Nissa's very difficult for me to gauge. On one hand the first two abilities are pretty strong. Ramping up to her turn 3 and using the first ability is like having a Koth effect a turn earlier than Koth. So I could see her seeing play in Standard honestly for that reason, and also for the 2nd ability.
Interestingly, in Magical Christmas Land EDH you could run her and Terra Eternal just to make sure your lands don't get wrathed after ult. She seems to have potential, I just don't know what that is quite yet.
I completely misunderstood about the creatures with off-color activations, I thought it was supposed to be enemy pairing (like a black creature with white ability).
Oh well, nissa seems pretty interesting.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
Man this cycle is kind-of lame. The elf is okay and the plant is okay (the activated ability doesn't take your entire turn away) but the rest are just way too overcosted limited fodder.
Nissa is super boring. Would have preferred she just made elf tokens.
Are people really surprised that the uncommon cycle designed for limited game play is only good.... in limited
I love nissa, and want to play her in competitive Modern, but right now all I can think of building with her is GU(x) casual superfriends with like 8 green shocks and 8 original forest dual lands (obv on cockatrice) with garruk 1 and 2, tamiyo, jace 4 (maybe 5 if hes sick too), clockspinning, some land and aura ramp, and splashing something for removal...possibly white for wraths and gideon and elspeths

Thanks to Rivenor for the signature and XenoNinja for the Avi!
Nissa is exactly what Jund in Standard needed: A way to ensure you'd never have any dead draws for the rest of the game, plus the ability to do very unfair things every now and then.
Unfair things like... oh... cast Rakdos's Return for 6 or 7 the turn after you play her. That's pretty much game right there.

I don't know, with the last cycle Flinthoof Boar wasn't exactly limited fodder.
I dont see the problem with Nissa, shes great all around - First of all, without even going into gameplay, her name and art are great and have alot of flavor. I mean look at that Hedron in the background too! She has two +1 abilitys which is great too, and alot of times you are probably going to be playing that second one first instead of the first since you'll be using most of your lands. That way you can still get a dude out that turn from your hand to protect her, assuming you have nothing. The next turn, you can do either, which is great. Her ultimate ability is simply a blowout if you can make it to the next turn without them all dieing, and most likely, you will be able too. Not EVERYONE plays Supreme Verdict.
Her posture indicates she is about to hurl a spear or javelin, and is mid-stride in the run-up to when it gets released. Watch a few videos of world-champ level players and you'll recognise it easier. Here is a compilation video I found on youtube as an example.
The cycle seems to heavily gear towards the mid to late game. We could get long, battlecruiser magic.... wait for it... wait for it... in Khans of Tarkir. So these uncommon cycle are a precursor or teaching tools for newer players on how to use a good mana sinks. I believe we'll get more of them mana sinks in KoT.
Most if not all of them are 1st picks. But not very exciting outside of limited. Maybe the Elf.

I would totally understand that pose IF the object in her hands would have been a spear/javelin. One does not simply throw away a staff...

But no matter the pose, still loving her.
What I can see of the object, it does appear to taper down as it gets past her shoulder and towards her hand. I don't think it is a staff, because I have yet to see anyone capable of effectively wielding it for any purpose from that position.
It might be a bit of a stretch, but what we have is here could well be a new superfriends deck consisting of Nissa, Ajani(s) and Elspeth. This deck would also have access to Banishing Light, Caryatid-Courser ramp. That alone should make it something to dwell on.

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.
Many thanks to HotP Studios. Special thanks to DNC for this great sig.
I think I'd like to play around with that Travis Woo green money deck that gets off a Ulamog ultimate quickly. It used a Garruk before. Maybe Nissa would be even better, or perhaps just a a good complement. That deck only used Forests for lands anyway! Although, I did make my own variant as well, a funny G/R version that tries to cast Worldfire with a Keldon Marauders or a Thragtusk on board, or a suspended Rift Bolt... Boseiju was in there to make sure Worldfire wasn't countered. It was a funny way to win the game, because at the time the Woo deck was kind of popular and people were expecting me to go for an Eldrazi blowout, when they saw the Worldfire they were like "Huh. That was unexpected." It worked sometimes, but wasn't as consistent as Woo's version.
Nissa is bad and will pre-order for $40. Sorry but she's just meh against almost everything.
$40 is way to high. I really hope no one tries to demand that price for her. I like her a lot, she seems pretty good but not $40 good.
If you're worried about it going to $40, you could pre-order early and get her for $20 at CoolStuffInc right now.
I pre-ordered my Brimaz, Kind of Oreskos's from them as soon as it was spoiled, for $18 a piece. Not a bad deal considering that at release it was going for $30. it's still close to an $18 card. I also pre-ordered a couple other cards that I lost money on by the time they released, though. That tends to happen way more often.
Wow when M15 comes out there will have been 5 Jaces, 5 Ajanis, 5 Garruks, 4 Chandras and 3 Lilianas. Its time to give other planeswalkers some new iterations :/

"I don't need to have the perfect plan. My foe just has to have an imperfect one."
There is something ironic about using Nissa to summon Ulamog.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

Nissa is great, but her art... not so much. Seems like it should be slid over to the right so we can see her hands properly.

WotC, please hire me already.
Check out Nissa Revane, and this. She always had her staff. Although her latest picture may represent her trying to cast a spell or force an action.
Do agree the posture is odd. It's more about showing her belly more than anything else.
