hope this doesn't sound too mercenary but would the artists signature increase the value of a set like this or should it be kept sealed if you plan to sell it and buy foil versions of the planeswalkers?
i've always found it weird that there is a sub section of players who "don't get these." I bring them up from time to time and usually some player in the room will be like, "What exactly are those again?" and I'll explain it, and just get stared at. And there's the players whoa re like "why would you want these?" For such a mentally engaging game it sometimes attracts some very obtuse people.
Edit: Added pics and I wonder if prices will be outrageous like last years as last year it was Hasbro's quickest selling item last year with them going through the entire con's reserves early Friday morning.
Am I going to be able to order this in Europe without people screaming that I'm "entitled"? (people who say that deserve to shampoo Yawgmoth's crotch for eternity.)
Go cry on your full art mutavaults that no one outside of Europe was able to get. Or if you're Asian, your APAC lands.
Different regions of the world sometimes get different promos. That's life.
I'm sure you can buy them from someone on the secondary market afterwards anyway.
You do realize that APAC lands came out 15 years ago right? The only other Asia specific promo I can think of are the guild lands from the original Ravnica release. I guess you could count the original anime Japanese Jace v. Chandra but only slightly because those were available without huge markup. Mutavault was 6 years ago now. They don't seem to have a vested interest in pushing these kinds of things outside of the US anymore. You can always buy from the secondary market but paying 10x (or more) is a bit ridiculous.
Did anyone read the part of the article where they say:
"Following the convention, a limited number of NERF/Magic the Gathering sets will be available on HasbroToyShop.com."
I don't know what a "limited" number is, but it would seem that you don't have to attend SDCC to obtain these.
Yup, I managed to get lucky and snag a set on Hasbro's toy shop site and I can tell you from experience these things flew. By the time I had put it in my shopping cart and purchased it and went back to the product page they were already sold out.
Noooo!! And I just need three of them this time (Nissa, Chandra and Liliana) even if the artwork is not nice, though; my store credit will take a big hit

I'm pretty sure a couple went up on the site last year and were sold out in the blink of an eye.
They were about $60/65 (ish) last year, they went up at Midday PST( I forget the day, but it was approx. 1-2 weeks after SDCC if I remember correctly) I was camped on the website in the intervening period fairly consistently and they had a 2-per-cart limit.
the delay was for managing inventory returns after SDCC to ensure they had the correct number available on the website if memory serves their comments as to delay in appending to Hasbro Toy Store.
I got my order confirmation within 5 minutes of seeing it refresh, 5 minutes later, they were gone.
I'd advise anyone who wants a copy of this and isn't going to SDCC to make an account with the Hasbro Toy Store, pre-load all credit card info delivery address info etc prior to them going up on the website and keep tabs on threads both here, and elsewhere on the internet as well as having the toy store on refresh. Speed of transaction is key, just because it's in your cart means nothing until transaction is closed.
If they do what they did last year they may have several waves of release on the web-store.
They claimed the 2 per cart and customer limit would be strictly enforced, and that they would cancel down any orders violating this, as I only ordered 1 on one card and didn't try for multiples I don't know how they followed through on this (as after I got my order confirmation I stopped looking!)
Based on Maro's comments on Blogatog I'd expect their webstore cart limit to go down to 1, but that's just speculation on my part.
FYI Canadian based potential buyers, shipping last year was approximately $40, and I'd expect it to be more this year if the axe is included on the webstore product.
...Good luck to anyone trying to snag themselves a copy! (hope any of the above was useful to you all!)
"Based on feedback from last year to help ensure more players are able to get a chance at the exclusive, we have printed more of them and are limiting then to one per person."
Wow, this will definitely help a bit with the craziness at the convention. Ouch for the scalpers though. This will put a good dent in this profits. Even with the increased amount, I'm sure this will still fetch a decent amount on eBay.
At least wizards has started to get better at dealing with scalpers. I really have no problem with limited and special event items when they are distributed fairly and controlled in a way that the people who love the franchise do not get exploited.
On another note I am just short of bouncing off the walls for the reveal of the next set. We have barely any clues as to what it will be with the exception of what we have collected.
I know some people going to SDCC this year, but that price tag's a bit too steep for me, especially considering I only want one of the promos and none of the axes...
I was hoping not to have to go through this again this year. I was lucky enough to get them last year off the hasbro site, but just barely so. My planeswalker collection demands these. I just hope they increase the availability and limit it to one per person to con-goers so they don't sell out again within the first day.
I think that WotC should at least make these an annual convention exclusive so that people on both coasts can get them. Release them at SDCC, NYCC, GenCon, PAX, etc. These items should not have a 500-1000% markup out of the gate.
Anyway glad they at least tried to fix this.

Would have been nice for those of us that don't live in the West coast to have access to these...
Well, you guys do get to make fun of Americans constantly, so there is that. After all the comments on Youtube, I feel justified.

Maybe try and find another forum that has something going on at SDCC that's not magic?

Luckly Chandra'll be cheaper this time
