SDCC last year was July 18-21. The planeswalkers appeared on HasbroToyShop on July 24 in the mid-afternoon (~4:00PM EDT) and were gone within about 6 or 7 minutes.
You will want to have a HTS account already created well beforehand, otherwise you may get lost in registration hell and have your cart contents sniped by other people that have previously registered.

Are you saying that you can buy the planeswalker set on the hasbro website?

As long as you pray to the patron saint of finance, sacrifice a goat or a sheep, and auto-refresh every 3 seconds at exactly the right time, then yes.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
After the convention is over, the pack (and all other Hasbro SDCC exclusives) will show up there. The problem is there's no way over knowing exactly when it'll get put up. Evidently the three day wait last year was longer than usual - many people on other forums expressed frustration about the delay. All you can do is camp that site, refresh every three seconds or so, and hope it goes live at a good time for you.
Hey all, just wondering what day the MTG panel is, and if anybody will be there to give us updates on the new stuff?
Saturday. There will inevitably be someone there to update us with minute-to-minute information, which will then be fleshed out when the entire panel is posted online a week or so later. You can check last year's thread for an example. I vividly remember refreshing it nonstop on my phone, while the girlfriend tried on dresses at some fancy boutique in SoHo, because the entire store stopped and stared at me when I squealed like a 13 year old girl at the announcement of JtMS in FtV: 20.
I will be there and will try to upload pics to the forums but im sure there will be tons of dedicated bloggers that will be updating in real time on their laptops during the panel.
I think WotC is loosing a huge way to gain more money with those ... why not sell them as a premiun product in each store as well? make this like Commander Arsenal that you can buy at a local store and in Comic Con ? They could go futher and make something like premiun planeswalkers box with one off of each walker (character)( with diferent artwork for each) something like a box with:
It's kind of sad, Wotc has been steadily reducing their GenCon presence over the past couple years. GenCon is the premier convention for rpg/board/card gaming in the US. Yet, WotC provides pretty much no support for it.
Yeah. GenCon is my only real con of the year, so my big time for buying new stuff includes zero Magic or D&D.
From what I heard, they're planning on "replicating last year's successful approach" which was so successful I spent four days at the con and didn't know they were doing anything until the following spring.
On the bright side, their new approach saves me money every year

Ayyup. I was excited to do whatever they were planning for the 20th anniversary last year. Then it turned out that was... nothing. So I did nothing! Instead I played a bunch of other games, and didn't spend any money on Magic.
If they replicate last years "succesfull" approach, I will jsut get to play even more doomtown. Which is a good thing, I guess.

I am the same way at GenCon, I spend so much time and money of MTG during the year that I ignore it at GenCon. Don't even take my magic stuff with me, there are just to many other new games and stuff to try out. Plus this year I am working the Con some so even less time to sling cards.
I hope the questions fans ask this year are more into what Wizards should and and not whats coming soon. I'd rather someone ask Wizards to make supplemental products that give old characters cards (Urza & Freyalise) rather than here them say "No comment but we are so excited!". They won't tell us much, they barely told us anything from the last comic con on Theros.
I would love for this to be the case as well, but realistically speaking, the purpose of this panel is to provide us with as little information as possible, while still satiating us until the next spoiler season, and building hype for upcoming products. I can't blame the audience for getting caught up in the moment and squandering their opportunities on questions they know won't actually be answered with anything more than a coy smile.
Just saw that last year they were were in line at 4am but they guy is doing me a favor can't yell at him for his time. Maro said they were supposed to have a lot more and a 1 per person limit so really confused myself.

It may be that they limited the number sold per day - it's not uncommon.

And I'm planning on going just because Weird Al's going to be there. Who cares about Magic when I'm looking at my hero, Cheese Sandwich!
I do still really want that Axe though.

$110.99, according to the link in the first post. Last year the boxes were $59.99, IIRC.

And so begins my annual trolling of the Hasbro website......

That truly sums up the panel. Time wasting excitement.

11:30am seems a bit early to sell out. Plus 6am is way too late to try to line up for Hasbro. I will swing by the booth to confirm in a bit.
