Drawing 5 cards should be costed high. The best spell to draw that much in Modern would be Allied Strategies, which works similar to Soul of Ravnica. Getting a 6/6 flying and being able to draw cards again and again, even once from the graveyard just seems really strong.
Let's look at this another way. Turn seven, provided its not destroyed that means that they can leave counter mana up and if they don't need it draw x cards at the end of opponents turn. Even a single other colored permanent equals two cards per turn, which is usually enough to win a control deck the game. Making it five mana would make that even easier. Now does this make the card good? Perhaps not, but it certainly is a decent finisher for control once Aetherling rotates.
There's so many wrong things in this post i don't know where to start.
You're comparing gold cards which are subpar on stats and ability and are all legendary to a 6/6 flying for 4UU, even keiga is subpar on stats. This is titans stats and like titans they add value even if they're dealt with (graveyard ability) which is already really strong.
REPEATEABLE draw in a world of nykthos should prove strong enough for standard even if it only draws 2 cards out of it.
Those souls are like a fixed version of the titans, i'm just sad they choosed reach over trample for the green one (even if nylea should help) and i'm eager to see the last 3 of those.
Them printing Soul of Ravnica may be a pretty strong sign that the next block is going to be "multicolored matters". Some say that Khans may be wedges-based, and if so and if three-colored decks will dominate standard, then this may absolutely see constructed play. I mean, 5UU: Draw three cards is a pretty strong ability actually, being on a stick. Wizards always design some amount of cards "ahead of time". The obvious example is Nightveil Specter, which didn't actually fit standard until Theros block with "mana symbols matter" was out. Similar thing may be the case here.
So we all complained that they stopped giving Mythic promos, and what do they do? Make intro deck level rares into mythics and give them as promos. I take it all back wizards, keep promoing crappy rares and leave the mythic slots for something more mythic. How is that Sould of Zendikar a mythic? A fatty that can make tokens. It is on par with about a dozen green rares in standard now. Power level aside, how is this a special 'Mythic' when it feels so much like Hydra Broodmaster of Deathbridge Goliath.
And yes they are good in limited, so are more large rare/mythic creatures. Previous years have given us Scavenging ooze and Grave Titan. This is a major letdown, ever since they started giving out intro rares at the prerelease, foil promo variety has dropped.

Wouldn't read too much into that, the ability is more likely to just be a flavor callback to Ravnica, which spawned two multicolor blocks. Otherwise if you looked at just Soul of Zendikar, you could conclude that Tarkir block would be about "vanilla creatures matter" or "creature tokens matter".

Soul of Ravnica is a single Mythic Rare in a Core-Set, and you are assuming it defines the next block's theme? Are you serious? Nightveil Spectre wasn't just a single card, it was part of a cycle of hybrid cards. These triple hybrid cards were also Rare, not Mythic. The Soul cycle is Mythic Rare with various abilities, just like the Titans in past Core sets.
"If your theme is not at common, it is not a theme". Look at the lower rarity cards and see what is going on.
There are mono-color lords at Uncommon
Convoke is a mechanic in the set
White, Blue and Red have Common/Uncommon token makers
White and Blue have Uncommons that synergize with going wide
This is just looking at the cards spoiled so far. To me it seems tokens are a more likely mechanical connection. This is also supported by the high number of tokens in JOU. The existence of Convoke in particular is to me a strong suggestion of a tokens theme.
As for the power level of the Souls: I think Development is just wary of the power of the Titans and wanted to keep the Soul cycle from being such utter bombs in Limited that the Titans were . The fact that they can be used from the graveyard is quite potent.
I feel like the only one who is kinda glad that they aren't pushing creature power here. A non-tapping creature ability on an already formidable (albeit overcosted) body with evasion, I think it's a good sign that WOTC decided not to push the ability cost very far.
My hope is that maybe we will see a swing in favor of spell power. (ala Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile, Ponder, Chord of Calling). Baseless, but I can hope.

Old enough to know better, much too young to care.
With that correction of the activation cost it's gone from being pretty interesting to pretty meh. Whether it'll be playable in draft is highly dependent on the draft environment at large. If it's as fast as triple gatecrash it'll be unplayable, if it's as slow as m14 it'll be a bomb, my guess is somewhere in the middle and I can see myself picking good commons over this.
I don't think it synergizes very well with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx since the avatar rewards going multicolour and the land rewards sticking to one colour. The one thing they have in common is benefitting from keeping many permanents in play; which is bad in a typical Ux control deck (since you probably want some wraths). It's a powerfull ability, but the cost means it's not at all pushed.
It's funny to me that anybody would defend this card. Limited aside, this card isn't worth the ink used to print it. Even a new to the game timmy casual think's the ability is overcosted. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that in a game of 13,000+ cards, there are better 6 drops of this color (even big flyers that provide card advantage at the same CMC). Limited bomb, 10 cent mythic.
Soul of Ravnica is a single Mythic Rare in a Core-Set, and you are assuming it defines the next block's theme? Are you serious?
No, I am fooling around :-P
I'm not saying it "defines" next block. I'm just saying it could fit its theme and mechanics. I mean, it is a little suspicious that the core set features such a "multicolored matters" card, which core sets often don't do. But maybe you're right, and I'm simply reading too much into it. Time will tell:)
Goodness people. Something isn't either really good or really terrible. There are so many mid-points in-between. Something isn't either Chimney Imp or Boros Reckoner, and merely because something won't see play in constructed, it isn't automatically a bad card. Furthermore, comparing this card to some of the better cards in the game doesn't make it bad automatically.
It's a 6/6 flyer for 6, as established, and comparing that to a load of other better 6/6 flyers doesn't automatically make it the worst card ever printed. I'm sure people will still play it in casual and draft, if that last ability doesn't wind up having some miraculous use in a really unconventional deck.
But you're right. At 6 mana, it's not likely to be used in constructed. Very few cards are used at that cost.
Does that mean it's awful? Does that mean it isn't "worth the ink used to print it"? No. None of the above. It still has some use to some people.
The funniest thing I keep seeing is the people who say THeros wasn't that good but Khans is awesome. News flash all we have is character art. People said the same thing about Ravnica, oh it wasn't as good as the first one oh there was no bob. I think the only time no one whined was after innistrad block. I will agree from what we know the soul mythics will be a complete miss. Preselling at 5 dollars is nuts for those. THey may be playable in the fall with creatures/lands/artifacts that dull the ability costs. I the garbage mythics they are hard enough to come by to begin with.

Maybe the past 5 years or so should be regarded as a "creature efficiency bubble". The whole power-creep thing finally reverted back to older standards. You look at what you used to get for 6 mana in older cards and this is still well ahead of that. Perhaps this is a sign WotC is scaling back the power creep. There's no way to do that without making creatures that appear inferior to the immediately previous designs.

Let's think rationally here.
I think the rarity needs to be taken into consideration. A 6/6 flyer for 6 may be okay at rare, heck even UC, but at mythic the card needs a better activated ability other than paying 7 for what most times will be drawing 1-3 cards.
These things were already bad, but this is just a joke. You can spend 6 mana to cast it, I spend 2 to Doom Blade it, then you spend 7 to draw two cards. Congrats, you spent 13 mana to get a 3 for 1. As the Doom Blader, I am okay with this exchange. Heaven forbid I actually just Banishing Light it. Or you cast it, activate the 7 mana ability to draw a card, and I Unsummon it with the ability on the stack.
The Standard power level will have to go down so much for this to see play, it's absurd.

Nightveil Specter was always a strong card, and it would occasionally see play in control sideboards for the mirror match. The reason that it wasn't everywhere before Theros is that Restoration Angel, and Lingering Souls were everywhere, and the decks that didn't have one of those usually had Olivia Voldaren, Thundermaw Hellkite, Falkenrath Aristocrat, and/or a boatload of removal. The format was just hostile as all get out. Devotion strats definitely were the driver for people trying it again though.

The sky is not falling. This isn't the first time the power level of standard was reigned in drastically. I would assume that Khans is going to be stronger than Theros, but it might not bounce back until the next block (I hope not, post Theros standard has been awful).

I would LOVE a power swing back towards spells. Can't say as I believe it will happen in a significant way, but the balance has been off pretty badly since scars rotated out though, and I would love to see it at least be restored.

“A man's at odds to know his mind cause his mind is aught he has to know it with. He can know his heart, but he dont want to. Rightly so. Best not to look in there. It aint the heart of a creature that is bound in the way that God has set for it. You can find meanness in the least of creatures, but when God made man the devil was at his elbow. A creature that can do anything. Make a machine. And a machine to make the machine. And evil that can run itself a thousand years, no need to tend it.”

Same here. This is why I don't go to card shops. There's always someone yelling "THAT CARD SUCKS, THIS CARD SUCKS, YOU SUCK FOR PLAYING THAT CARD, EVERY CARD SUCKS EXCEPT FOR THE CARDS I PLAY" at the top of their lungs. It's like listening to nails on a chalkboard over a loud speaker right next to your head.
I thought the Soul was supposed to be a bid farewell to the heavily multicolored block cycling out. Now I'm thinking it might be a plug for the next set.
Or it's just a trash mythic to show the standard power level is going to drop again.
Eh, not good. Might see some play in control as it is a decent finisher and you can dump the extra mana into an uncounterable draw engine. Seeing as control will likely have a couple Banishing Lights out, might be able to draw 2 at an end step by dumping the rest of your mana. However, at that point they are on a four turn clock anyway. Definitely underwhelming for a Mythic, and I am betting that Elspeth will always see more play as a control finisher since it also does something against aggro, plays well with other cards, and doesn't cost mana. The only advantage to Soul of Ravnica is that it is a draw engine that cannot be countered in standard. I sincerely doubt that is enough though (however, control doesn't have much of a draw engine that we can see when Sphinx's rotates).
This card is fine. At worst this is a 6/6 flier for 6 that cycles itself. Very few creatures do that at any power level, let alone have evasion AND the potential to net you additional advantage.
But really, I just love the promo art.
