Hmmm, the inclusion of Mass Calcify most likely means no Day of Judgment or any other 4 cmc white wrath spells. Either the next block is gonna have a new 4 CMC wrath or it won't depending on how R&D decided to build the block.
Odds are Khans will have the next Day of Judgement. We probably aren't seeing it in m15 to prevent control decks from having access to 8 four mana wrath spells.
WoTC said awhile back that 4cmc unconditional sweepers have gone the way of 2cmc unconditional counterspells and 3cmc unconditional LD.
I wouldn't expect to see one anytime soon, if ever again.

Decks: Standard - Rally, Modern - Kikichord, Legacy - Elves
Commmander - Eight-and-a-Half Tails; Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker; Prime Speaker Zegana; Alesha, Who Smiles at Death; Daxos the Returned; Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest; Patron of the Moonfolk; Animar, Soul of Elements

Source?
Because that would pretty much be the end of real control decks and make a lot of midrange strategies uncontrollable in Standard.
M15 In Garruk's Wake = Black 9CMC, one sided and hit Planeswalkers as well
JOU Extinguish All Hope = Black 6CMC, conditional nonenchantement
Theros Hythonia the Cruel = Black 6CMC + 8 activate, conditional non-Gorgon
Theros Anger of the Gods - Red 3CMC, conditional 3 toughness or less.

Source? That sounds too stupid to be true. Without low-cost sweepers, there will be nothing to keep aggro decks in check....on second thought, this is Wizards we're talking about, so I believe it.
So wait, these clash packs have an alternate art foil? I remember that now... please be Nykthos and Prophet.

Well it couldn't have been that far back, I mean, Supreme Verdict isn't even two years old...
And if it's true that's pretty sad. I don't even play control decks much, but if WOTC thinks the game can't handle CMC-4 sweepers in the same way it couldn't handle Counterspell, that's pretty unobservant.
Also, really hoping for artifact subtheme here. I've been trying to get my Trading Post standard deck off the ground for like a year now. Darksteel Citadel would be amazing.

Very happy to see a reprint of Hornet Queen. Maybe it'll make green ramp more competitive in standard and modern, which are currently dominated by 1-for-1 answers. I'd have to say Darksteel Citadel is by far the most surprising though, especially after so adamantly avoiding enchantment lands in Theros block.
Potential themes M15 seems to be hinting at for Khans:
-Dragons
-Monocolor Matters
-Tokens
-Walls
-Artifact Subtheme
It's almost enough to make you wonder if Fortify is making a return...
Darksteel Citadel and Shrapnel Blast make me wonder if this is an early version of the lists that they just used to test the new decklist format. Those seem way too powerful for the same core set.
That's just silly. Darksteel Citadel and Shrapnel Blast by themselves are a cute throwback to an overpowered deck of the past. It's kind of like duel decks where you get a little taste of something that used to be overpowered, but is perfectly fair in its current build. I mean really, one artifact land isn't enough to make Shrapnel Blast playable at all. It would make me smile to get both in limited if I can get my hands on enough other playable artifacts to justify running either, though. I mean 5 damage for 2 is great, but not if you have to play a bunch of junk just to get it.
Artifacts were also all but absent from Theros block, it'd be nice if there were a little higher than average number of artifacts in M15. A minor artifact theme, if you will.
They're not bad artifacts, but 3+ mana artifacts aren't what Shrapnel Blast needs. They also don't make Darksteel Citadel useful and you can't even play them in the same deck since most of them are colored anyway. I was also disappointed to find zero decklists for Colossus. It's a pet card and I was really hyped up when Darksteel was played in Tooth decks and Blightsteel made a splash in vintage. I was hoping for something like a Nykthos based list or something since it needs practically infinite mana to do its thing.

Going to repeat this until I'm blue in the face, but there has never been a standard environment that did not have a legal 4 mana wrath effect.
We have had the situation (twice actually) where the core set didn't have it and the wrath was in the fall set, and people made a big to-do about it, complaining that WoTC was screwing control etcetc.

There was a small period of time between M10 and Zendikar where Wrath rotated but Day of Judgment hadn't been printed yet. (The "super-standard" with two core sets legal didn't start happening until M11, IIRC.)

Wall subtheme makes me think that the next block is all about sieges. Being as how its a Mongolian based set and there is a very large wall to block them from invading.

To be fair, Wizards likes to break their own precedents. Birds of Paradise was basically in Standard from Alpha to Return to Ravnica, but we haven't seen it since M12.

I've seen these artifacts used extensively in constructed play theros had a bunch of great ones
The five Gods' weapons were played as maybe 2-ofs. The rest have seen almost no competetive play in standard, and certainly not to the extent that you could call it a minor artifact theme or consider running it with Shrapnel Blast.
I think we should be ok without a 4 mana wrath if it happens. I mean block has only had one in Time Spiral, Return to Ravnica, and Zendikar blocks, but it's not always dominated by aggro, is it? (ignoring the fact that it's a terrible format, pretty much always since the card pool is tiny) The loss of Counterspell/Mana Leak was the death of control, too. As it turned out, Cancel appeared in format dominating decklists beside the likes of Jace the Mindsculptor. A 5 mana wrath might be ok. It just might pave the way for control to get a little bump in other areas.

The tokens might be there more for M15 than for Khans - I guess cards which create more than one creature are needed for convoke to be useful.
Dragons have been a theme in the last serveral core sets. Monocolor synchs up with devotion. Tokens synch up with convoke. (look at Rav one and Future Sight) Walls synch up with defender from Rav 2 until it rotates. The 2 artifact cards could just be modern plants. Afterall, they are in a popular modern deck. The new themes might actually be something we're missing.
Think people are making far too much of darksteel citadel and shrapnel blast. I vaguely recall a standard season where phylactery lich existed and was unplayable. And M14 has darksteel forge which sees no standard play whatsoever and wasn't some hint about the nature of theros block.

Now if only the Lich was getting a reprint with Darksteel Citadel..that would be fun.

I feel like that combo in mono black devotion would just be really mean... (EDIT: Obviously, there'd have to be at least one or two other artifacts that MBD would want, for the sake of consistency, to be a viable thing to consider, but still :P)

In that case, I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean what he thinks it means. There is a reason 'most often' is included here. I'm pretty certain that it means that we won't see more than one of them in a competitive standard environment. So we won't see Supreme Verdict at the same time as Wrath of God. Or Wrath of God at the same time as Damnation. Or Damnation at the same time as Day of Judgment. Of the four of the following, we'd only see one at a time: Day of Judgment, Supreme Verdict, Damnation, and Wrath of God. But they can probably put in much more conditional ones alongside one of those, like Anger of the Gods, Mutilate, Golgari Charm, etc. and a bunch of ones over 4 CMC like Final Judgment, Merciless Eviction, Plague Wind, Fated Retribution, etc.
