Seems like a strange choice unless they want to push Legacy again. He's fringe playable in Modern, and as has been said a bunch of times already, banned in EDH. Cool art and sure to be a popular card though, so I'm not complaining, I just don't really fully understand the choice.
Awesome art for one of the best cards ever printed... wonderful.

...Or unless they're determined to make Vintage not die. Griselbrand sees play in Vintage Oath variants.

I don't think the Griselbrand needed for Oath decks is the limiting factor in the growth of Vintage.
Griselbrand is like the most powerful creature ever printed when mana cost doesn't matter, seems like a reasonable reprint.

Evil is even, truth is an odd number, and death is a full stop.

Popular in kitchen table casual magic too I imagine.
"To realize that all your life—you know, all your love, all your hate, all your memory, all your pain—it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream. A dream that you had inside a locked room. A dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams there's a monster at the end of it."

Yeah I mean his ability has in the history of Magic always caused trouble. See Necropotence and Yawgmoth's Bargain. Putting it onto a 7/7 flyer with lifelink is certainly pretty good.
IMO is a filler promo GP card. Outside the US, EDH is not significant for the players.
I think WotC is giving too many EDH cards between Judge's Promo and now this one. Batterskull and the ones that came before were very good and playable GP cards, this is not...
This is so absurdly backwards that I'm actually laughing. (Not at you, but the hilarious circumstance.)
Griselbanned is Griselbanned in EDH and has been since just after his release. The fact that the card is still at 20-30$ should tell you that the assessment of it being unplayable is wrong. (Also, EDH has never contributed to a price tag that high outside of maybe Kukusho's.) If you're curious what it's actually playable in, it's a staple in reanimation and otherwise a reasonable choice in any deck that wouldn't be casting it. (Show and Tell, for instance.)
While you are correct about EDH having no impact on his current price tag (he's banned in the format), you are completely wrong about EDH effecting card prices. Doubling Season and Akroma's Memorial pre-reprint would like a word. Non-Emrakul Eldrazi would like a word. Sliver Legion, Avacyn, Kaalia, etc.
EDH definitely influences card prices.
It influences card prices certainly, but a better example of that are things like Duplicant and Mind's Eye. It's usually not much. (Also Kukusho dropped since I last checked I thought he was like 20)
Doubling Season and Memorial aren't worth as much because of EDH, they're worth that much because casual kitchen table magic in general. Doubling season isn't even that popular of an EDH card.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Doubling season is in almost every token and planeswalker deck that runs green. It's too good not to include. Also about EDH affecting prices, prime example : Forced Fruition. When Nekusar was spoiled it went from a quarter to around 7 bucks. It still sits there.
