Or, you know, that Garruk won't be in the set at all.
They have him as the face, you can duel him in this form, and there is no need to have him as a new walker card. We had that already with Bolas once, why repeat it?

I strongly disagree with this. They aren't going to build hype around a 'walker and then not give us an actual card that can be put into decks. This is the Xenagos Ascended to Xenagos, God of Revels.
The "play as Garruk" idea is innovative... I do hope the real Garruk is a better card than that... playing as Garruk feels so... boring. It would be better if you can play your deck AND be Garruk.
On the other hand, I like the "photo w/ Garruk" promo that can be uploaded. WotC is really getting out there in left field & it's a good thing.
And is it just me, or does the portrait of Garruk make him look like a bad WWF "bad guy" from the 80's?
Not sure if iot belongs here or in speculation but I just wanted to list the things we know from Forsythe's article
We added a cycle of legendary creatures, many of which are key players in the story (including some familiar faces). There haven't been legendary creatures in the core set since M13's very successful cycle—which included Krenko, Mob Boss and Talrand, Sky Summoner—and I'm excited to see this year's batch in Standard, Commander, and wherever else you decide to try them.
No bad. I wonder how many of them are really commander only cards
For extra story-filled goodness, we've also included a certain legendary mythic rare artifact that has had a role in making Garruk the man he is today. Stay tuned to Uncharted Realms for that one.
Chain Veil as an actual artifact? maybe with black mana as opposite to Godsend?
"Kird Apes"
Another key invention of Doug Beyer's M13 design team was the cycle of uncommon creatures that powered up off of different land types, most notably Flinthoof Boar. We called them the "Kird Ape" cycle internally, as a nod to the famous Arabian Nights creature they were based on, and for M15 we decided to bring them back, going the other way around the wheel (so the red one powers up off of Forests, etc.). These powerhouses make for great rewards in Limited and reward "splashing" in very satisfying ways.
So Red with Forest, Green with Plains, White with Islands, Blue with Swamps, and Black with Mountains.
The enemy color pairs have a bit more character, and focus more around specific card combinations or overt build-arounds. Blue-red, for instance, focuses on artifacts and cards like Shrapnel Blast that need artifacts around to work correctly. Black-green is centered on the graveyard and rewards you for having lots of stuff die.
So there will be more blue/red affects artifact cards which is slightly annoying as the izzet decks currently revolve around instants and sorceries.
Or, you know, that Garruk won't be in the set at all.

Return to the Ranks is a bin rare. A weenie strategy that asks you to commit even more is crap. Will elves splash for it? I doubt so.
I hope soo...
but you know having a way to start all over again in a format that has elves , decks that uses birds op and noble hierach, afinity, soul sisters, weenies and others is huge...
hope you are right and i can get a playset for less than $4.00 ... ( I know i wont , but :\)
I think Return to the Ranks has the potential to be pretty good, just not as any sort of huge blowout. With a few token-generating support cards in addition to a primarily traditional-creature focused spell base it should actually be a decent option for recovering from a board wipe. Dudes like Doomed Traveler would be sweet, in particular.
Most interesting for me is the "familiar faces" comment regarding the new legendary creature cycle. Returning characters with new cards? First-timers on cards that we know of vaguely from story or flavor text? Plane-restricted or not, given that Garruk is hunting across many planes?

Contraption is a new artifact type. There are currently no artifacts with this type. And there's no current game meaning of "assemble."
Oh goody, more "Slivers". I'm reminded of the scene from The Simpsons where someone's kicking a guy on the floor and a kid watching it cries "Stop it, he's already dead."
On the plus side, this could be another chance for the Slivers-in-name-only to be so poorly received that Wizards might just get it through their thick skulls that something that doesn't boost Slivers regardless of who controls them can never be considered a true Sliver. (Fat chance though, with the crap we let them get away with these last few years. )

Leslak: Don't worry it's gonna be a fun and casual card for the likes of you. I seriously don't see this hitting in constructed anytime soon. 2cmc and under means you're underpowering your deck by alot. And the only good deck that's has so many 2drops or under is Boss Sligh.
Explains Garruk, but I admit I'm confused. at the prerelease does one person automatically not play their deck and just play as Garruk? cause that would kinda suck.
The Garruk oversized Planeswalker card seems kind of pointless - does this mean the player that's playing with the Garruk card won't be playing with his or her M15 pool at all? Where's the fun in that?
A lot of misunderstanding going on here. It is simply a bonus activity to do at the prerelease, like the ones for Theros block (hydra, horde, xenagos). It is completely separate and optional, it isn't the prerelease event itself. No, you're not gonna get screwed out of playing your sealed deck by playing as Garruk in a side event. It's just something extra and fun to do on the side.
Return to the Ranks is a bin rare. A weenie strategy that asks you to commit even more is crap.
it doesn't "ask you to commit more" than you would normally be doing in the type of deck you would play it in. it is simply a recovery spell. think of the Junk Rites decks from a few standards ago that played Unburial Rites as a value card instead of explicitly trying to set up a reanimation of an overcosted fatty. It was basically a deck of midrange value creatures with Rites serving as a recovery tool. This card is basically similar except meant for a weenie strategy/deck with a low curve. You would naturally be playing lots of low cost dudes in said deck. This simply helps you gain lots of value and recover from removal or a sweeper. whereas something like a blue/green deck would use card draw to recover from a lost board, white generally doesn't get that luxury. So cards like this take the place of card draw by potentially recovering several spent cards with one spell. you don't have to overextend to use it. but it helps you recover when you have been punished for overextending or simply when the game has gone long.
i think it could be pretty awesome in something like Soul Sisters, Martyr Proc, D&T, or simply W/x weenie.
nobody said that...other than people simply speculating or jumping to conclusions prematurely (but that's nothing out of teh ordinary around here). nobody officially said that.
i suppose it's a possibility, but it would be pretty strange for them to hype up Garruk in this set so much and use him for all the adverts and publicity and to have him not even be in the set outside of a prerelease gimmick.
Soul of Shandalar is not very evocative of what we saw of Shandalar so far, when i saw the artwork i was absolutely sure it is Soul of Valla or Immersturm or something.
@herbalT I can't wait to play this in sisters. Or norin. It will be 5/6 or proclamation of rebirth
Martyr Proc is one of the very few Modern decks I still have put together. I quit playing competitively years ago, and I pulled apart most of my decks to build EDH decks. But I've still got Martyr together (at least mostly), and this card seems pretty great for it. It's the card Immortal Servitude wanted to be.

We now know four of the five 'other' mythics (the other 10 will be the souls and the five normal walkers), Garruk, Soul of New Phyrexia, the Chain Veil and the new sliver. Any guesses as to the fifth?

I'm hoping the red one costs 1R, cause, you know:
T1: Foundry Street Denizen
T2: Burning-Tree Emissary, into given card
seems like a painful start. At least, BTE gets some more months with new friends.

Slivers again? Are they real Slivers?
This is definitely shaping up to be an exciting core set, either way.
