when legacy enter, a lot of vintage players says that...
and nowadays legacy prices seems vintage prices at that time...
Many people actually capable of formulating complete sentences have said the same thing. Guess what? Legacy is still alive, and based on this announcement, doing better than Modern.
Remember how Modern becoming a thing increased the price of Legacy? Well that won't be as large of a factor anymore. So tell me, when Modern slowly reaches the price of Legacy - which according to you is reaching Vintage levels - why play the format? If you are going to use such logic(?) you cannot be so biased. Oh wait.....you're just wrong.
Nothing but sheer joy to me from this announcement.
This is a terrible decision. Especially with thoughtseize still being a card for the next year in standard. Who must we tweet or write to to tell them how horrible this is as a decision?
I'm absolutely ecstatic that Seattle gets a Legacy Grand Prix! This will almost certainly be the first GP I ever attend!

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
This isn't the end of the world for modern, prices won't crash just because there's one less major event a year. There will still be modern events that can qualify for the pro tour, and GPs mean there will still be a reason to follow and play the format. If prices do go down due to highly competitive players leaving the format, they'll quickly rise again as many players who currently want to play modern but can't afford it now buy up the excess supply. Legacy prices are still high yet there's no legacy Pro Tour either and far fewer legacy events. This could be wizard's way of making sure modern doesn't turn out like extended or block only played at a few large events.
... but isn't it completely possible that you would have four pro tours of the exact same decks? M15 has managed to shake up standard but the rest of the time it was the same decks from just after pro tour theros. That seems really pointless.
I get that the blocks don't change anything in modern because it is too big a format and block is a bit lame. But modern pro tour was always pretty interesting to watch. :S.
As a Wizard's apologist, this is a terrible move. Why play other formats. I would also guess that this means no Modern Masters 2 next year, maybe ever.
I am sure that they will eventually make an MM2. After all, it made them tons of money and we know what Wizards loves.
so boring that is T2 (at least today) living modern and legacy, what they have to do is reprint goyf, vendilions, fecht etcs ...
more times and in blocks.
Just saying that they really can't reprint V-Clique in Standard because flavor.
First of all, horrible decision, obviously money motivated. I love Modern and even block was okay, but standard can get stale. Things to remember: power level wise, Thesis was a lot lower than RTR, that is why standard barely changed over the course of Theros block, this likely won't be repeated. Modern prices won't fall, I know lots of people (myself included) who would love to snap up Modern staples if they fell, I say 10% drop maximum. As for Modern Masters 2, of course they will make it! Wizards can spend time and resources making another set (like Conspiracy) and sell it for $4 a pack, or they could put a bunch of reprints together and sell it for $8 a pack, not even a question. TL;DR this sucks, but its not the end of the world.

Something of note, May 30th-31st is listed as to be determined cities in three different continents, all Limited. Calling it now.... Modern Masters 2 events.

That actually is a decent theory.
Yes it is. I was going to reply that they would have to move their late Spring release from June to May, but that does explain why Louie is coming out a month earlier than normal.

The Pro Tour format decision is very disappointing. Standard is rarely an interesting format to follow and to make it worse it won't change much after each set release. I hope this is 2015 only, and will change in the future.

Good call, I'd say it's more likely than not.
To further support this theory just see how Modern constructed GPs are distributed - there's a long break from 11th Jan till June - just after those 3 "TBD" Limited ones there will be 3 Modern Constructed GPs, also 1 per continent!
Then Modern GPs continue at a steady rate in Season 4.
Pro tours have zero effect on the price or Wizards profit based on card sales. A pro tour being standard only effects prices of cards because pros tend to break them at pro tours for the first time. Modern isn't dead because of this, it died because of the lack of a PTQ Modern Season. Wizards barely stands to profit from whatever format the Pro Tour is, because 300-500 people for one tournament don't effect sales in the slightest.

The Pro Tour is a giant commercial for Magic. And they essentially just stopped advertising Big Macs and McNuggets and are all in on Fries.

I just don't see what they had to do this.
But will it make money with no Modern PTQs and no Modern PTs? I don't know how it will.

I'm not sure how the death of a format comes from the Pro Tour not doing Modern for one year, especially since next year has more modern GP's than last year (8 is greater than 6). The only thing the pro tour does is cause price spikes in cards as people go "OMG Mono-Blue Devotion is a COOL deck I need the cards!!!!" for instance after pro tour Theros.

It was the best limited format of all time. That is how it will.
It just blows my mind how people think no one cares about standard, just because they don't care about it. Modern is a far more intimidating format to a new player than standard and that's a fact.
I move way more standard cards in trade than anything else.
Just saying that they really can't reprint V-Clique in Standard because flavor.
Yeah they can, they printed a new Avacyn legend card in M15, so plane-specific legends are considered fine.
I, however, would not want to see Thoughtseize and Clique in Standard together (although in a different Standard I do not feel Clique would be oppressive).
I'm not saying that no one cares about standard, but locally, there is definitely a decline in the standard population. Like most standard events are dificult to fire off at 8 players right now.
I can't see how this or even the PPTQ changes would affect Modern prices to any serious extent. Granted, there's less hype, but that typically only causes temporary spikes in prices. So long as there are places to play Modern - GPs, the new SCG circuit, the occasional PPTQ - and Modern continues to be a format people like to play, singles prices will remain fairly stable (or increasing). Compare Legacy, a format supported almost entirely by SCG, or Vintage on MTGO, a format supported entirely by 8-mans, Dailies, and the occasional PE. It doesn't hurt that most Modern staples are also Legacy staples, either.

Kinda pissed though, I love watching modern
