Was it actually confirmed via a picture that we're getting Hornet Queen? The autocard is just showing spoiler text with no picture and it kind of seems odd to have two green 'hornet' rares in the same set that both make the same token.
It makes sense to make more use out of the tokens you are putting into card packs. Only having 1 card make a token is less efficient use of resources.
I guess, but that's not how it works 99% of the time. Usually in any given set there is one specific card that makes one specific token. If there are multiple cards in a set that make the same token, the tokens usually have different art (Theros, for example).

Feel like there should be an infinite damage/creature combo here. Def outside of standard, but anything in standard?
None that I can see. I thought I was onto something with Ivy Lane Denizen and Burning Anger, but I can't find a way to untap it.
I suppose if you have 2 Boros Reckoners, Dictate of the Twin Gods and some way to make them indestructible thats something. But if you're already dealing infinite damage why bother?
I don't really see this a "violation of the color pie" as some overly dramatic people seem to want to put it. It feels more like a realignment/restoration - returning to green the ability to occasionally get fliers (provided they are small and possibly token and/or insect related) something that green had historically but was taken away from it.
I'm actually pretty happy with the move I feel that all colors should have access to fliers in at least some limited way - White, Blue and Black obviously get the "kings share" with fliers at every level of the curve and covering all rarities. But red having occasional (mainly high rarity) mid-large size/cost fliers like phoenix/dragons and green having occasional (mainly high rarity) small-mid size fliers like insects feels like a fair move.
Great, great flavor. Really would like to use Pariah or Pariah's Shield with this. For standard, maybe Acolyte's Reward as a trick to save another creature? Redirect from your critter to the nest, explosion of hornets ensues

Doh, a bit of a flavour fail! Which is always a bad thing, but especially bad on a card where the flavour is the entire thing.
The concept is that it's not a creature until something hits it.... then it spills out a bunch of creatures (hornets). But for it to work, it has to be able to block, so it has to be a creature. And since it's a creature, it has to have a creature type. And since there is no "nest" or "hive" creature type..... they had to make it an Insect. What kind of Insect is it, I wonder? A hornet, perhaps? The nest is a hornet? Hmmmm. Oh well, close enough? Hehe.

There's no flavor fail. The insects are inside the nest, thus the insect type. You're summoning the nest and the insects. Just like how a Ship filled with Pirates is a Human.

Ok, well that's all I wanted to know.
Not really, the Queen is in the spoilers since the mothership get a facelift
That day a link that does not work now (you dont have permision to acess) showed some decks (the intro decks I think) and various spoilers come from there, like the queen
I somehow find it tragic when an attacking Traveling Philosopher gets blocked by another Traveling Philosopher, which normally results in two dead philosophers. Shouldn't they just sit aside and start discussing?
"This is really exciting, so much to find out about, so much to look forward to, I'm quite dizzy with anticipation . . . Or is it the wind? There really is a lot of that now, isn't there? And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming toward me very fast? Very, very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide-sounding name like . . . ow . . . ound . . . round . . . ground! That's it! That's a good name- ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me? Hello Ground!"
Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the Sprouting Phytohydra as it fell was Oh no, not again.
Where's Gladecover Scout? Oh right! They wasted that spot with an useless rare!
Okay, there's so much that's just plain wrong about what you just said that I'm half convinced it was sarcasm. However, since your statement is indicative of a mindset a lot of Magic players seem to have, I'll take it seriously.
First and most importantly NOT EVERY RARE CAN BE CONSTRUCTED PLAYABLE.
Nor should they. Magic already has major noticeable power creep. The game needs some "bad" cards simply so that the good ones remain good. MaRo wrote a coupleof articles on the subject that are well worth a read. We're lucky that this particular rare is at least funny and will probably see some play on kitchen tables.
Secondly: Gladecover Scout? Gladecover Scout?! GLADECOVER SCOUT?!
Yeah, I like hexproof too but are you honestly saying that a french-vanilla 1/1 that was printed at common a year ago should be rare?
This violates the color pie the same way Hornet Queen, Giant Dustwasp, Caustic Wasps, Bayou Dragonfly, Cockatrice, Faerie Noble, Flailing Drake, Giant Caterpillar, Hawkeater Moth, Ifh-Biff Efreet, Jugan-the Rising Star, Killer Bees, Kyscu Drake, Locust Swarm, Mindbender Spores, Moon Sprite, Pixie Queen, Scryb Ranger, Scryb Sprites, Uktabi Drake, Uktabi Faerie, Unyaro Bees, Venomous Dragonfly, Willow Faerie, and Xantid swarm violate the color pie.
To be fair, quite a few of those are from much earlier in magic's history, before they had the whole "green doesn't get flyers" solidified. Of the more recent examples, most are from Time Spiral block and were either callbacks to earlier cards, or from planar chaos, which has never counted for color pie arguments. That isn't to say that it's not possible for small flying token production to be part of green's color pie, but the examples you list aren't exactly indicative of modern color pie positions.
What I'm getting at is that it IS in Greens part of the color pie to get flying. Very rarely, AND if you haven't noticed usually tied to Creature Type-Insect. Following these rules it is safe to say this card doesn't violate the color pie at all.

While I agree with what you're saying, he was unhappy that Gladecover Scout has had its only available spot taken in the number crunch, not that he wanted it to be rare.

And what I'm getting at is that one card in the past seven years does not a strong color pie argument make, especially in a supplemental product with several other color pie violations (Chaos Warp, for example). That said, given that they're reprinting Hornet Queen in this set, it's entirely possible the color pie has shifted to allow small fliers in green, but a seven year gap is typically there for a reason. Or it could just mean that Aaron really likes Hornets, as he pointed out in his tweet, and thus is willing to bend the pie for them, rather than an overall shift in policy.

I 100% agree. Yeah, the flavor is really cool, but this card is horrendous as rare.
