I'm kind of upset that this Sorin isn't monoblack. All of his abilities fit in black's color pie. First ability is Cruel Feeding, second is Bloodline Keeper. Ultimate is easily black but I don't remember if it's a card.

the abyss is a card, also there is sheoldred, whispering one. I agree mono black would've been fine, I think he would be really good if it was -1 for a vampire but even as is I think he is pretty good and may even be modern playable.
He came to Tarkir with a white goal of protection in mind. He wanted to find Ugin to help protect planes from being consumed. He still acted black, such as turning the poor Temur guy into a vampire to take him to Ugin.
The big problem with this is the fact he was monoblack when he cared about the Eldrazi in his first appearance.
I think his ult is actually really good. Basically says if your opponent has only one or two creatures out theyll spend the rest of the game creature-less soon.

While I'm admittedly not to hot on the Zendikar storyline, when he showed up there the Eldrazi weren't yet released right? So his mindset would've been more "Oh the Eldrazi seal is acting up better check in on it" then "Holy **** if I don't stop these guys we'll all DIE".
That being said I'm not sure how one of those makes you more white then the other, so I guess I agree with you.
And to think they claimed about spending much time poring through iterations of walkers to get it right. It doesn't look right to me. Feels like a ripoff.
Man the amount of whining about this whole color thing. Sarkhan is monocolored, and I see people whining about him not being two colors. Head over to the Sorin thread, find people complaining he's not monoblack. Jesus.
I think he looks really good myself. I don't like Lord of Innistrad in BW tokens, to be honest. I was stoked when I got him, but he really hasn't performed for me. More often than not, he comes into play, you pop his anthem, leaving him with 1 loyalty, and he gets killed one way or another next turn. 1 loyalty is not very much. His vampire tokens are nice, but don't synergize with honor of the pure, for example. Paying 4 mana for a +1/+0 anthem is not my idea of value. I've decided against running him in tokens for now, and run Knight Errant and Tirel instead.
This guy though. His ult is doable, and a major hindrance real fast. His +1 is fantastic. As long as you don't make him come in on a completely empty board, which shouldn't be the case in token or weenie decks (I'm guessing abzan creatures may start quite small), he doesn't only protect himself, he also gives you some breathing room if you're low on life.
Needs testing, but I like him better than Lord of Innistrad in Modern. I dunno about standard yet, though.
I don't even see why people would try to compare him to Xenagos. Because both can produce 2/2 creatures? Sorin isn't meant to come in an empty board. He's meant to come and change the boardstate by boosting your creatures enough to secure him and your life total. Twice. Until he can ult, and then things start looking real bad for the opponent. His -2 is an "oh *****" ability, and isn't going to be used unless you're already losing badly, and throwing Sorin out there as a last ditch effort, with evidently little chance of succeeding. Or, evidently, if you've got sufficient loyalty and don't see any reason to ult, in which case the -6, just like the ult, would be win more.
Pumping out tokens with Xenagos' 0 will do just that - It won't get you nearer his ult, and will just help you maintaining a little pressure - for so long, hasted 2/2s are not the most impressive thing. His +1 is very situational compared to Sorin's who just needs minimal board presence - seriously, how do you even decently compare those two, they serve completely different purposes - and his ult, while theoretically good, is further away - especially since repeatedly doing Xen's +1 requires you to have a good board presence, to which Xenagos won't really contribute for 4 turns.
How does the fact that he has the same cost as the first Sorin matter at all? It has no bearing on anything other than the fact that they thought it was properly costed at 4.
They're both very different cards. Old Sorin gummed up the ground an slowly built to a big board presence with emblems and lifelinkers, and this one puts people into really difficult racing positions. Other than BW token decks, they don't really have any other decks that they'd both go into. Very different roles, and certainly not exactly the same as the old one. Similar, but that shows continuity between the character and that's good (sort of like how all the Elspeths made token creatures or how Garruk likes Beasts). Ya'll need to think before posting stupid stuff. (Except Hamster Fabulous)
I can imagine getting to that ultimate quickly and putting a lock on your opponent then casting another one if you need to for the win condition.
Not only does he have End to Hostilities to back him up he also has Duneblast which goes very well with his ultimate which is very reachable: the +1 ability is "until your next turn", it's actually decent and becomes very good if there's any good "pay X life" spells
As far as the white goes I think it suits him just fine: he's currently on a quest to save the multiverse whereas, the first time we saw him, he was just doing his thing and the Eldrazi problem happened; mechanically he's far more interested in gaining you life and while lifegain is black, it's also white and white/black. While you certainly could make a case for him being monoblack it's ridiculous to think it makes no sense for him to be white/black.

He also created Avacyn before that. Sorin being the world's little protector has been his essence from the very beginning. Sorin was a (likely white oriented) human before he was transformed.
Also, just seeing one card as black doesn't mean the character can't have other underlying colours of magic. Look at Ajani for example.
Black also doesnt mean "evil" , like white doesnt mean being good.
Look at Helios, hes totally evil, and hes the white God !
Black mostly just translates into being selfish, Liliana reflects that attribute quite well, thats why she probably will stay mono black all the time.
For Spirit Bonds to be useful, we need more creatures to help it out. Brimaz alone can't do it. I'm trying to build it, and it has a lot of weaknesses right now.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
I do wish his -2 was a 0 that made a single 1/1 vampire, you could even take away flying. Would have made him sooooo much better, but at the cost of invalidating Lord of Innistard. With a 0 ability he would have almost certainty seen a decent amount of modern play, even if you took him down to 3 starting loyalty to balance the 0 ability.
Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Radha, Heir to Keld, Barrin, Master Wizard, Prime Speaker Zegana, King Macar, the Gold-Cursed, Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer, Patron of the Orochi, Nicol Bolas, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, Hanna, Ship's Navigator, Marton Stromgald, Thriss, Nantuko Primus, Cromat, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter

Yeah, I was just about to make a similar comment. Do you guys think W/B weenie/tokens will be a thing?
Abzan Ascendancy, Spirit Bonds, Spear of Heliod, Raise the Alarm, Return to the Ranks, First Response, Brimaz, King of Oreskos...some of these may be a little too slow, but overall, it's looking like a legit archetype to me.

Don't forget Triplicate Spirits. I'm still convinced that card needs to find a deck for Standard.
