For this explanation, I'm going to talk about the as-fan of multicolor cards. In Return to Ravnica, the as-fan of multicolor cards was 3.58. That is, if you opened a random Return to Ravnica booster, you would expect an average of 3.58 multicolor cards. In contrast, if you open a Khans of Tarkir booster, you will get as as-fan of 1.85. What this means is that Return to Ravnica had almost twice the as-fan of multicolor cards of Khans of Tarkir. In plain English speak, that means that Khans of Tarkir will have multicolor cards but not nearly in the volume (very close to half) that they appeared in Return to Ravnica.
People should not understate how great it is to have such decent budget duals. This makes at least every EDH player happy. Well Done WOTC giving the people what they want.

I guess this is due to multicolor distribution across rarities. Multicolor is looking like its concentrated on the rare and uncommon slots. This basically means we wont be seeing so many hydroform kind of cards
Ok look at Pearl Lake Ancient. That's totally a dragon he's just lying about being a leviathan so he doesn't get hunted and have his bones casually scattered around a non-basic land.
Speaking of non-basic lands
10 common dual-taplands
5 uncommon tri-color taplands
5 fetchlands
That's 20 nonbasic lands in one set so far. Helps with drafting this set I'd imagine.
Also wizards say it takes them no longer than a year to design a set. Notice how blood is already in development. This set doesn't scream wedge. Only 5 mythic wedges. With 5 mythic mono colours. Could they not make 5 myth ice wedges and 5 enemy mythic creatures instead. Shards had 10 mythic arc creatures. Seriously just compare this set to Shards. Simply ignore the fetches and lands. Only compare the creatures. Where's my godsire or my sovereign sphinx? This set is indeed weaker than RtR and is much a wedge set as Dark Ascension was a multicolour set. Ins had 4 mythic ally creatures. So did DRA.
We've seen under half the set. Seems a bit hyperbolic to be pronouncing that it's a horrible set or not a wedge set. Calm down. As for the cards today... I'm actually really excited about the refuge lands. I wonder if they'll see play this time but with the scry lands and the fetches I doubt it. Shame though because if I were going to get into standard I'd really rather not need fetches. -_-
A 1 mana kill spell. Dear lord, that's instantly Modern-playable.
I want to think so, but A) You can't use it early game, B) it nonbos with Goyf and Scavenging Ooze, and C) by the time you get around to having enough cards in your GY to be able to use it, well, a 2 or 3 mana spell would have been OK as well.
It's hardly a nonbo. It just doesn't always play super nicely together. The only strike against it is that it's unplayable early - Goyf and Ooze are hardly considerations. In fact, the card gets even better against Jund than it would otherwise be because of this. Besides, your opponent is generally fueling Goyf on its own and you'd just not remove creatures with it for Ooze. It's not even remotely uncommon to have 3-4 superfluous cards in your graveyard.
Think about Esper control, which might be a thing now that we have UB and UW fetches. Besides the couple of spells they may want to Snap back, they're going to be perfectly happy shrinking their own GY and killing things for 1 mana.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
It's a weird card. It's big enough to act like removal, and it can protect itself for what might be a trivial cost, but I doubt anything in this first set will enable it.

id love to hear who plays cut over dismembe in esper when it eats your snapcaster targets. card is good in standard its just too conditional for serious modern play over three better always one mama removal spells
I am LOVING the new refuges!!! As a sometime summer camp counselor I know SO many kids who would be so happy to have these lands. The thought of their smiles is all I need from these cards. They're fantastic!!! Hell I'll probably stick some of them into my commander decks
The green morph card is also really nice in a casual morph deck... which i'll probably make just because I can . In any case though, turning all your morphers into civic wayfinders is really nice and the p/t boost just makes morph even more of a ridiculous blowout in combat.
The mythics... are extremely disappointing. I can see why the leviathan was made a mythic but I still feel that it doesn't deserve to be one. Couldn't they have added trample/islandwalk? I'm fine with prowess because of the way it encourages control players to have to risk being more aggressive with their spells if they want to beat the opposing player's fatty...but COME ON you couldn't have added some more to this mythic? I honestly much prefer the Sphinx from Theros. The Phoenix... would have been good if that morph cost didn't cost you an arm and a leg, and if it didn't also have one toughness so that it was SO easy to kill. I mean even Flame-wreathed phoenix is better than this card. And WHILE we're on that subject WHY DO PHOENIXS have to SUUUUCCCKKK (with the exception of Chandra's Phoenix)?!!?!?!?? They're such cool creatures and it's super depressing to see the weak cards they're given.
All in all though I'm happier that the mythics suck rather than the commons/uncommons. This way i'll be disappointed less often when I draft KTK
Edit: Also Murderous Cut is FREAKING AWESOME!!! Except the name. I mean really. So the cut was given life and now it's murderous? Seriously would've been better just as "Cut" or "Backstab"

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
The blue one is probably one of the worst mythics ever printed. I really like the phoenix and at worst its a 4/1 flying for 4 that leaves u a 2/2 token when it dies, the green morph enchantment should be good for casual and the removal with delve is constructed playable.
Oh you young whipper snappers, you have no respect for powerful blue creatures. Back in my day we played our Rimefeather Owls and liked it. And before that even we had Stalking Stones.
Like you can see I said " one of the worst ", also the cards you mentioned are all much better than this, Rimefeather Owl can become a 2 turns clock easily, Lorthos, the Tidemaker wins the game when it attacks, Quicksilver Gargantuan sucks but at least got some potential, this is just a random 6/7 for 7 with bad abilities.
And Gargantuan is just a 7/7 with bad abilities. And the Owl dies instantly if you get Armageddoned in most cases.
You can make any card seem terrible by twisting the words enough. The Leviathan is okay. It's not Archangel's Light level of awful, but it's decent.

They made functional reprints instead of reprinting the old allied color cycle to give EDH decks more affordable duals. That's a nice touch. But why are they so afraid to make good Phoenixes?
Oh and EVERY new set is the worst set ever on these forums. Ignore that nonsense.

I would like to say that although Dismember is ridiculously strong, the 4 life lost from it isn't trivial. I can think of instances where removing cards in your graveyard is a better idea than losing 4 life, even at the cost of anti-Snappy problems.
Of course, the existence of Deathrite in the same color as this makes it unlikely to see legacy play, as Deathrite can easily turn those resources you removed into ramp, a clock, or a stabalizer and works much better with Dismember to nullify the downside of having cheap removal.
Still, in Modern it should be trivially easy to cast this for 1-2 mana as early as turn 2. Will it see play? Eh... maybe in some number in Modern, quite easily in standard control lists.
I think the Phoenix is much better than people here think it is.
Sadly, though, seeing the set, I'm already left wanting the next wedge set, because I now know that this won't deliver what I wanted from a wedge set, outside of charms and tri-lands.
Kind of similar to how, immediately after Theros, I wanted to get the next enchantment block, because Theros was actually the Aura block, and I sure DIDN'T want that. I want to see interesting global enchants, and cards that play well with enchantments. Not a bunch of Auras and creatures with with word "enchantment" tacked on to the type-line.
But the biggest issue, both here and with Theros, is knowing they won't be doing either again soon, because they're passing off this shash as "we already did it not long ago" because of the tri-lands and the charms in Khans, and because of the Constellation mechanic in Journey, and we know we aren't getting anymore wedge support this block, outside of what's needed for limited play in Fate Reforged.
Loving the lands. Gorgeous artwork. Pearl Lake Ancient is terribly disappointing but I'll still want one for my Ula's Temple EDH. The Phoenix is great IMO.
Do you remember that the leviathan is Blue a color that goes into Temur, like the clan that poops on elspeth's token all day long? (And that seemingly happends to have a plethora of spells to cast and trigger that prowess up)

Flash and cant be countered are not bad abilities. It just doesnt have reach like trample or islandwalk would give it. I like it but it leaves me with the same "wth.." feeling i got from the Lion Turle. It is fun with Borbo though no? Return lands, fling lands, win game?
