Maybe the mechanic could be the opposite of Undying. Maybe something like along the lines of Protean Hydra or Unbreathing Horde.
That's not a bad guess. Aside from Unbreathing Horde, the cards with that mechanic have all been white or green. The "Phantom" mechanic wasn't named last time it was used, but it was on white and green cards. It would be a semi-returning mechanic, since it wasn't named last time. (They might not do the phantom mechanic exactly, since in a world with good auras, the phantom mechanic proper might be a little too good.)
It seems legit.. It has some form of synergy with the Theros block's mechanics (monstrosity, Tribute, Ajani, Mentor of Heroes) and it's a bad enough rare to be not played in standard unless they really pushed it with the new cards for Khans.. Not sure of Undying as a returning mechanic since we just had it 3 years ago but stranger things have happened.. maybe something along the lines of Sunburst since this is a multicolored set?
Anyone manage to clarify the "One clan's mechanic will be a returning mechanic" hypothesis? I had a quick look at the SDCC-panel video last night but couldn't find anything from my quick browsing.
As I've said before, it wasn't clearly stated that there will be another returning mechanic. Either they deduced it from the question I mentioned in an earlier post or they put that question offline. There's no clear proof to this day.
I keep hearing that it's confirmed, but that seems to be false (since no one can point to where it was supposedly confirmed). Given that, the claim is probably not true; it always sounded odd that they'd give one clan a reprised mechanic, especially since they were so adamant about avoiding that with the RTR/GTC guilds.
I'm leaning towards calling it fake, too. It's never a good sign when we have both the artwork and the name, and then the card just happens to be leaked on the usual blurry photo. That, and the card itself raises some eyebrows.
Have the feeling this will go the way of alms beast where it's very close to playable just by raw stats but doesn't quite get there. Basically the same combined power, toughness and cost as arbor colossus but harder to cast, a worse ability, and no reach.
One of the downfalls of alms beast is that its cmc and stats are the same as desecration demon and they both black, but its drawback is just quite a bit worse (not strictly worse, you can actually block their best non evasive guy with the beast) but opponent gaining life when they chump or whatever instead of your guy getting bigger if they 'chump' with his ability, in a world without demon he might of had a chance

You know what, I stand corrected. Mark only said maybe to a question about whether morph was what was returning, so of course everyone on the thread jumped to the conclusion that there's another returning mechanic. I read several comments stating this so I believed it yet the video does not support it.
My theory about the Abzan mechanic is that it is the mechanic on Ajani's Pridemate keyworded. The common thread between G/W/B is lifegain and it has +1/+1 counters in the mechanic which would fit with this. The lifegain and the increasing power of creatures would fit the whole longer game idea too and also go with the idea of endurance.

Actually that would make a ton of sense, and is on colors, green for the seedborn muse effect, and white/black for lifegain matters.

If you look at the intro packs legal for sets legal in Standard, the only playable front rares are M14's Chandra's Phoenix, DGM's Exava and Ruric Thar, and JOU's Doomwake Giant. So yeah, 4 cards out of 40. That's a very bad track record.
The card's power level is about what I expect from an intro pack rare. I guess people are more worried about the power level of the set since we have yet to see a single card that is clearly going to see constructed play.
Personally, I'm more bummed that this card likely means my favourite clan is going to have a crappy +1/+1 counters mechanic. Just like another intro pack rare (Corpsejack Menace,) this card wouldn't make much sense otherwise.
When I look back and see the cool cards that came in intro packs, I feel like we've been getting ripped off the past couple of years. I forgot how cool Shards Block made intro packs...
A few things:
If this was fake, do you think they'd purposefully make it as bad as it is?
Also there is a great deal of power behind this card. Some people are comparing it to Alms Beast, but this card is way more powerful. There's no downside effect. It's just all upside. I'm not saying its necessarily super good, but I mean it doesn't have drawbacks... This is a limited threat for sure!
This has probably been said already, but this thing does say "Untap each creature you control with a +1/+1 counter." But doesn't say anything about the creatures having to be tapped or itself. So, It's a better representation of its effect: "During your opponents untap step, untap all creatures you control. Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control."
So, if you pass the turn, isn't this thing a 6/8? For 5? Isn't that good?
I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?

What? It doesn't put +1/+1 counters on anything to my knowledge.

Hello, citizen of 1994! I like your interpretation and this card with this text would have played like you are thinking, 20 years ago. But nowadays, the wording is meant to read as it says: it untaps anything with a +1/+1 counter already on it during each untap step. It can't add +1/+1 counters on its own. So, basically, it gives creatures you dump counters onto (like Polukranos) vigilance, and occasionally does shenanigans with cards like Gyre Sage in multiplayer.

You realize that KTK block will be a wedge-based block?
Not quite. As MaRo was adamant about at SDCC, Khans the set is wedge-based, but Khans the block is not.

That's because Abzan's full name is Abzan House, just like Jeskai Way, Sultai Brood, Mardu Horde, and Temur Frontier.

Umezawa's Jitte is also pretty good example.
Will 3-color even be a thing in the next standard? This, a card that gives counters, and Archetype of Finality could make a good combo.

Also, not sure what creature counters and deathtouch have that makes it so insane.
