I don't see all that resemblance, aside from the fact that they're both huge dragons, like me and you are both humans.
Ugin is turquoise and has feathery wings. Nicol bolas is of a golden-orange color and has bat-like wings.
And the horns are different: Ugin has flattened, almost buffalo-like horns; Bolas' are smooth, high and have that levitating ball in beetwen.
There was some small "family" resemblance.. For me, it's the horns despite the differences you have pointed out.. I guess I was expecting something different from a colorless dragon.. I do like the wings though..

For me its the body, both share upright humanoid positions, the body shape is sleek at best. Most other dragons in magic do not have a humanoid pose to them.
Horns while difference shape are still long and pointed. Notice the similar neck line as well. Also they both have goatee type beards.

The moment I found out that Sarkhan was in Khans and that it was a time travel block I knew Ugin would play a major role. Especially when we find out dragons are most likely going to be a huge part of the third set in the block. I knew Ugin would be talking to Sarkhan again and he must be talking through some sort of time resonance before he was killed by Nicol Bolas to kind of prevent what happens to him and to the Dragons on his plane.
And I have been saying WE WILL BE GETTING OUR SECOND COLORLESS PLANESWALKER the moment I figure Ugin will arrive being that he is always referenced as such.
This is also to say that we might be getting a new Nicol Bolas Planeswalker card as well as the last set is going to try to reverse Ugin's death to Bolas.

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
How can he be Bolas' equal if Bolas has already killed him once?
Are you still a planeswalker if you die and someone brings you back to life?
We don't know how Bolas killed him in the first place. We know that he "dealt with him", and that's it. Maybe he wasn't alone/he had help, maybe it's a larger scheme (like pushing various clans to hunt and kill dragons with a mysterious magic, etc etc) that caused Ugin to die, maybe they're not equal at all.
And I guess he's not brought back to life directly, we just stop his death from happening in the first place.
The horn difference is pretty clear. They are similar, but not the same. Plus Ugin doesn't have the Gem of Becoming floating between his horns. If you can't see that they are not the same dragon then I don't know what to tell you.

Old enough to know better, much too young to care.
Man, I get that there are stylistic similarities between the two, but those horns look nothing like nick's. Also, Ugin seems to have a kind of cobra hood thing going on with his neck in both this art and the one from the fate reforged promotional art. I'm wondering though if this means we get Ugin in Fate Reforged. Seems like a strong possibility, however I was thinking that maybe the "Dragons of Tarkir" would be Ugin and Bolas for the third set showdown. If we get Ugin set 2 I fear that the Ugin/Bolas rematch might take place semi off camera
Its more his body shape than his horns the give off a small Bolas vibe.
Not every dragon has a tapered waist like Bolas does, but Ugin does share that characteristic.
Snake-like body and snake-like face. That's not a "small" Bolas vibe. That's straight up Bolas with a color swap and a horn + wing change.
Unless there is a story reason for the strong resemblance (like Ugin is Bolas's son), I hope this shoto-clone trend doesn't continue with other prospective dragon planeswalkers. What's next, a black-colored Bolas with beads around his neck called Drakuma?
chandra and liliana look the EXACT SAME why would wotc make them both female 5'6 and white. I just cant tell them apart. There is absolutely no difference between the two!
The dragons both look like dragons, but its kind of embarrassing if you mix the two up.
Bolas looks slim but he's really huge. I wonder if Ugin's the same size. But based on wizard's portrayal Ugin's pretty large himself, as seen by some of the arts. I really hope we get another colorless walker. I wouldn't mind if he has more red characteristics (on the card) because he's a dragon after all.
I dunno, this reminds me of when we got the Nivix Guildmage art and everyone was screaming that it was art for Ral Zarek. People tend to lump things that are similar together as though they were the same. We categorize things broadly and see patterns where none exist. To me, I agree with
Feathered serpent spirit is more what this art looks like than bolas. We have seen similarly styled dragons across multiple planes before, is it so hard for people to believe that more than one dragon in the vast multiverse developed this particular body style?
I'd like to see a weird but crippling ability for his planeswalker ult. maybe something akin to.
"You get an emblem which says "All spells are colorless and mana iis spent as if though it was colorless. Your opponents spells and activated abilities cost X more, where X is the current loyalty of Ugin."

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Darn, I thought Ugin would go on four legs (and look like Eternal Dragon). I thought Bolas would be a bipedal exception for a dragon walker, and not increasingly the rule.

Yeah, the body shape, horn material, and bipedal stances are also screaming more than coincidence to me. I thought Ugin was just a Tarkir dragon, but I'm starting to believe the third plane Elder Dragon theory.
Also, Ugin has feathered wings and a lighter colour scheme? The first guy on the block, and the guy who Ugin resembles, has bat-like wings? Quick, start the Galacta Knight references!
Won't it be funny if in the end we find out that Ugin was actually a part of Nicol Bolas that separated when Nicol was dealt with the first time?
Confirmed:
Ajani summoned Ugin when he and Bolas battled.
In all seriousness, I think these two are way too close in appearance to be a coincidence. I'd almost bet some money that Ugin actually is related to Bolas, somehow. The character design is just waaay too similar.

I'd rather get an emblem that says "Your opponents play with their hands revealed. During your turn you may play spells from their hand and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any colour to cast them."
Oh the fun I would have.
EDIT: Also both Chromium Rhuell and Vaevictus Asmodi are not humoniod and are elder dragons. So no the humanoid thing isn't genetic. http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Dragons
Those are also two REALLY old arts from before they consolidated art design.

Agreed. Either Ugin and Bolas are related to each other in some way or Wizards is INCREDIBLY uncreative (which I don't believe). Ugin looks far more like a sibling of Bolas than any of the other Elder Dragons, who all look nothing alike. I'm going to guess either they're brothers, Bolas created Ugin for some reason, or they were once both the same being and were split into two characters for some reason that is yet to be known.
Interesting that he shares the same serpentine body shape as Bolas. Its not a common feature among dragons in the multiverse so it may hint at a connection between the two.
It kind of supports my insane rambling of Sarkhan becoming Ugin. I mean that's like the only dragon he's seen, and the most impressionable to him. He'll think of dragons as looking like that, and make Ugin in the past to look like that.

Spirit Dragon =/= Dragon Spirit.
