Just found this on twitter. No idea where it came from, don't know anything about it. Just passing it along.
This is the image on the funko legacy garruk figure's box
And probably his PW art in M15...
Just what I was about to say. That could be the art for M15.
I really don't think that the movie's main theme is Garruk and his curse. But they could have just used that picture for marketing.
Yeah, I agree. I think it's just purely promotional, putting the movie out there. It is interesting that it's the first piece of "official" promotional material with the 20th century fox logo sat the bottom.
I really think they should set the movie on Innistrad. It has a setting familiar to most audiences (horror elements), the struggle for survival, and the Garrukk vs Liliana dispute.
You could make the movie with only 3 planeswalkers: Garrukk, Liliana and Sorin. Talk about the creation of the plane, and make Garrukk the main character.
Appeals to general audiences, gets cash, respectable movie.

It would become similar with the D&D movie ( lot of lore that only fans can get and even them will not allways get it)(An remenber...Its Holywood baby!!...)
The best choice would be show a new(or old ) plane (Without telling us about what are planes at all) start a story with a new character show some spellcasting and magical stuff (summonings n ETC...) at the End show the character getting nnearly killed AND show his spark igniting and post credts show hin in a diferent plane and a know planeswalker starting a talk with it and end there ...
It would be way better...
PS: the know walker would be Jace... ( cause you know he is Jace...)
Highly unlikely. They will likely not take chances nor make the film for fans. They will attempt to bring in a broad audience, thus fulfilling the old adage "When you make a movie for everyone, you make a movie for no one."
The simple fact that I'm pretty sure that's the Fox Searchlight insignia in the bottom right corner, very clearly confirms that it's a movie poster. That being said, it looks like they just grabbed some M15 art and threw it on a poster.
The problem WoTC is facing is that the fan base is growing and, this is purely speculative, most of the new players don't have a firm foundation in the history of the game. I could imagine most new players being annoyed or pissed that their favorite character like one of the Lorwyn 5 or Elspeth is not in the movie. So the initial dilemma is: Which part of the fan base do they try to appeal to?
I would also be willing to bet that the main purpose of this movie is to further increase the influx of new players and boost card sales. So which group is the easier one to piss off? Unfortunately, it's probably the older, veteran group that will get the shaft, because they enjoy the game enough to continue playing regardless of how the movie plays out.
Dammit, the poster was of Garruk the Slayer. Movies about the Lowryn 5.
I really wanted a movie about the Weatherlight Saga. This displeases me.

Despite Magic having some good solid stories to tell concerning what happened pre-mending, expecting a pre-mending plot for a movie is unrealistic. More than half of all magic players started playing after the mending and neowalkers are just what a planeswalker is to most. Plus any gaming franchise movie should be made with an eye to recruit new players (this is advertising) and a movie about oldwalkers or really anything that happened in that epoch, would serve to create a disconnect for people who watched the movie then decided to check out the game.
There are so many possible approaches to this that it could go really great, or really wrong. I always thought that a NeverEnding Story type of story would make for a good MTG movie.
Has no one noticed the other 3 movies that should have been made after Eragon, weren't? There was an obvious lack of appeal/success, whether it be because of the screenwriters/scripters, actors or the directors.
In all likeliness, an MTG movie being successful has the best shot if it follows one of the books, and where the storyline, plot and characters can be easily followed and can appeal to the general public. Look to the early MTG novels that all MTG players loved to read; those would be the likeliest candidates for a movie.
I think it's best to accept early on that they're going to change things. Lots of things. They're going to retcon a lot and do their best to change the story to appeal to a broader audience. This is going to be a Hasbro-licensed summer blockbuster. They're under no obligation to remain faithful to the source material. They're only obligated to make lots of money for the studio and the movie's producers.

Ever since the creation of the "neo-walkers" wizards has said that one of their purposes was to be the brand face of the game, so to use a story in which they do not appear would be counter intuitive. Nothing is set about the story at this point since a MTGS member acknowledged a couple weeks ago that he was only recent passed up as a writer for the film, so this new team has only begun to sketch out the story. Between corporate notes and re-writes we will not have a great idea about who the protaganist is for some time. Posters like the one in this thread are just mocked up from existing art to start getting the brand image in front of people.
The best chance this movie has is the Brother's War simply because it would need the fewest exposition to explain things. "Long ago an ancient civilization called the thran lived in splendor with powerful machines. Now, we artifacers try and find these machines and build our own based on their ancient constructs." Boom - flash to young Mishra and Urza and the whole lore unfolds for them as a proper protagonist should (see Luke Skywalker learning about what Jedi are, physically seeing aliens, etc.). We even get to introduce the Phyrexians and planeswalkers with literally no stoppage in the movie for explanation, because the first shows up and Urza becoming one can show the audience what it means. It is a well paced story that would work the best as a movie.
If they go with a story with Jace for instance, we have to give some background on what he is being a planeswalker and what is going on. I feel starting with the brothers war would most assuredly give the movie its best chance.

The way that the movie could/ sould be made is "not" to show any planewalker at all until the end. One lets say scene "Zendikar", explain what magic is, what mana is, and how you use it. From there you can build a character up make sure you get everyone to like him or her (no whiney, useless person). Then out comes the Eldrazi destroying everything. Later the protagonist loses a mentor, gets mad and tries to avenge them. Soon after comes the Near-Death Experience and the protagonist becomes a planeswalker or is saved by on. With that they leave heading to get help or become stronger (Learn from the best).
So that poster is indeed an early teaser for the Magic the Gathering movie.
Except it's the Garruk art for M15, so yeah...
I guess you didn't read my post, but it is a tad bit lengthy. If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the poster you can see the Fox Searchlight emblem.

As an older player, I cannot accept the implication that failing to have the movie be about the Brothers' War or Weatherlight or whatever other pre-Mending story constitutes giving us "the shaft". The story now is about the neowalkers. If you don't like it I sympathise (I don't necessarily agree but I can see why people might not like it) but making the movie about the actual story they're telling now instead of one they told over a decade ago is not a personal insult to you and it's certainly not a general insult to the group that we both belong to.

Actually they screwed up the ending, he never left with the elves so tey couldn't make he others without redoing the first movie. Which was literally nothing like the book. Except for names and a few events, but 97% was crap.

The modern era of superhero movies has shown that audiences are more than capable of dealing with multiple worlds in a single movie.
