Downloading it at the moment, somewhat suspicious considering last year the gimmick was "Sealed deck! With an awful pool of cards! Oh, you can't delete your sealed pools once you open them and we charge you for extra slots!" and this year the gimmick is build your own deck, and they are selling booster packs.
Maybe they are trying to get you more used to the high cost of MTGO at the get go, lol.
All I want is another Shandalar type game, you know roam around fight enemies, get cards and build my deck
And this is why I dislike MTGO and prefer Heartstone for the card unlocking mechanic. When I downloaded HS, I bought 12.00$ worth of pack (around what it cost for real card intro pack). 12.00$ was in my opinion worth it for that kind of game, it's what I am ready to pay for a arcade kind of game. I would never pay 60.00$ or more for virtual card.
When I am looking at DotP. I am ok to pay 10.00$ for the software. But I would never buy any key or foil unlocking thing they sell... It's just virtual gimmick that you can't hold in your hand. But hey... there is always people ready to waste more money. So now we have plenty of incomplete game with a bunch o DLC every where. How to ruin the video game industry.
So there are NO rumors it will be available on PS3 in months to come?

Are those collection unlockable in any other way in game? or do you have to buy them? If not, this is already 25$ that should be already accessible with the 10$ you spend to buy the game.
Wizards habits to release 5+ expansion at 4-5$ = 20-25$ additional. It's 20$ of content that should already be in the game.
It was said earlier by shinquickman that you could buy 2$ promo booster, I don't know if those are required for the game or if they are included in the collection pack... but assuming those are totality different thing, it's easy to bet that you will need to spend an additional 20 to 50$ to complete your collection of card.
So am I wrong to say you'll have to spend 100$ for a game that should be 10$?
As I understand it you don't need to buy the planes to unlock them, paying just unlocks all the cards all the cards for that plane right now rather than by winning. The only thing you can't get with your initial $10 is the cards in the premium boosters (and maybe the foil stickers, but seriously who cares about them?).
^What bigevildan said. The plane-specific cards are unlockable either 1. in-game through grinding, or 2. buying it. The premium cards, however, are only unlockable by purchasing premium boosters for $1.99 each. A completionist would have to buy 15 premium boosters to get every card available, which is just waaaay too much. Last year, the whole game + expansions + extra decks cost $24. This year, Stainless is asking for $40 BEFORE any expansions.
I spent 10$ on steam to pre-order it. That is the most I will play for a "Duels of the Planeswalker" game. Oh yeah I could spend 30$ for the complete bundle which gives me access to all the planes and cards, but that is absolutely boring. I stand by 10$ purchase as being the more fun and economical version.
What are those premium boosters? Same card that you could unlock in game but with alternative art foil? If so, it's useless. If it's card that aren't normally obtainable, then it's worst. Say they are randomized (which they probably are) you might end up paying for more than 15 booster to get every card (unless you can't get card you already obtained).
I don't get it... No trade possible. No way to make money from selling card. No world-wide tournament. Why can't that game be complete for the initial 10.00$???
Again... viva DLC i micro-transactiona. (yes it's probably the worst Italian + Spanish + English try-combo ever)
Premium cards are not just some aesthetic effect plopped on cards you can get through playthrough. Premium cards are exclusive cards that are only obtainable through premium boosters, which in turn are only obtainable through purchase.
Sad.... well I will enjoy de basic game and story and that's it. Way to limit a game potential with locking up card to get a bit more money from some sheep....
Honestly you guys are being pretty unrealistic here-- it's a different game than previous years, and I think the payment model is reasonable. It also lives up to what you pay for-- this is easily the best DOTP yet in terms of interface. It looks great and plays fast, no bugs so far for me.
DOTP has always been a great entry-point for new players, and having this on iPad is great for me to play casually. I knew it'd be kind of expensive, it's always been in a niche realm of not quite being AAA or indie as well as not being F2P and completely micro-transaction based. The fact that you can buy the bundle up front instead of milking you for every single booster pack tells me they want it to be more than just a cash grab. Come to think of it, this is way more up front than the BS "sealed deck slots" IMO.
Anyway, it's not perfect, but it appears to actually be pretty big game, and I'm looking forward to getting what I can out of it. Lord knows having a functional, modern way to play magic (albeit not real magic) online is a damn good thing.
I don't have enough blind loyalty to Wizards to throw away my money to dumb microtransactions. To make matters worse the promos are pretty bad this year. Definitely a pass.
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
Does that about sum things up?

What about the Steam/Console redeemable-code promo cards/packs?
They figured if you own an Apple product that you already like paying more for less.

It's $30 to unlock everything isn't it? Or am I missing something?
