The beauty of running a two or three color deck is that it doesn't matter if the card taps for two, three, or all five colors, as long as it provides all the colors you need. That said, Manalith would be good in any set where it can be printed since it's always useable in a multicolor deck, whereas admittedly Obelisk of Bant isn't of much use to a Jund deck.
On the other hand, if a given mana source supports every faction, then every player drafting will try to pick it, resulting in a fight for resources, whereas mana sources that support only certain color combinations will generally be picked only by players running those combinations. An additional benefit of giving each faction its own part of a mana source cycle is that you increase the average number of mana sources in the card pool. This same logic also provides us with the Signets, Keyrunes, and Cluestones.
Of course, that won't stop players from picking a mana source just so other players can't get it, but unless it's really that good a mana source that player's probably better off picking a threat or answer in the pack.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
No one should use block as a metric. It's one of the least accurate forms of measure.
Trilands now, Charms next? I don't mind doing without the Obelisks. I would rather have Borderposts (hint: they give devotion). If the Obelisks cantripped, then yes, sign me up.
Speaking of that, would we get to see an Obelisk of Tarkir???
I've desired the enemy borderposts in the past and I think they would make a great combination with scry lands in standard.

If they are exacly equal to the borderposts from alara, then they would not be good with scry lands....

When a sorcery is countered Does the damage go back to the original person who cast it?
I might ask this question in the rules forum instead.
