need to be. Feels like Shards of Alara again, where everything just had extra colours in the mana cost, "just because".
It's neat, but this card is no Thragtusk. Thragtusk was borderline oppressive (and a lot easier to cast). The +5 life was nearly impossible for some decks to fight back against and it always left behind a 3/3 body, so it wasn't profitable to trade with it OR slap it with a removal spell. This card comes down, does it's thing, then I hit it with removal and don't have to worry about it anymore.

Huh. It's almost like Mark Rosewater was correct when he said that Wedge design space was extremely limited. Funny how that works.

Wow I think this is the first time I've seen someone actually use the dies to removal argument about a card DESPITE it having an etb effect. I guess the new standard is etb AND LBT effects and/or hexproof for a card to be good?
Yes the card is overhyped, but it IS solid. If this doesn't see play, it's because it's lacking a proper azban shell, nothing else.

A lot of people in this thread are calling this card "the new Thragtusk". I am simply pointing out that this card is NOT Thragtusk, which is probably a good thing because Thragtusk was a little too powerful.

Yea, I get that. Honestly I was gonna multiquote you and rancored elf but then was lazy and only responded to you so a good chunk of my disbelief is directed at him haha. Fact is it's a good card in standard which is the only format it really matters in. Tusk doesn't see modern play and was still a good card, this will be the same way I feel given it's in a lower power environment than tusk was. I think it's actually a well enough designed card and is not gonna be a dollar bin rare as rancored suggests.
Weren't Abzan supposed to be the controlling long game colors this set? jk. Totally not mad about this at all. REALLY interested to see where the rest of the set goes with stuff like this.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was starting to think trample on efficient beaters had been phased out.
Love it.
I think the flavor text is relevant to the drain effect. A huge war-beast coming on to the battlefield affects the morale of both sides.
Skybind is bad.

This card makes me torn between Temur and Abzan. I guess it is more about which beater is better: Savage Knuckleblade or Siege Rhino.
