Where is all this confidence in monored coming from? Am I missing something? Why couldn't they be reasonably balanced? (I hope they are, I plan on playing a few pentagram commander matches with these)
Well, as noted above, red is not great in EDH at the moment. Nor is it that great in EDH or multiplayer cubes. I think it's fairly well acknowledged that the card base could do with some rounding out in those areas.
The confidence in the monored deck is coming from the hope that WotC has heard this and understood it.
R Baltrice, I don't really like the idea of Jaya 2.0. Jeska would be another cool choice
Huh. Why didn't I think of that? She's a very good fit actually. A walker who's actually very prominent in the lore but still doesn't have a card. I feel like it's probably Jaya because she seems to have such a following, but I'd like to see a Baltrice card. Since everyone else is jumping off a bridge, I guess I'll make my own list of hopes. (Not expectations.)

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I would love to see Baltrice, I think she's awesome.
That being said, I doubt she'll be printed. Her relative obscurity aside, she simply isn't young & hot enough. Before everyone jumps on me, no, I don't think WOTC is sexist. But I
see no reason for them to go against the iron grip of marketing.

Simultaneously crushing dreams for both Baltrice andGrandmother Sengir in the black slot!
IDK, I'd like to think WotC Marketing is going to shun biases like that. But of course that's what I'd like to think (and it's been sadly proven wrong before in corporate life).
Given that I think that is likely to be a common response, I suspect it will be unlikely for WotC to make her(?) the red planeswalker.
Same here. But I can see them doing one Planeswalker/Legendary Creature in that category. Your first reaction is "Who is this guy?" but then you search about him and get to known some part of the story you didn't. So it is useful to bring back sutff they'd like to be known by most players. Teferi might bring that reaction to anyone that came after Time Spiral
Does the fact that Feldon uses artifacts increase the likelihood that Slobad could be our red planeswalker? I realize that Geralf and Teferi don't really share a theme but I really want a goblin walker.

Maro has confirmed that not necessarily all of the PWs are existing characters, so I think that at least two of them will be new characters.
W: Serra / Nahiri (I like the idea of both.) U: Teferi B: <new character> (Leshrac and Sifa have been named but I'm pretty sure Sifa is RB and Leshrac seems a bit too obscure. Also B is really in need of new characters. The only mono B character right now is Liliana.) R: Jaya / Baltrice (I'm leaning more toward Baltrice on this one because Chandra was based on Jaya. It might me too difficult to make Jaya different enough from Chandra. But then again, Baltrice seems just as obscure as Leshrac, so who knows.) G: <new character> (A lot of people keep saying Frayalise, but she's just as R as she is G. She started out R and picked up G later. I don't think it would make any sense for her to have dropped R completely, seeing as how it's always been a part of her identity. Also G is just as in need of new characters as B. The only mono G character now is Nissa.)
People keep trying to shoot down Jaya because she's too similar to Chandra,
and I don't really get the logic in that.
If these were new Standard Planeswalkers, that would definitely be a concern,
but there's a *really* good chance this will be the only PW card Jaya ever gets,
so it isn't really that bad if she feels like "Super Chandra".
Save the new PW design space for characters that can actually be reused.

Talking about the planeswalkers "Three are characters you'll recognize from Magic's past, one is a character you know but maybe not by name, and one is a brand-new character but from a plane you've seen before."
The planeswalkers are not characters that already have a planeswalker card
Planeswalkers should be better at protecting themselves from multiple opponents
There's a lieutenant cycle
Double-sided tokens!
The line "one is a character you know but maybe not by name" really makes me think Nahiri (mostly known as "The Lithomancer") is the white planeswalker.
The line "one is a character you know but maybe not by name" really makes me think Nahiri (mostly known as "The Lithomancer") is the white planeswalker.
That's the conclusion I drew as well, but it just doesn't make sense for a couple of reasons-
1- isn't Nahiri needed in the main storyline?
2- I'm not even a huge fan of Serra but was hoping she would get a card. How much would this suck for all the people who *really* wanted Serra (and there seems to be a decent amount of those)?
And just a wild stab here, but I'll guess that the "new one from a place we've seen before" is a Black, Zombie-related PW from Innistrad.

I thought of your first point too, but she is not exactly involved in the current storyline, at least not yet. So maybe that gives her a free pass over the other current planeswalkers.
As for Serra... While I am more excited for Nahiri as a character, I would prefer to see Serra since this is pretty much her only chance to see print. But who knows, maybe there is another planeswalker that fits the bill of "a character you know but maybe not by name".
lolwut? Leshrac had a prominent role in multiple storylines and has been mentioned on several cards. If he's obscure now it's only because he's a pre-Mending planeswalker and was killed in the Time Spiral story, he certainly wasn't obscure back in the day.
G: <new character> (A lot of people keep saying Frayalise, but she's just as R as she is G. She started out R and picked up G later. Freyalise has consistently been presented in association with green and only green. I mean, yes, red is an element of her backstory, but I don't think its absence on a hypothetical card will prevent that card from seeing print, any more than non-red Ajanis are impossible. Just as the neowalkers can be and are presented as different colour arrangements on different cards, so too can Freyalise. Red is not nearly as fundamental to her character as people are making out.

On Leshrac, fair enough. I wasn't playing back then so I dunno.
On Freyalise, I only know what I've read on wikipedia about her, so you probably have a better idea of how appropriate her lack of red would be. Still, I feel like having her without red would be like Ajani without white or Sorin without black.
Actually, i never read Freyalise's wiki and i always assumed she was mono green, because all the cards associated with her are green. And most players probably never read the wiki too and only know about her from cards.

I suggest you look more deeply than wikipedia, then. Freyalise does have a connection to red but it is much weaker than her connection to green. A green/red Freyalise would make sense, but a mono-green Freyalise would also make sense.
