I've stated it before and I haven't changed my mind seeing the video: I won't be wasting 100$ on a product like this, too, not when 95% of it is junk (as far as money value is concerned) and I could buy the 4-5 singles I need (such as Jace's Counterspell and a couple of other utilities for less than 10$... Not to mention that building decks like Elves, Goblins or Chandra entirely to play them would cost only a few bucks...
Junk?
I didn't realize $300 worth of card value was "junk".
I already did a cost sheet on this card. The value you get in strict card worth is very high.
Unfortunately, it is local shops anyways, so we have another CA on our hands. Only winner here are the speculators and collectors. Players get shafted... again.
We all know that all this value is "false": 95% of the deck can surely be a 0.10 card each, but most players have all or most of them so you can take them as a 0.
I have just checked the prices of the singles on MKM (I'm Italian so that's the site I refer to most of the time). In Elves vs Goblins the most expensive card is Imperious Perfect, starting at 2.49 €, but you can buy the Lorwyn from 1.00 €; Jace vs Chandra has Ancestral Vision (3.20 €), Daze (2.00 €) and 2 Counterspells (1.55 €); Garruk vs Liliana has Liliana Vess (4.98 €, a much higher price than I expected because a couple of weeks ago it was about 2 €) and Garruk Wildspeaker (3.50 €), both of which can be bought for less than 2 € in another version; Divine vs Demonic has the only real pricy cards, Demonic Tutor (12.99 €) and Akroma, Angel of Wrath (6.49 €). Even leaving apart the "you-can-buy-them-in-a-less-pimped-version" speech, and the fact that some of these cards will lower their price when the box comes out, it's still less than 40$. Sure, we can give all the cards a much higher value looking at other sites even if we know that there are people selling them for much less, but I'm not going to do it just to justify why I'm gonna spend so much money on eight old (fun, but still old) decks that I could put up myself with my friends more or less for nothing...
I don't want to be unpolite with anyone, but the fact is that this price is far higher than a casual player could afford, and simply making a divided reprint of the four Duel Decks would have made a lot of people far happier...
Congrats, you found the cheapest possible site on the planet, without exception. Allow me to give you the midrange values across all registered cardshops:

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
You also get multiples of several of those (Counterspell, Promenade) plus around 70 other $1 cards. More like $220-280 depending on your area.
Yes Yes yes we get it you get your moneys worth. However the only reason those cards are so expensive is because the duel decks that make up anthology had such a short run. Akroma, Angel of Wrath would be a lot less if Divine vs Demonic had sold a lot more. Do you imagine expect zugos helmsmasher to go into the $20? No cause speed vs cunning and khans have massive print runs in comparison.
I really don't care about value what I care about is how they are playing this product up to be a great x mas buy or a chance for players to get hold of something they might have never gotten the first time due to numerous reasons. Yet the products pricing and the insane store allocation means no one is going to get hold of this. Ill be surprised if I manage to get 1 of these let alone 4.
Want to see other duel decks I made ? Check out my Blog ! Feel free to post advice or give topics for me to make duel decks out of. Check out the Theros Block Planeswalker Theme Duel Decks Elspeth, Xenagos, Ashok, Kiora, Ajani

I'm not disagreeing with the limited print being bad for players. Just saying the decks have more value than people think (a LOT more than the guy who said it was $40).
Also, the Akroma would still be $4-5 more than the original printing. That art is sexy, same for the Demonic Tutor.

In Europe cards are cheaper than in the USA. MKM is the site that most europeans use, so their prices to us aren't "cheapest possible site on the planet", just "normal prices". Here, the duel decks in singles have the price that Kingfede said, so i have the same opinion as him, it's too expensive.
So it's a lousy pickup in Europe. In the US, where my prices are correct, the level of value you're getting is fairly high.
Lousy pickup? YOUR (US} prices are correct? Somebody REALLY needs to get of his/her high horse here.
Anyway, since I have all DD that were issued except Elves vs. Goblins, I kind of hope that somebody around cracks this open for Demonic Tutor & co., and will be willing to sell me Elves vs. Goblins.

I think he meant that the prices he detailed here were correct, not that the US price is the correct one
Back on topic, the unboxing made me want one of these, and since i never bought the first Duel Decks, I might go for it.
The price is a bit of a hurdle though
Yeah, combined with the "lousy pickup", it was easy for me to read it wrong way. Sorry.

The prices of every single one of these 'money' cards in these sets are going to absolutely TANK, fyi.
If you think fancy packaging is a legitimate reason to collect these completely uncollectible (didn't say 'unplayable') cards...then good luck, I guess.
Complete waste of money. You can pick up any number of the pimp and useful cards for less than the cost of the set. The ripple effect of its release will dull other prices too. If you absolutely don't have any of the cards it is great but a good portion of players have at least some.
$100.00 for eight full decks, many of which with highly playable cards. Not a bad deal IMHO. It would be a nice present if each of the decks had a principle card that was redone in anime, like the Japanese version of Jace v.s. Chandra was. =)

I don't know about tank. These cards are in the newest card frame and will be mostly separate from their other printings. Also if it is as limited as people think then this probably won't do much of anything to the cost of a lot of the cards.
True. I'm just saying their is, like AT BEST, 1-2 cards that are truly inconvenient to acquire as of today. Demonic Tutor and, honestly, not much else. I guess you do have a reasonable point on limited quantities, assuming that's something they do a good job of sticking to. Maybe they will.
I just think a special edition reprint of sets that were themselves 100% reprints of cards that, frankly weren't that full of value to begin with, is gonna be some great investment vehicle.
Yes, it's exciting they are releasing these again for folks who missed them the first time. No, these are not good investments for turning a profit, boxes or singles. There are such opportunities in MtG; just not this particular product.
One question I DO have for the thread: Do these new ones have exactly the same expansion symbols as before are will they be differentiated from the originals in some way? (Will they even change the Copyright line at the card bottom?)

The last similar thing to this was Commander's Arsenal.
Cards in CA that went down in value:
Diao Chan
Cards in CA that went up:
EVERY OTHER CARD INCLUDING THE OTHER PORTAL 3K CARD
So... I wouldn't hold your breath on the value moving at all.

CA was full of relevant (except maybe Dragonlair Spider) EDH staples and Commanders, most of which had only been printed once in the past and never been printed in foil before. Also CA is quite different from the Duel Deck set in that it is a set of 18 single cards as opposed to being 8 preconstructed decks.
The boxed set does look very nice. I would consider it if it wasn't $100.

I'm assuming that the symbol's will be the same, but the card frame is going to be new new M15 frame.
just tossing my 2 cents into the price debate, doing some very rough figuring, looking at only the around(~)$1+ median cards on magiccards.info I came up with
I'm assuming a 25% drop in value which will still leave the value ~$150. Worst case scenario being a ~50% drop which would mean you get what you pay for... assuming WOTC doesn't print a a cargo ship worth anyway.
I gave Divine vs. Demonic to a friend as a gift a few weeks ago and got to watch his face light up in joy as he began learning the game. He's not a magic player but would like to get into the game.
This product isn't geared toward the hardcore gamer but I'm guessing the casual fan who would like nothing more than to pull out decks and play against each other at the kitchen table.
I'll get a box not for the value but to take to my friends' houses so we can play casual games without intimidating them with $3,000 worth of cards in one deck.

I used to keep a large collection of precon decks, starting back from Mercadian Masques to Time Spiral, for exactly this reason. Interestingly though, the Ravnica decks were the most popular.
Yeah, that limited print run sure makes this accessible to kitchen table players.
It's definately meant for collectors, speculators & to get a few more of these cards in circulation with the recent rise of popularity.
I started during M11 & missed everything before Elspeth vs. Tez, so it's perfect. There's a ton of people I know that are in the same boat, so $100 for 4 sets instead of it being the cost of just one is pretty sweet if you're looking to collect them.
Im probably just gonna buy them individually from ebay. I dont want them all just divine vs demonic.
The foil boxes look nice though.

First come the goblins. Hordes of them. But soon the ramp produced by xenagos attracts monstrous token-producing hydras. Towering over the battlefield, these 12-headed killing machines are protected 2 archetypes of endurance as they crash any resistence left
If most people feel that this is not a product they want, and that the product is overpriced, supply will exceed demand. I understand that collectors and speculators may try to corner the market, but as many in this thread are saying, this is a reprint of a reprint and LGS's may not order the full allotment. Players who pre-order this product they may well be able to get the product at MSRP unlike many other limited products.

So you spend $100 to get $100 worth of cards + a bunch of chaff.
I guess it's not a bad product for collectors and completionists.
