Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
This is gonna have a really interesting effect on Standard. While there aren't any dual typed lands like shocks to abuse with the fetch lands, it still DOES bring a lot of consistency to multicolored decks, and the deck thinning cannot go unaccounted for either. I actually wonder if mono colored decks (if they're still a thing through KTK and the rest of the block) will run a bunch of these so that they can reduce their total number of required lands by a bit, and thus open up space for other non land cards.
Ughhhh. I didn't preorder a box on time and now I'm going to be SOL, aren't I?
I'm happy about this for modern and such, but I'm not all that happy because this is going to make it harder for me to buy a box now :c
Fetches were fine in Zen/Alara and Scars/Zen. The only difference now is that Modern is going to jack up their prices ridiculously.
Probably not. Boxes of standard legal sets will be printed in indefinite quantities for the time being. The higher the demand, the more they produce. Shocklands were in the 60+ range before RtR, but you could easily get a box for MSRP while the set was in print, simply because any store could get more from their suppliers at the exact same rate as any other standard product. Sure, if you wait 5 years to get a box then it'll be ludicrous. But off the bat? Meh... there might be a small premium added but not much.
These Fetches will likely settle to where shocks were in the middle of RtR, to be frank, while they are in standard and go up from there down the road. So muchKhans will be openeed that Players will have plenty of Fetches in hands to drive prices of the new ones down quite a bit.
The fetches will probably be worth less than the shocks because the fetches won't be nearly as good as the shocks were in Standard. This is a major downer for all the hoarders and spectators who just invested big in onslaught fetches. Sucks to be them.

I think that will be like 5€/10$ or less each, and will drop in price like Thoughtseize

Really? Places like SCG and such aren't going to jack up the preorder prices of boxes past MSRP? Why? They've had NO trouble in the past jacking up prices on Commander decks and such as soon as one or two good cards were spoiled? What makes these boxes different?
I'm honestly curious, the last time I opened a box was one I got as a gift (either very late birthday or christmas, I believe) of RTR, and the last time I actually bought a box was from a friend who bought a case of New Phyrexia. So I've never dealt with only places, which I'm guessing is what I'll have to do, since my store, I imagine, will run out of preorder space (although I did send them a message in the hopes that they can save me one.)
I dunno how right you'll be about the fetches. Shocks were one thing, but fetches are kinda another. I dunno. Maybe they'll stay at 12 or so, like most of the Zen ones did, but back then Modern wasn't a format.
Am I the only one whos not that excited about fetches? Sure they are great and all, but does modern really need this?
Fetches are what primarily drives the prices of multicolor decks in Modern. Sure, there are other expensive cards... but not having to spend $30 or $40 on a single land is kind of a big deal.
I need a playset of poluted delta for a modern brew I am working on.
I can also get the UW and or GW for my EDH deck... instead of flood plain I am currently using.
This makes Grixis and Esper Control decks in Modern soooooooo much better than they were....be prepared to see more cruel ultimatums now... it unfortunately also helps Jund... Helps Zoo which needed help.. knight of the reliquary needed this.
Whoooooooo! Now I can finally get them for my EDH decks!
That Wooded Foothills is beautiful! Does Flooded Strand have a giant dragon skeleton in it?
They all have dragon bones in them.
Exactly what I expected but I couldn't make out bones in a few of them so I wasn't sure. Definitely a cool touch. That Bloodstained Mire with dragon bones will fit nicely into my Kaalia deck.
The fetches will probably be worth less than the shocks because the fetches won't be nearly as good as the shocks were in Standard. This is a major downer for all the hoarders and spectators who just invested big in onslaught fetches. Sucks to be them.
If history has shown us anything (Zendikar in 2009 is the most recent example), fetches will be $8-10 while in standard and then steadily climb as long as the number of people playing magic continues to grow. In fact, this announcement is pretty much an exact mirror of the ZEN announcement 5 years ago.

Am I the only one whos not that excited about fetches? Sure they are great and all, but does modern really need this?
It actually does. Do you know how hard it is to run a 3 color deck with Cryptic Command and only 4 on-color fetches, which are often not even the best ones for the deck? That changes now.
If anyone just invested in onslaught fetches within the past year as a way to gain value I honestly don't feel sorry. People have been speculating about fetchland reprints for a year now or so and they had to know it was coming. Oh and they aren't reserved/stay the heck away.
So happy fetches are back. Glad I sold mine in May suspecting this would happen. While the allied fetches are going to plummet in value right now I wonder what will happen to the zendikar fetches in the meantime before they are inevitably reprinted in the spring set most likely. Probably go down as well because the allied fetches in modern will be huge. Now shard based decks will likely rise up more versus wedge based decks since they have access to all 10 fetches so something like esper will have 4 delta and 4 strand to work with instead of just 4 marsh flats in terms of fetching basics in 2 colors.

Not just in the fact that you cannot fetch them, but also the fact that all the cards you put on the bottom have been re-randomized!

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
I'm pretty sure Zendikar was actually a pretty good set. Sure, it had its mistakes (Big Jace, etc.) but most of the designs/mechanics were solid.
