Which is good, because I am boycotting any card with "designed by SOME RANDOM GUY" on it. Disgusting.
Those "designed by" flavor texts are truly a disaster. They totally ruin the flavor, which is ironic since it's the main purpose of the, well, flavor texts, are poor taste, and I honestly wonder why Wizards decided to spit in the face of the Vorthos-inclined players.

Disaster seems like more than a dramatic overstatement. It's odd, sure, but it's not like it makes me hate a card I would have otherwise liked.
The article notes that there is a list of other guest designers and make a list to it, but as far as I can tell, that link just send me back to the main MtG page. Does anyone have a link or any other info on who those other guest designers are?
This whole "Designed by Random Person from Famous Brand X!!!" just smacks of a managerial decision by someone from Hasbro who doesn't play the game but TOTALLY KNOWS HOW TO SELL IT CAUSE BUSINESSBUSINESSMONEYMONEY. Or by your dad who tries way too hard to be cool and just makes an idiot of himself.
I think what is so off-putting about these designed-by cards, the new card-frame, and the site redesign, plus the fact a feature-film was just announced, just feel too imbalanced to me when it comes to Wizards balancing being a money-making enterprise versus a game-making enterprise, and the scales have tipped too much towards the money-making with this set of decisions. Like they're trying too hard to rebrand in certain ways to expand their player base through marketing gimmicks than actual substantive changes that correspond to actual gameplay.
You know who the coolest card designers are? The guys who do it professionally and create awesome collectible card games, not people who make web comics, etc.
Will this make me quite the game or not buy product or anything? Nah. But I just feel more pandered to poorly than I usually do, and it puts my back up because I hate out-of-touch marketing.

DITS!
Mr. Jiggles comin' to town and gonna take you on down to the hootenanny, so y'all best be lookin' out for a good, jiggly time.
Just want to say I like the "designed by" idea. Many cards have no flavor text, so I'm not sure why having this bothers people so much.
I think it's a great idea to have people from other positions in other companies work with R&D to create new cards, and so far I'm impressed by the flavor that the designers have brought to each one I've seen. I think it's correct to document right on the card that this is one of those special cases.
Core Sets are a perfect time to not spend too much on MtG
Interesting thought.
Did you know M14 had a higher expected value than Theros & Born of the God when the next set was released?
Meaning, M14 had a higher EV than Theros when BotG was released and a higher EV than BotG when JOU released.
Very high cost, although comparable with Staff on Nin. Except Staff doesn't need a creature in play to work. I'm going to say it's not good enough to be playable.

I don't know about "Some Random Guy", This is Penny Arcade, who regular talk about magic and tcg games, host PAX which as a pretty big card game component and is a significant event for Magic and Duel of the Planeswalkers spoilers and announcement. There's a connection.
Also is this a worse card then any of the existing Magic vanity cards?
Yeah it's a weird novelty top down rare.... we've had worse
The only reason anyone is angry about this is because it's a "designed by..." card. It's really no different then the many, many novelty rares in every magic set.
but they have been slightly different, Genesis Hydra, the Rogue has hexproof (not normal for black) and this amulet gives a bonus and vigilance, along with the draw, the change possession is flavor because they steal the "watch"
I like the "design by" credit. I dont think it is any different from the artist credit. I just dont like that they put it as pseudo flavor text instead of somewhere else on the card.

MaRo's stated that they tried to put designer credit elsewhere, but it just didn't work.
Everytime you pull one of these, you should tear it up and tweet the photo to Penny Arcade. These Designed By cards are so stupid. Like I even cared who designed the other thousands of Magic cards that have been printed before this one.

Yes, show the world how the Magic community is populated by overreacting babies.

My thoughts exactly. I guess I'm not surprised by how childish people are about a card game though.

Old enough to know better, much too young to care.
Vigilance on the amulet probably represents the creature wearing the amulet is more aware of not getting the amulet robbed from it.
Credit to Heroes of the Plane Studios for the Avatar & Miraculous Recovery for the Banner.

And M13 was worth more than RtR when Gatecrash released.
I don't know if Canadian Guy was talking about value, specifically. But if he was, it seems he was unaware of the recent trends in core set value.

I did and do not care
I didn't like drafting M14 so I didn't buy any of it. I got Chandra and a Garruk from my one prerelease so I was pleased.
